Don't really like this type of reading. When Amish Bloodsuckers first came up on my Twitter feed I laughed and said to myself, "Now there is a book I am not interested in reading. Brink is a very gifted tweeter and she drew me in as she promoted "Chosen" in characters or less. This book reminded me of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer television series in that it involved a teenage girl slaying vampires with the help of her friends.
There was also a little romance for those romantically inclined. The first book lays the groundwork for the second and third. The story starts off with Jael as a misfit in a regular high school located in Sunburn, Nevada. She discovers just before her sixteenth birthday that she is the chosen one.
Her father, mother and an uncle are aware of this and have been training Jael to fight vampires from a very early age. Jael's parents are from the Amish community of Loon Lake, Minnesota where vampires have taken over the leadership. I don't want to reveal any more of the plot, but have no doubt this is a unique and engaging read. I liked the writing style.
I liked the characters. The story was action packed. There was enough detail to paint a picture, but not so much that the story bogged down in it. One thing I appreciated was the respectful way Barbara E. Brink treated people who live and express their faith in a way far from mainstream.
Important life lessons were shared without being clunky and getting in the way of telling a good story. The only real complaint I have is that the author's writing is so captivating that it was impossible to stop at one book. Housework and other non-essential work waited until I finished all three books.
I am going to make sure there is nothing super important on my calendar before I start another book by Barbara E. I purchased copies of this book individually at Amazon. At first glimpse the premise of a gathering of undead vampires living off of a quiet and unsuspecting community away from the constructs of modern life intrigued me. The books are all well written with an active plot line that never left me waiting for what happens next. The story unfolded very naturally and the characters were human and familiar. I was a little nervous about how the character element would be presented before I began reading the books.
I was curious how the author would make two very foreign groups, the Amish and the Vampires relate-able and approachable to readers like myself who have always been surrounded by a technological and fully alive selection of people to interact with. Brink pulled off the character element with style and grace. The protagonist, Jael was as vulnerable as any teenager would be, yet she found her inner strength and was able to preserver against forces and situations that placed her in a difficult situation at a very young age.
Her peers were diverse and endearing. Her interactions with Amish world out of her comfort zone were refreshing. All of that aside, these books were action packed reads that filled the promise for edge of your seat slaying action while remaining true to a moral and a clean portrayal of the life of a young woman.
I also enjoyed the biblical elements that were skillfully woven in as an integral parts of the story line. They are a great choice for a fun summer or any season read! What is it about vampires? Jael wonders the same thing until she discovers she was born to end the evil rule of a few. She is a young woman on a mission that includes sorrow, misunderstanding, danger, and fear. In order to live, she must vanquish the head vampire. On the way to conquest she also discovers hope, faith, and love. I highly recommend it and give it a hearty 5 stars!

The author was able to make her a typical teen, with everyday worries and baggage, and also with a secret life as a vampire slayer, and made it believable and really fun. The bloodsuckers are nasty, Jael is double tough, her family is fiercely devoted and her friends are loyal. There are some tender moments in this story and a whole lot of humor.
You'd expect that with the title Amish Bloodsuckers! It's all in good fun, but there is some serious slaying too! Jael didn't go through all of that training for nothing. But Barbara Brink made me love them again. It's fast paced and the dialog is realistic. I'm looking forward to the next two. But she shouldn't have called it a trilogy. That way she could keep writing about Jael and Shadow.

I read this trilogy, each book consecutively, I was so hooked! I enjoyed it so much, that I looked forward to my nighttime ritual of reading, that I started because of this Trilogy! I haven't read such a fantastically written vampire fiction like this, since the Anne Rice "Vampire Chronicles! This was a truly awesome Trilogy! One person found this helpful. Truly could not put this series down. Usually by the third book I am bored. So sad when it ended. I was torn some by taking a story out of the Bible and turning it into a vampire story.
Not really sure how I feel about that but still could not put these books down. Barbara Ellen Brink does not disappoint with every book I have read. Great grand finale to the series! I loved that there were new elements with the vampires that made them more dangerous, and the last scenes of "battle" were epic.
This would make such a great movie! I really am amazed at how much I enjoyed this series given that I hated Twilight! This is vampires done right. This book raps up the Bloodsucker trilogy and it does not disappoint!
Jael tries to balance her new Amish lifestyle with fitting in at school, all under constant threat that the ultimate enemy may discover her identity and unravel everything she's worked for. With romance and action from cover to cover this exciting conclusion keeps you on your toes until the final confrontation and a painful choice. With her friends and family in constant danger this culmination is a real nail-biter and I would recommend it to anyone!
Thanks for a wonderful ride. I'm a little relieved to be done so I can catch up on dishes and laundry now, but sad it's over. That was a great series and different than anything I've read before. This series is great read. I loved this story. There are grammar and punctuation problems that bothered me, but I loved this story.
