If you have read other books edited by Ganguly, you will be aware of her style of crisp editing without over-shadowing the author. This book at her hands turns sharp, as it is needed for a story as majestic as this. I mostly dislike the complicated approach towards narration and use of big words unnecessarily. So I am very pleased with the fact that Chatterjee focused on what actually matters the most, the plot structure and the story.
This is not one of those books which you will pick up and read front to back within hours, this will need your time. You will have to set it down from time to time to let the magnanimity sink in. I as a reader would request you to take your time with this one. And maybe go back to it a few months later again.
Although I must add here, some war scenes are pretty graphic, which might irk some readers. Another great book from the publishing desk of Readomania, pick it up, if you want a story of a real man, of an epic character told in the language of the people.

The Last Job is almost too short to be called a novella, therefore it also lacked in execution and worldbuilding. Still, I think it was kinda fun that a vampire executive gets his heart stolen by union workers who happens to be weres just because they want higher wages.

I'm sorry, I just don't want to pay for snippets from up and coming books. This is why I've chosen to detract 1 star from my rating. Apr 16, Taylor Alcantar rated it it was ok. I did like the two short stories but they didn't feel like they had solid endings, even for short stories. The first one was a little unclear to me to begin with, it was sort of like a religiously-distorted-Dante-Valentine universe that wasn't as interesting.
The character in the second story actually did remind me of Dante Valentine, but again, it ended quickly and a little strangely I couldn't understand why the character reacts like she did. Since, The Hedge witch Queen excerpt was something that would be free anyway, I didn't really think it belonged in this but, oh well.
It was a good chapter and I'll have to give that one a try. Dec 30, Kathy Kindle-aholic rated it really liked it Shelves: The MC is at Holy Camp, where they try to reform troublemakers. And her best friend has just told her he's the Antichrist. I liked this one.

It's dark, but at the same time hopeful, in a "the world's ending but lets go see what we can do in the meantime" kind of way. If you are the kind of person who would be very unhappy in a story where the Antichrist seems the A YA short set in Murica, where Christian zealots have taken over the country think close to the world in Atwood's Handmaid's Tale. If you are the kind of person who would be very unhappy in a story where the Antichrist seems the lesser of two evils, you probably won't like this.
However, I like it when authors mess with preconceived notions. And I wouldn't want to live in Murica either. This is very short, so if you normally don't like short stories, or you want a book that lasts for days, you won't be happy here. Dec 03, Jean rated it really liked it Shelves: Both were excellent - The Last Job is classic Lilith Saintcrow, and Unfallen is a teasing glimpse into a fascinating world and characters. One that ends a bit abruptly. I would like to read a longer story like Unfallen. For the price I would have liked a longer read, but I am satisfied with the stories I got.
Can't really go wrong with Saintcrow. Unfallen 0 Stars - Can't stand religion bashing. Beside that the characters were flat and story had not heart. My mind kept trying to wander from the story. The last job 4 star - I really liked this. Wouldn't even mind a series to follow.
Very, very, very short. Loses a star for a lack of character development. Aug 12, Sara rated it really liked it Shelves: I quite liked this. The first story, in my opinion, was far superior to the second.
It didn't have the grab you by the balls factor the distopian YA did. Oct 05, Jagged rated it liked it. I think Unfallen should have been more than a short story. I was enjoying it. The last job was good enough as a short story for me though, I at least felt satisfied after reading it, unlike with Unfallen.
Aug 17, Brielle rated it it was ok. They were really too short to allow me to appreciate my favourite thing about Lilith Saintcrow, which is the worldbuilding. She could make them turn into something amazing. But right now, they're not. Apr 08, Lasciel rated it liked it Shelves: I think I counted 2 and a bit stories in here and honestly they didn't make much of an impression.
The teaser of a novel at the end was longer than the other stories, or at least it felt it. Feb 22, Kelly Martin rated it it was ok. I hate ambigious endings. The second short story was OK, but the first one just stopped. Mar 27, Kristy rated it did not like it.
As much as like this writer I didn't care for these two short stories. I enjoyed both short stories. I loved the both enough that I would love to see them develop into full novels. Nov 06, Lauren rated it it was amazing Shelves: Valdes rated it it was ok Mar 13, Deina rated it liked it Jan 05,
