Because of the spell, Eddie is Wide Awake in Dreamland. He only has 'till he wakes up in the real world to reverse Mortimer's spell and get home. This book came out when I was a kid and I really enjoyed it then. Obviously, it was a good enough read that I could remember the title Imaginative nine-year-old Eddie is transported to Dreamland by Sandman Sandy, but what they don't yet realize is that the evil warlock Mortimer has cast a spell to taint the sand in hopes of stealing Eddie's imagination. Obviously, it was a good enough read that I could remember the title almost two decades later and still want a copy of the book.
It was moderately difficult to find-- the book is currently out of print, but there are places here and there that still have copies. Reading "Wide Awake in Dreamland" now that I'm older is a slightly different experience. Of course, re-reading any book you know what will happen in the story, so that made the book lose a little of the adventure.
Also, my perspective has changed since those younger days. I still enjoyed the story, but I had a more difficult time getting into it.
However, the story remains true to my memories and still entertains. This book is fairly fast-paced.
There is some traveling in the book, but there are enough things going on that you hardly notice the long distance Eddie and Sandy have to travel. The author also does a fantastic job of putting imaginative things into the story-- flying sharks and other beasts The events that happen in the book aren't random, but the situations are resolved in rather unique ways which keep the book "hopping".
I really recommend this book to younger children. It's was and still is a great read. View all 3 comments.

This album showed me that she was untouchable when it came to vocals. It was this album that caused me to go back and get her entire collection over the next few years.
I was out at the record store a month back and came across this album and had to have it on vinyl. I now have 4 of her albums on vinyl including this one. There are still a few more of hers that I have to get and hopefully will be able to find them.
It is pure energy and a great hard rock song. It is perfect for the opening track and shows off how much a rocker she is. It was a pretty ballad and really showcases her voice. I love the variety she puts on her albums as it give you a range of styles and sounds that there is always something you will like. The fourth song was another single actually all of the first four songs were singles.
It is another great rocker. She still connects with the song vocally and is a nice piece. It is a great and moving song. Pat really shines on these songs that she is so emotionally connected to. It is an upbeat rock song which ends the album the same way it started. It is the highlight of the side b and it made me flip over the album and start again. I had a blast reexamining the album as it had been awhile since I had listened to it from beginning to end. It is one of my favorites by her because it is My First. And you always remember your first and always hold a special place in you heart as well.
