The quality of books vary wildly, but I would wholeheartedly recommend: If you can get through it, the other two are quite enjoyable. Finally, Shrapnel and 25 Years of Art and Fiction are two short story compilations that I found were quite excellent, especially the latter since it featured a lot of the writes from the original fiction line returning to write new stuff for their old characters. InfernalGoose , Apr 6, Oh yeah, and if you want to follow the meta-plot of the setting, then all of Michael Stackpole's novels are required reading.

I've heard a lot of praise for the Grey Death Legion trilogy so I will probably read that to kill time before the 24th. Imperium45 , Apr 9, Read Blood of Heroes yesterday.

It feels like there should be at least one book between Price of Glory and Blood of Heroes, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Deaghaidh , Apr 11, Nichino , Apr 11, Feb 28, Messages: I think I started reading around time Bred for War and Close Quarters were published; at least those were the first two I remember reading and still a couple of my favorites, looking back now.

I later went back and read nearly all of the stuff that came out before that and kept up as new novels were published. For an idea of what it's like to be a small unit merc, I'll agree with most of the things people listed above.

What (battletech) book / serie to start reading?

Thurston's books give a good feel for the Clans and Jade Falcons specifically and Stackpole's novels contain most of the "big" events. BlackCatF , Apr 12, Deaghaidh , Apr 12, May 24, Messages: Mercenary crew around the same time as our game is set. If your looking for the best books i would highly recommend anything by Pardoe. Some of my favorite battle tech related books were by him.

WhiteChapel , Apr 12, Deaghaidh , Apr 13, No Outworlds novels were written, just short stories and scenarios: Mendrugo , Apr 14, Read Want of a Nail and Pitcairn Star, both quality short stories. Lots of Mech action in this one, some good characters. The most annoying thing is the Scottish weapons master whose speech is written almost phonetically.

Their trophy is the dog skull from the town. The Game involves two armoured teams of five attempting to score by placing a dog skull on the opposing team's goalpost. However, not all in this time live so sparsely.
