Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. It's a very interesting, entertaining and mysterious. Very well told, do not know how to finish everything until the end of the book. One person found this helpful. When Aquino, a young priest is sent by the archbishop to investigate the rumors of bizarre circumstances in an unnamed town, he meets Catalino, the beleaguered gravedigger, who serves as a guide to recent events.
He has just buried twenty-five children, each of them offspring of the deceased parish priest, an insatiable womanizer, whose final words might well have unleashed a series of events even more unsettling than previously described.
The earth swallows an ungrateful child up to his waist and he shrieks with pain at efforts to disinter him; an adulterous couple becomes physically stuck in flagrante; the brothel ladies have their essential parts rendered impenetrable; other transgressors meet even worse fates. In the facile finale, a cleansing flood destroys the town along with most of its inhabitants.
This novella would have benefitted from closer editing for minor errors in spelling and punctuation. The prurient details might render this unsuitable for some young adult collections, which eliminates a potentially appreciative audience, but the tortures of the sinful are creative and original and tame in comparison with Palahniuk.
Coraghessan Boyle and Stephen King will likely enjoy it. Disfrute este libro sobre todo las partes comicas y las ocurrencias de Catalino.
