As llong as I've known her, she has been a visceral erotic philosophizer, the kind of person I'd want to put in a time machine just to go back and spar with De Sade. I think she'd lay him out flat.
Christina is fearless about difficult topics-- and furthermore, taking a taboo, like "shame" or humiliation and putting them in a wicked sexual context where there are NO banal lessons to be doled out. This is not your after-school-special erotica. I published her work repeatedly in "Best American Erotica," and her first novella "Bending," reprinted here. No library descriptions found. Become a LibraryThing Author. At times, you get the impression that she just threw together an anthology of weird shit that gets her off. One thing that really did impress me about these stories there is at least almost always clear consent given from everyone involved. I also appreciated the fact that Christina took the time to list a multitude resources at the end of the novel for people interested in kink.
Bending gets at least two stars for originality. Reading this novel was definitely an experience, albeit a repugnant, insane and physically uncomfortable one. Dec 22, Amanda rated it liked it.
Thought provoking but definitely not for the faint of heart. Apr 18, Tommy Carlson rated it really liked it. Okay, so I just finished Greta Christina 's new book of edgy erotica, Bending. So how is it? Well, pretty damn good, frankly, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you should read it. She's very clear in the introduction that the following stories might rub some folks the wrong way. She makes a very good point that people, oddly, expect more veracity from erotica than they do from other forms of entertainment. These stories are dirty.
They're not nice fluffy erotica and some of the Fap fap fap They're not nice fluffy erotica and some of the things in them would be a bad thing in the real world. But this isn't the real world, it's fantasy. These stories are the things that get Greta off. They might get you off, too.
You never can tell Anyway, I fully agree. After all, it's not that I actually want to be manacled and ravaged by a chubbly black female TSA agent. But there's no harm in fantasizing about it. So, given that caveat, this is quality stuff.
Greta's a superb writer in general and she's no less skilled in the realm of erotica. The stories are a good balance of set-up and pay-off. It's not just balls-to-the-wall sexual descriptions, but nor does it shy from those.
For me, the build up and situation setting is just as important as the sex, so I was very happy. Many stories trail off, leaving the ultimate conclusion to your imagination. If I were going to pick nits, I would have liked them to trail off a little later then many did, though. I found most of the stories to be blazing hot. A few didn't really do it for me, but that's to be expected.
And I didn't dislike those few, they just didn't really hit the spot for me as well as the others did. The unicorn and rainbow story, for example, was clever and a nice break, but didn't get me turned on. The Catholic one did. The other religious ones didn't. The final novella is great, going on longer than anticipated, but in a logical way.
If I'm going to make an actual complaint it's that most of the stories are from a female bottom perspective. I could have done with a few more stories of men being treated roughly. May 01, Thaliath rated it really liked it. I don't think this kind of book is for everyone. However, imo, "Bending" was interesting and insightful. Of course, there isn't much romance here "Dear Marla" was sweet and really well written, though , but I found the whole experience fascinating, particularly the psychological aspect of it.

Greta Christina was able to portray each story esp. Sarah Iozzio rated it really liked it May 08, After reading the introduction, I wanted to stand up and cheer. The unicorn and rainbow story, for example, was clever and a nice break, but didn't get me turned on. Iskra Ryder rated it it was amazing Mar 06,
This read like having a peek into someone else's escapist sexual fantasies bucketlist or running the whole gamut of a person's kinks. So obviously, it's very personal stuff kudos to the author for daring I don't think this kind of book is for everyone. So obviously, it's very personal stuff kudos to the author for daring to open at least a part of her secret garden, I don't think it's easy to do , full of unreasonable and insane ideas.
Then again, not so crazy: And even if some people do, so what, as long as it's done right. Also, the author gives a fair and well-argued warning at the beginning for the thick-minded. Inevitably, some stories will seem weird the unicorn one: Therefore, and also as a matter of respect, I don't think the book can be judged solely on that. Getting titillated is not even really the point here. It's more about reading "erotica" in the strictest sense of the word, as in, part of the whole array of human sexuality that can be more or less rationally explained, if at all.
That is how I know the writing was good, too. Another thing I found rather incredible was how the author managed to create a different atmosphere and feel to the different scenes depicted throughout the book: Overall, I thought this was an original book. Sep 25, Ariel Krieger rated it liked it. I gave this bad boy only 3 stars not because it's mediocre, it's just because of a general sense of repetitiveness in the stories A fare amount of the stories are quite brilliant, extremely erotic with heavy doses of twisted and fascinating psychology.
The author chose to categorise the book's content into the following main themes: Except for the one that is. These are not sweet, gentle, happy stories about unicorns fucking rainbows.
Except for the one about the unicorn fucking the rainbow. The categorisation adds a very nice touch to the reading experience, really concentrating on a single theme and then moving on when you almost had enough. But herein lays the problem, the author could have skimmed the number of stories by half and it would have gotten a five star rating Apr 17, Alysa H.
