Much of what these women say doesn't make sense to me and doesn't describe me as I am and wish to become. Truly the world needs to become a kinder and gentler place, and these qualities have been associated with women -- but women need to realize they are INNATELY no kinder or better than men. Women can be as aggressive and cruel when they think no one is watching! In a report analyzing two decades of gender studies, psychologist Janet Shibley Hyde, PhD, reported that female participants behaved MORE aggressively than did the men when these women were told the experiments in aggression would be blind, and their sex would not be revealed.
The opposite was true when these women were told their sex would be recorded I quote from the online article: In fact, they did the opposite of what would be expected -- the women were more aggressive and the men were more passive. No Big Difference," October 20, I'd like to see a world of kind and loving yet strong and resilient people, regardless of what sex each person happens to be.
This book made me glad to be a woman. In so many ways our society says women are defective. This book is a wonderful collection of essays by some of the brightest, most articulate women.
It has wonderful language from so many authors affirming women and affirming how we can change the world. The listing of on-line resources is terrific.

How our strength pumps the blood into this universe. These came as books on tape. Which for me was a pleasant surprise. I just listened to them every day on my way to work but i could see how it would be a hindrance for some people. This book I didn't care for so much, but it's hard to rate it as there are many articles in it written by different women I loved Gloria Steinem's and Riane Eisler's articles but many others left me cold.
I don't care for "genderizing" -- assumptions as to what a woman is and what a man is. This to me is part of patriarchal dualistic thinking that has caused such divisions and rifts between male and female to begin with! This thinking is part of the problem! A woman is "feminine" and that means such and such, and a man is "masculine" and that means It's much more holistic and much less confusing to say men and women both are human beings and we all have similar qualities and characteristics and potentialities.
Rather, we all need to develop a BALANCE of positive human traits -- strong yet gentle, kind yet bold, soft but not weak, emotional without being gushy, persistent without being pushy, assertive yet tolerant, authoritative without being domineering. I get so tired of others trying to tell me who I am, as a woman! To that effect, I "take the best and leave the rest," and with this book I am doing likewise.
