At Book Cave , we see authors using a variety of single and double quotation marks in text, especially in dialogue. When should a double quotation mark be used versus a single quotation mark? Yes, it's as simple as that. We'll explain why there is so much variation in a minute, so stay tuned. Note that the punctuation goes inside the quotation mark, not outside. However, some British publishers follow the American rules of using double quotes.
Conversely, British formatting uses double quotes inside of single quotes. It was very "clean" in terms of comma's and grammar errors. Every once-in-a-while a weird word might show up, but a sentence later Andrew is there front and center, throwing in his humor So it evened out. Get your hands on this damn book if you can. If you like "The Notebook" you will definitely like this. Some of the fighting, which is pretty heavy at times, reminded me of them. Andrew has a sense of humor and is always trying to look at the positive in all things.
He adds comedy to an otherwise shitty situation. And cue Shania Twain Jan 26, Jenny rated it it was ok Shelves: ARC provided by the author in exchange for my honest review. While I will not divulge into too much detail till closer to release date I had high hopes for this story. I'm a stickler for detail also, so there were some things in the story that also had me wincing a few times: Women wear perfume, men wear cologne - but it was the other way around in the story.
As the story was set in Manhattan and Brooklyn - as a native, so much was off and had me a tad bit disappointed in the research. The word "thrice" - not sure anyone uses that word anymore I mean, if you do, more power to you. It just threw me off somewhat. The sexual interactions between our h and H - cringeworthy.
A whole lot of talking The H and h - there was nothing about them that appealed to me. They were both childish in certain aspects of their lives past and present. As I said, I would love to give you a broader picture, but I can't without giving away most of the book. With that being said, the concept of the story was what lured me in. I just wished that the rest of the story kept me.
Ashley Brown, fresh out of college, is looking for a job, not love. But those plans change when she meets gorgeous Andrew Smith. Their connection is instant and the relationship grows quickly.
With her still not finding a career and Andrew spending all his time trying to get his business up and running, Ashley sinks into depression and asks for a divorce. Fast forward 7 years, Ashley has built a life for herself as an editor. Andr Ashley Brown, fresh out of college, is looking for a job, not love.
Andrew, now a successful CEO, has written his autobiography. Ashley is assigned as his editor. But Andrew has his own issues from the past. Can they really have a second chance at love? Is he still the one? What did I like about it? The chemistry between the two characters was intense. I like stories where the characters find a second chance for love.
It dealt with two very real human issues- depression and anxiety. What kept me from loving it? It worked in some instances but often distracted from the story. I expected juvenile behavior when they were 23 but felt like they never really grew up in dealing with their own issues. And Ashley seemed to put all the blame on Andrew. I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I appreciate the opportunity to read it. Jan 26, Deniz rated it it was ok Shelves: When I read the blurb of this, I loved the sound of it. It's set in NYC - one of my favorite cities in the world. It sounds like there won't be any instas going on I knew that this could go one of two ways- I love it or loath it. Well, I was wrong. First I neither love it nor loath it.
I am not wowed for sure, but I also didn't hate it. Look it's not terrible or infuriating, but it just never gelled with me. First of all, the romance? I could have lived with that. But I didn't buy it.
They had no chemistry. Even if Clinton kept stressing that they did- well I didn't feel it. Then the smut- was beyond awkward. It was odd and felt super wooden. Not enticing or sexy or hot. It felt rehearsed and planned. As in Clinton added some odd bits to make the couple more real or unique BUT it felt like it was planned and more importantly it just felt off and weird.
They supposedly so in love. But I really didn't get any of that. I mean they professed to strong feelings, I just never I felt nor did I actually believe it. Their infatuation felt superficial. Their big fight and the break up? And the supposed hurt of Ashley? I felt it more in the blurb than reading the entire novel.
The character building felt labored. I mean, Clinton gave both MCs quirks and bad sides Like their weaknesses were planned. Like Andrew's problem at the end? I felt like smacking him. It felt totally put on- so that we can have a last big drama My biggest issue with the character building was, that Ashley and Andrew behaved rather juvenile most of the time. Their actions and reactions seemed to be rather arbitrary at times. But see we talking adults, first they in their early twenties then in their early thirties..
The plot was okay. But actually not bad. While Clinton does very flowery descriptions- they quite nice actually- the dialogues were totally wooden. Somehow they felt staged rather than a conversation. Then going back to the whole flowery descriptions- they didn't work in the context most of the time. I am not sure why.
As I said, Clinton writes quite nicely. But somehow it just didn't work for me. I missed depth and soul- and saying that I have to stress, that I feel like Clinton did try and portray that. BUT I could simply not connect to it. It surprises me, because I usually love beautiful descriptions- but here it felt put on.
In fact I was wondering if she actually has been there. It seems my recurring problem with this novel. I simply didn't feel it, I just couldn't connect. So while I wish it would have worked better for me. I think the concept was interesting, sadly not for me though. Feb 23, Julie rated it it was ok Shelves: This is one of those times when I'm going to end up looking like the ass-end of an elephant for what I think about a book.
