I started Deliciously Ella back in whilst I was still at university. In , I had been diagnosed with a condition called Postural Tachycardia Syndrome following four months in and out of hospital. I was prescribed a cocktail of medication, but unfortunately they had limited success in managing the condition and after about a year I hit rock bottom, both physically and mentally.
At this point, I started looking into other ways of managing the condition and began researching diet and lifestyle. Encouraged by stories I read, I decided to turn to a plant based diet and overhaul my lifestyle. I had three major obstacles at this point though: I decided the way to combat all three issues was to start a diary of my culinary experiments, pushing myself to try new things in the kitchen each day and rediscover a sense of creativity. I did this online through my blog: The blog was originally intended to be a personal project, a way to encourage myself to fall in love with plant-based eating and eat as healthy diet as I could.
I used the blog as a way of filling my time, as I learnt to cook, photograph and document what I was creating. I quickly found a deep passion for what I was doing, and shared the blog with friends and family.
As the blog became more successful, I started using social media to share more inspiration with our community, before moving into hosting supper clubs and teaching cooking classes, which funded the development of my first commercial venture: Following the success of the app, I was approached to write a cookbook. The book was published in January and became the best-selling debut cookbook ever in the UK.
This was the turning point for our company, taking Deliciously Ella from a small online community into something beyond my wildest expectations. The first book has now been translated into 22 languages, including becoming a NY Times best seller. I met my now husband, and our CEO, Matt, shortly after the book was published and we started talking about taking Deliciously Ella further.
We wanted to share, on scale, the benefits we had experienced from plant-based living. Matt had worked in finance and business development, and we decided to join forces, using both of our skill sets — me on the creative side and Matt on the operational side — to start a family business. I learned to do this after being unhappy with several purchases and finding out gee, other people warned me right there in the reviews!
I'm also one of those reviewers who is not afraid to say what's wrong with a book exaggerated number of recipes or to say that it's really best for beginners to a lifestyle or not. I understand how frustrating it is to leave a less than positive review and to then feel like 'fans and friends' are voting your review not helpful just because they don't like that you didn't fawn I've been a follower of Elana's blog for awhile now, and I purchased another of her low carb books savory last year.

Another reviewer stated they felt this book was best for beginners to Paleo because it has a lot of simple recipes, and I would definitely recommend this as a book for a newbie to have. Everything in it is pretty straightforward and there isn't anything complicated; but on that same note I found the delicious simplicity of the recipes to be worth it. Sure, 'mustard and salmon' is almost cringingly basic for more advanced cooks but I think the book strives to make something for everyone.
The recipes are unfailingly comprised of fresh ingredients, minimal prep time and cooking effort, for a big flavor payoff.
The first book has now been translated into 22 languages, including becoming a NY Times best seller. I could have served this whole beautifully-browned pan of goodness to company and they would have felt as though they were getting high-dollar fare! Page 1 of 1 Start over Page 1 of 1. One tip to remember — remove as much water from the spinach as possible by pressing it or rolling it in kitchen towel.
For the experience of the color photos, and the feel of the book, I found the price to be very worth it. I honestly would not have enjoyed this book as much had it been an e-book. The flavor profiles are very balanced, and I haven't had to tweak any seasonings or spices at all. THIS is almost unheard of in my kitchen! I prefer big brassy flavor in my food rather than salt so that it's an experience; these recipes are truly tasty just as written.
Note on the Chicken Marbella: I used a 10 lb. We had several meals' worth of food with just a 'dump and bake' effort, and it tastes like something you'd get at a restaurant. I could have served this whole beautifully-browned pan of goodness to company and they would have felt as though they were getting high-dollar fare! The entire 10 lb. Elena Amsterdam is one of my favorite cookbook authors. I have all of her published cookbooks and use them almost daily. This one is great. I eat low carb and use the recipes in that way and they are always delicious.
Most use easy to find in my local market simple ingredients. Not all of her recipes are percent low carb but with almost all of them I can substitute 1 ingredient and make them low carb. She uses honey and agave nectar as sweeteners in her recipes and since I do not use those I found some sugar free syrup made from Stevia and use that instead. I highly recommend her cookbooks and her website for gluten free, paleo and low carb diet followers. This is an excellent cookbook for GF and paleo.
I've bought it several times for gifts, and have the hard copy and the kindle copy for myself. Dont want to go somewhere and not have access to GF basic recipes. All of her cookbooks are wonderful. Love Elana's blog, love her cookbooks, it's great if you want to eat paleo, gluten-free, or just healthier. Tried the bagels and they came out great. I'm not a paleo newbie but I still find this book to be super helpful and very well done.
I have a stack of paleo cookbooks and recipes bookmarked. Sometimes those recipes turn out well and sometimes they really don't, especially the baked goods. Elana's book and her website recipes always turn out well. They've clearly been tested and re-tested and everything is solid. I've been making paleo pancakes from all types of websites and books for years and my kids are never "fooled". I made the paleo pancake recipe in Elana's book and my kids asked me why we weren't eating paleo anymore.
They are great and an excellent stand in for the "real" kind. This is a great resource, I highly recommend. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase.
Large selection, well written, good advice on how to use certain foods compared to traditional ingredients, and easy to follow. Nice list of where to find some ingredient which even included online site already among my favorite shopping places for several years now. I must say I am a prejudiced fan of Elana's cookbooks and blog. I found Elana several years ago when I needed to learn how to cook without grains for my diabetic husband. Hers were the first recipes I tried. They were simple, easy, and always satisfying. To this day, I will never make another tomato sauce for pizza or other dishes other than Elana's which is so simple as to be ridiculous and tastes better than anything you can buy in a grocery store.
I own all of Elana's cookbooks and use them all. This one is no exception. I was delighted when Elana morphed into paleo cooking, just as I did. Her recipes are so easy to follow and they always come out tasting great. I've never had a failure following her recipes.
I highly recommend this cookbook and her blog if you want to eat healthy, gluten-free, and now paleo. Elana has always been generous with her information and her time in perfecting her recipes.
