This was a fabulous book from beginning to the end. The hero and heroine were great as well as every other character and a great plot too. NJ Layouni has done it again in this perfect continuation of Martha's story.

Our modern-day heroine Martha has mastered the art of fitting into her medieval world - almost. She still can't help speaking her mind to anyone, from a king all the way down to a servant, and she still relentlessly sticks up for the underdog. I love that about her!

Martha is like the gi NJ Layouni has done it again in this perfect continuation of Martha's story. Martha is like the girl in school who ALWAYS has the snappy comeback that you wish you had, but even though you didn't think of it first, you're cheering anyway because she's putting a meanie in their place.

NJ makes Martha's lines funny as she peppers them with modern slang that makes everyone around her go "huh? You will feel every gust of wind, see every drop of sweat on a tired horse, smell every delicious aroma from the kitchen, and feel the cold glass of a windowpane under your fingertips.

She completely transports you to her world of Erde! Vadim is back wooo-hooo! His foster brother Anselm is a confused, tortured "hero" he's supposed to be a bad guy, but I couldn't hate him. I felt like all he really needed was a good therapist! And that's another plus for this book, that the character development is so good that you root for the reform of one would-be villain. The ending is beautiful, but I won't give anything away. Let's just say that the old story of "The Gift of the Magi" by O. Henry comes to mind.

Only this ending isn't about gifts, but about how much the main characters are willing to do to ensure each other's happiness. May 17, Bob Clarkson rated it it was amazing.

Layouni, what can I say. If she gets a good editor she is going to be an author with whom to be reckoned. There are so many other reviews that tell you of the story and the characters that anything I could say would be redundant. Ignore the English slang well, look it up so you know what it means and don't let it bug you. The same goes for the misspelled words. Concentrate on the story, you'll be glad you did.

It was a slow ride up and up and up — it may have felt like that because of me wanting Vadim to rescue Martha already — and then it went down.

I hated Anselm for what he did — and he does plenty. I went from hating him to liking him. Fair warning, this one is not all sunshine and unicorns and rainbows — not that the first one was, mind you but this one is darker. Poor Martha, I sympathized with her.

I liked her in the first one, liked her here, as well. There was a scene that made me want to shake some senses into her and let me tell you, what comes after that ruined my manicure. I was waiting with bated breath for damn Vadim to make an appearance, already. I was kinda pissed at him for not charging in and saving the day.

Well, it could but in another story, one more fairytale-ish but not Wolfsbane. He would not be without her again. I foresee more ruined manicures in my distant future. I want more Vadim. When Castle Edgeway is besieged Martha finds he "Wolfsbane" the second book in "Tales of a Time Traveler" opens as Martha Bigelow, confined to Anselm's living quarters in the Earl of Edgeway's castle struggles to overcome her fear and uncertainty as war approaches. When Castle Edgeway is besieged Martha finds her loyalties suddenly divided and her love for Vadim tested. The plot thickens as Martha not only contends with the Earl's fury and Anselm's confusing temperament, but struggles to find a way to break free of her prison.

By the time war arrives at the front gates the line between friend and foe has deteriorated with Anselm's consideration and protection while Martha's irritation and anger with the man she loves has grown. Slowly the author builds emotional intensity as Martha has to make choices; whether or not to stay in this medieval period ; to trust her instincts about Anselm; and to have faith in her love for Vadim.

The story heats up when King Erik's plan to stay at Edgeway Castle for an indeterminate period is countered in an explosive confrontation between his warriors and the Earl of Weyland's army. Suspense, excitement and action escalate as danger, fear and violence suffuses the atmosphere. The story is a roller-coaster ride that doesn't slow down as the conflict mounts not only between the armies , but with the vengeance of enemies.

Yet for all the violence, cruelty, anguish and death that's often diluted by witty banter and humorous incidents there are strong elements of forgiveness, healing and redemption in a story that flows quickly and smoothly to an intriguing conclusion. Haunted by tragedy and the loss of his father's title and estate, he continues to be brave, loyal and honorable as he struggles to keep his promises. Martha and Vadim's trust and love is tested by their forced separation, by her friendship with Anselm and with a difficult decision.

As much as it's nice to see how things turn up, I felt like he missed out from the story and in result gave more room for us to know Anselm. It's hard to be certain on how it end and so you're constantly in suspense and excitement.

Despite being villain, the author shed a lot of light on their redeeming quality, their background and their reasons that makes us feel for them. Love, moral, consequences, trust, forgiveness, courage and integrity.. Feeling and emotion that makes you see those qualities within the story.

I'm not even sure I make any sense trying to describe how I feel.. Lots of loose end that I prefer to be wrap up nicely. With Vadim on top preferable. Layouni does not take the easy way out and make Martha a one-dimensional "feisty" heroine. She puts Martha through some very human struggles, and we watch her wrestle with her trust in Vadim. She wavers and slips sometimes, and she is open to Anselm in ways other people are not. All this made me reflect on the title and how far Martha has traveled from where she began. Layouni has creat An absolutely fun, well-written and though provoking sequel to Hemlock. Layouni has created a character who makes choices just as confusing, frustrating and mysterious as any man I know today.

He is not a typical hero in this book, which I appreciated. I do want to see more of him, but the amount of time we spend with him in this book was perfectly crafted by the author. To her great credit, she deftly handled a long battle scene, evoking the chaotic atmosphere of a castle under siege, yet creating several human-sized vignettes within it.

This story picks up right where book 1 leaves off. Martha is in the clutches of the Evil Earl and Anselm. Vadim comes to learn that she has been taken and vows to get her back, no matter the cost. Martha, of course, doesn't like her new home. She's a spitfire towards the Earl and Anselm, but quickly learns she might be better off treating Anselm with at least decency. She finds a few allies at the castle, and learns that Vadim is coming for her, although it's seeming to take quite a while. The ri This story picks up right where book 1 leaves off.

The rightful king and his troops arrive to storm the castle, after learning the imposter king will be staying there for a short while. Martha continues to be her sassy self. As the was begins and battles are waged, assistance comes from the unlikeliest places. When Vadim finally reaches Martha, she is relieved, but at the same time upset that it took him so long.
