You've successfully reported this review. Then I found my own voice. My first book was set in Belfast. I write for the medical line of Mills and Boon, which means both the female and male character are in the medical profession or work in a medical setting.
I'd spent so much time in hospitals. While I've no formal medical qualifications, I have personal experience of this world. His sister taught burlesque dance classes. That was published in May I've just signed up on my 10th book now. You put one to bed and you're straight into thinking about the characters for the next one. While there's no formula with all romances, I think there has to be conflict between the main characters. It can't be an easy road for them or you won't get a story out of it.
I've had couples who were married who split up and got back together; I've had love at first sight and people who were enemies at first sight who make it eventually. You start off showing there's a bit of a hint of attraction; then there's a reason why they think they can't be together and you work through those difficulties. People ask me where I get my inspiration all the time. I think I never really switch off. I'm constantly thinking of different characters.
Characters come first for me. The internet helps with my research. That's the fun part of it. There's a lot of online communities and even with Twitter and Facebook, you can always have a nosy at what other people are up to.
In the Republic of Happiness. Taking it All by Sharon Kendrick. When you get that Friday feeling and you think nobody is watching Blain Cosgrove spotted this man busting a His Brother's Son by Jennifer Taylor. A Father for Christmas by Meredith Webber. The Sicilian Doctor's Proposal. Greater Than Riches by Jennifer Taylor.
When it comes to the sex scenes, that's the hardest bit. I tend to spell it out. There are some authors who like to keep the bedroom door closed, but I don't.
It's all part of building the romance. It becomes more about how the relationship progresses than what's going on. Sometimes I get teased about it from different people. I always said if I had my name on the books on the shelves I wouldn't care. I binge read in between books when I'm not writing.
It's mainly romances I read or upbeat books. The odd time I read a thriller. I love Marian Keyes and Fiona Gibson. My husband George is very supportive. He can be romantic. We got engaged after three months and we've been together 24 years. We work very much as a team. We get everything out there and discuss everything - how we feel about it or what we can do together.