Well, bring that big ass on because I've got some thoughts! Oh, and unlike the majority of my other reviews, there will probably be a spoiler in here I'll try to keep it minimal but stop reading if you want some surprises within those pages.
I just hate having to write a review like this. Let's just get down to it I didn't really get the back and forth or the damn hot and cold feelings that would switch without notice. Ashley was just wishy-washy. She didn't want him, then she wanted him, then she didn't and then she decided she would force him to love her. That whole thing seemed more like a plot from a heartbroken teenager than a woman in her 30's. There was this one part where Andrew actually apologized. He said he was sorry and she says that she's been waiting to hear that from him and then in the same damn breath, she chastises him for apologizing.
That doesn't make any damn sense. You can't pet the dog for bringing you the newspaper and then literally take the paper out of his mouth and swat his ass because he didn't leave the paper outside. It was confusing and I'm not totally for sure what the author was trying to say at this point Hell, I figured that out the first time she flip-flopped about crap with Andrew.
It felt almost as if the book started with one character and then halfway through, someone decided to change some important traits about Ashley but instead of changing them, they just added them in or something. It was like two separate characters were being mashed together. This book is full of some pretty serious parts. A lot of these moments were glossed over while other inconsequential things were basically given a freaking parade and the center stage.
I wish that more time had been spent on the bad stuff. If that had happened, I might have understood Ashley's character more but then again, maybe I wouldn't have but those serious moments definitely deserved a little more page time than they received. This ended up not being a book for me, in case you didn't notice. I'll not be reading another book by Sasha Clinton any time in the near future. Others liked it, so what the heck do I know. Jul 23, Dilushani Jayalath rated it did not like it. Kindly received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. This definitely wasn't my cup of tea.
I really didn't like it. The story was too fast-paced for me. It didn't actually pull me in. Feb 27, Jeannie Zelos rated it really liked it. This sounded great, and the first ten per cent was perfect for me, just wonderful I was so looking forward to the rest of the story. And then it all fell apart for me. Yet she resents the time it took him away from her even knowing life was going to be like this.
She hated her job when they were together, so why not change it, look for something else, why not work with him? How did I miss it? That must have been awful, scary and of course setting yourself up for that possible pain once more is hard. Still, maybe that's not the kind of work she wants to write — its her book after all: ARC supplied by Netgalley and publishers for review purposes. Nov 15, CerysAnne rated it really liked it Shelves: You're Still The One is a second chance romance standalone novel that tells the story of Ashley and Andrew.
First off, I'll start by being completely honest and admitting that I didn't expect to like this book as much as I did. I'd read a lot of mixed reviews before going in, so I didn't know what to expect when I first started reading it, and I was truly surprised by everything that happened in this book. It was basically love at first sight for our two main characters; Andrew proposed two weeks You're Still The One is a second chance romance standalone novel that tells the story of Ashley and Andrew.
It was basically love at first sight for our two main characters; Andrew proposed two weeks after meeting Ashley, and four months later, they were married. They were each other's soul mates, but the problem was, they met at the wrong time in their lives. Andrew is focused on getting his business off the ground, and he makes it perfectly clear to Ashley at the beginning of their relationship that that'll be his main focus.
She's all on board and is ready to support him through it all, but a year into their marriage, with Andrew never home and Ashley working a job she loathes, she becomes depressed - the life she's living isn't the life she imagined for herself. As in love with each other as they were, and as much as they didn't want to have to separate, it's what was best for Ashley's wellbeing. It's years later that they're reunited; Ashley is better and works a job she loves, and Andrew's business has since taken off.
Having written an autobiography, it's pure coincidence that Ashley will be the person editing his book. The beginning - and also the reason why I rated this book four stars - went a little slow for me, and at first, it took me a while to connect with both the story and the characters. The first few chapters is when we see how Andrew and Ashley meet, fall in love, get married, and then we see their downward spiral which then led to their divorce.
It's AFTER that, that's when I got hooked to this book, because there was more to their divorce and the lead up to it than we first thought, and when I saw the mentions of hospital , I needed to know more. Ashley and Andrew's story is a deep one, one that I related to, and one that I fell completely in love with the more I read on. I could not and did not put this book down, not until I'd reached the very last page.
I love a good second chance romance, and it was clear throughout this book that both Ashley and Andrew still loved each other deeply. This author left nothing untouched when it came to showing us why the main characters split in the first place, and how they both fought and talked it out to get back together again. The love Ashley and Andrew felt for each other was true love, and even though I am rating this book four stars because the beginning really was going slow for me, and I really couldn't connect with the story at first , I really did enjoy it.
It's my first Sasha Clinton novel, but I know now that it won't be my last, and I'm super excited to get started on reading the other books in this series. Feb 11, Shelley rated it really liked it.
