Cornelia really cherishes her relationship with Virginia, and Virginia is very taken with Cornelia as well — she writes about her! Their friendship enables Cornelia to reach out to other people, including girls her own age and her somewhat distant mother.
This was one of those nice books and I mean that in the best way! Alas, they are fictional. I was heartbroken when Virginia died and when her friend and companion, Patel, settled her affairs and then chose to move back to India. And the destruction of her whimsically designed apartment was also hard to bear. I found myself wishing these places and people were real, so that I could find out more about them. Oct 13, Susan rated it really liked it. This is an incredibly sweet book. I adored little Cornelia, and the "audacious escapades" Virginia shared were both hilarious and endearing. This story is the perfect sort for reading aloud--Virginia's tales in particular are well-suited to a dramatic read. I have to say that it read a bit younger than I was looking for, so I had a harder time getting into it than I expected. But once I was fully attached to Cornelia and those wild Somerset sisters , I no longer noticed the "lower" reading level This is an incredibly sweet book.

This is a great book that has parts that makes you laugh and feel bad for the character. If you really like books about adventures this is a great book for you. This book has many chapters each of which tells about a different adventure. The author has aimed this book towards girls but I think anyone will love it. I fell in love with this book andI think you will too. I read this book in elementary school, I think the 4th grade. And then I reread it in 7th grade. I love Cornelia and I love the adventures of the sisters. Morocco was especially memorable and it's because of this book I love to read, I love to travel, and I love to learn. This book is my absolute favorite book in the world and this review doesn't do the stories of the Somerset sisters justice. The dog on the cover, supposedly owned by the author, is cute, and I did like Cornelia's penchant for words, but the novel itself seemed forced and flat. It will probably be made into an okay film.

The stories of the somerset sisters and captivating, intriguing and of course funny. It was sad too. It also showed me how lucky I am to have a mum that makes time for me and is always there. The cover is kind of basic looking, and at first the writing felt like it might be geared toward an audience a little younger than me because it probably was. But I'm happy I didn't give up on it.
I didn't expect "Cornelia" to be such a special book, but it's got to be one of the funniest and most poignant books I've read all year. I really identified with the introverted personality of the titular Cornelia, and fell in love with the stories of Virginia Somerset. Now, I know everytime I update here I write something about crying over the story, but believe it or not, I'm not usually a crier when I read.
Only when a book has really touched my soul do tears come. Needless to say, I cried all the way through the last twenty pages of "Cornelia," with big fat tears rolling down my cheeks and sobs wracking my breath. I hadn't realized how much I had come to love the characters and the stories until I had to say goodbye to them. Hopefully without giving too much away, I want to say that the ending reminded me of my own experiences with a dear teacher of mine called Mrs. Maybe that's why I cried so hard and so sincerely. If you haven't read this book yet, I'd highly recommend it. It's short, sweet, funny, and yes, tear-inducing.

As a kid who grew up with classic books, musicals, and old black-and-white movies, I was quickly won over. The story mainly focuses on Cornelia's relationships with two women, the elderly new neighbor, Ms.
Virginia Somerset, and Cornelia's mother, Lucy. Both are explored in a slow and thoughtful manner that allows space for the reader to come to their own conclusions. My favorite part of Cornelia was how it reflected the importance of storytelling, not just for those who hear the stories, but for those who are telling them.
While this book may be too slow paced for some readers, I think the ones who are of a mind to sit and listen to the tales of an old globetrotter for an afternoon will feel as richly rewarded as Cornelia herself. She soon found out that the worl Cornelia and the Audacious Escapades of the Somerset Sisters, is about a girl named Cornelia Englehart. She soon found out that the world is a lot less lonely than she thought. I thought that this book was absolutely outstanding what I loved about this book is how the Cornelia developed as a person she got less awkward and shy and started to really trust her mother she made more friend and became kind of social butter fly.
Although the character is not easy to relate to because not everyone's parents are famous pianists who are never around. I feel that book will be loved by every child that pick it up. There are many decisions to be made in life and if you make the wrong decision someone can correct or help you through it. If you are ever in a weird situation, you can ask for help from another person. Like when Virginia helped Cornelia make friends and when Virginia helped Lucy learn that Corn I think that this book uses some higher vocabulary words and it tells you what the word means.
