Once Alex's weapons are depleted, he desperately activates a secret weapon on the Gunstar, the "Death Blossom", that destroys the remaining Ko-Dan fighters. With the fleet destroyed, Lord Kril orders Xur executed for his arrogance and failure to ensure victory, but Xur escapes the mothership just before Alex cripples its guidance controls, causing it to crash into Rylos' moon. Alex is proclaimed the savior of Rylos and invited to help rebuild the Star League, as it is still vulnerable: An unknown alien approaches, revealing himself as Centauri and explaining he was in a healing stasis.
Alex agrees to stay, but he returns to Earth, landing his Gunstar in the trailer park. Grig tells Alex's mother and the people of the trailer park of Alex's heroism, and Alex asks Maggie to come with him; she agrees. Louis is inspired to join Alex and begins playing the Starfighter game. The Last Starfighter is one of the earliest films to make extensive use of computer graphics for its special effects.

In place of physical models, 3D rendered models were used to depict space ships and many other objects. The company created 27 minutes of effects for the film. This was considered an enormous amount of computer generated imagery at the time. Digital Productions estimated that using computer animation required only half the time, and one half to one third the cost of traditional special effects. Not all special effects in the film were done with computer animation.
The depiction of the Beta unit before it had taken Alex's form was a practical effect , created out of materials and produced on-set.

In , an NES game titled The Last Starfighter was released, but it was actually a conversion of Uridium for Commodore 64 , with modified sprites, title screen and soundtrack. A freeware playable version of the game, based on what is seen in the film, was released for PC in This is a faithful reproduction of the arcade game from the film and features full sound effects and music from the game.
The creators of this game, Rogue Synapse, have also built a working arcade cabinet of the game. Susan participates in The Assassination Game, in which every player tries to shoot another with a toy dart gun, until only one remains.
Pretending to do research for his newspaper, college student Alex Marsh teams up with the attractive Susan Swayze. While doing his best to win her over, and helping her finding her targets, Alex discovers that this year the Game may be more serious than most contenders realize Jaded viewers imposing current film standards and expectations may want to look elsewhere, but if one has an appreciation for 80's movies and other movies of this type and pace, then it's clear that Tag has aged well for what it is.
Tag is a dark comedy-thriller that takes place on a college campus during the 's. Think of something along the lines of Terror Train with Jamie Lee Curtis , except with comedy and a tongue in cheek quality to it, at least in the films first half. I've watched it many times since I discovered it in the early 80's after which I got a few people together in my high school so we could hunt each other down with rubber band guns —not recommended.

TAG players are given lists of targets consisting of other players in the TAG group that they chase after all over the large college campus with fake plastic suction tipped dart guns. The last man or woman who hasn't been hunted down and successfully tagged in the end, wins.
There are a few rules to this campus game game play stops at It's all a fun pastime with a chance to meet new people. That is, until things go wrong. The reigning champion played wonderfully by Bruce Abbott in his first film role gets so upset over getting tagged and losing that he decides to use real bullets instead and continue on with the game. The movie is a decent paced 80's film with a noir like tongue in cheek quality to it that develops into the dark and serious, contains a fair amount of suspense, and pulls it all off with nice style for a little film.
Its ending is serious, but with a wink, and an homage to those noir films of yesteryear. It also shows that gore, tons of violence, etc. Though I've never seen anything else really like TAG, there are a few other movies that one might like if they like it, such as Silver Streak , and Foul Play Till then, I guess its out of print VHS tapes.

Zab , Robert Carradine appears in Tag as a dashing cigar smoking journalist who falls in love with the movies heroine. He's still active in his long career. Her role as Sarah Connor in Terminator was still two years away. One can tell from watching her in TAG that she already had a good grip on her craft. She's beautiful here, and thankfully we would see a lot more of her skill and beauty in the years to come, and still do. Incidentally, Bruce Abbott apparently did "get" Linda Hamilton in the end after all, in reality that is.
