Meanwhile, Alex begins advanced training with Mr. Will he be able to help her find a clue to. Will he be able to help her find a clue to her sister's disappearance? Or is the home-schooled Alex in way over her head? Svetlana never fails to amaze me. The world created is beautifully drawn as well as captivating. I first discovered her works because of and have since became a huge fan!
I love her art as well as the stories she comes up with. Although this is the end of this arc I hear there is a new arc in development that makes me extremely excited. The story itself continues to give you twists and turns that lead you not sure what is going to happen but in all is revealed in the 4th volume. If you like any of her previous work or enjoy stories that don't take themselves too seriously this is a series to pick up! Another volume 3rd of 4 of a comic with manga style art work by a westerner.
And we get the follow up from the cliffhanger at the end of the previous volume where we see what happens when you call out a legend for bluffing, when the legend just CAUGHT and arrow! Fun comic, exciting action, great characters. I love this series. I am still waiting to finish it but the story and characters are fantastically written and the artwork is entrancing.

Plus the hunters start to become overpowered in my mind, and slightly stupid view spoiler [ in how they just go along with what the Sohrem says without telling Daemon hide spoiler ] , respectively they seem to be getting new powers from… somewhere.
Which makes you wonder why they can't do more. However, despite its tremendous flaws now, the book has redeeming qualities, which makes it even weirder that the author was so unimaginative with the previously mentioned elements. We still have good comedic elements while the story overall shifts into a darker tone more fitting to a climax. We do see how Daemon cares very much for his student hunters and maybe even blames himself for what happened to them.
We see some good comedy, backstory, even if slightly forced, from the weirn Mr. Roi and his long age is in fact handled pretty realistically, in that he needs notes and all to remember things, and his "underlings" are pretty funny and imaginative not going to spoil that for you. You learn more about what is going on in the school for some time now and even how it affects Alex's life. Also for all their stupidity the hunter kids don't just shrug off what happened to them and their friends and they don't act overdramatic either. You can believe it. Furthermore our more experienced trio of magic users also show a lot of competence and there are again these nice little touches in the overall good artwork, like the Mrs.
Chen's fiery freak-out, that makes big chunks of this book a very enjoyable read. For some reason here the colored pages where the first few pages of the volume, not of the second chapter per volume as in volume 1 and 2. Sep 12, Courtney rated it really liked it. This review is from my blog, Studies in Storytelling. To see the complete version, please visit http: A normal school by day, The Nightschool teaches vampires, weirns, mermaids, etc. The coarse, homeschooled Alex Treveney tries to track down her sister, Sarah, a teacher at the Nightschool.
She also has a slight tendency to black out and leave slow, This review is from my blog, Studies in Storytelling. She also has a slight tendency to black out and leave slow, brutal death in her wake. Across the four books, I had fun picking apart some of Chmakova's storytelling tricks. The cheerful Sarah Treveney is pessimistic about the ball-busting Mrs. Hatcher, who in turn offers her optimistic support. Instant synchronized character dynamism!
The storytelling emphasizes slow moments.
On pages of volume 1, for example, back-to-back panels are almost identical, showing very gradual change. A door, a portal, slowly closes. If the door were "the clock" of the story and we had a protagonist racing through it like Indiana Jones, it would build suspense.
But this slow-motion-ization serves a different purpose. It creates a sense of finality. It clues you in and braces you: The person who has gone through the door will not come back. I like how to book handles cursing. I wish this kind of censorship were acceptable in YA formats. It's not an entirely distracting compromise. It allows for the maintenance of a little realism. Magic always has a recognizable relationship to technology.
A street gang fights with a combination of pistols, crossbows, and poison. The process of tracking spells is tantamount to hacking computer systems. Magical pills stabilize psychological dysfunction in Seers. Astrals are like iPhones combined with pets. They provide passcoded hiding places for files, remind you of the time, sound security alerts, and beg for treats.
The story asks, and sometimes even answers, good questions about death. What is the difference between death and existence?
Nightschool answers, Memory and evidence of life. What is memory's relationship to death?
Without memory, death achieves something greater than itself. The dead becomes nonexistent. And finally, how is a slow death both crueler and kinder to loved ones? At the story's turning point, most characters have braced themselves for the death of their friends - but one cannot stand for it and seeks revenge. Unanswerable questions always seem to be the strongest, don't they? Oct 10, Cornerofmadness rated it liked it Shelves: That is never a good sign. The beginning half of this volume deal with the Hunters, whose abilities and role are still murky I think some of that is very intentional but from a reader stand point, being this far in and not having a definite idea about any of the supernatural aspects is annoying.
They have been betrayed by one of their own as they try to protect a seer with memory issues as werewolves attack. Hounded out of their safe house, they end up following their leader to Mr. He finally fills the reader in on a big missing chunk of the story that there were once a half dozen kids possessed by something called the Sohrem and he defeated them a few thousand years ago. They are apparently back now and one of them is in the seer. Back at the school, Alex, a homeschooled young witch with a secret is working with the few people at the Night School that can remember her sister, a guardian at the school.
Over all, some definition about the roles of the paranormals in this universe would be helpful. I need more character definition too. I find no one who sticks out except Mr. The art is decent and Chmakova has a following from her other manga. However, I found some real issues for me at least in the art especially with proportions and chins that are too elongated and worse, lopsided.
Dec 23, Mel rated it it was amazing. Die letzten Mangas sind schon eine Weile her. Die Autorin hat das alles wirklich sehr gut umgesetzt.
May 30, Soobie's scared rated it really liked it Shelves: Maybe this one is the best volume of all because finally I started to understand what was going on in the story and how the two main plots were connecting to each other. Too weird that this happened on the third our of four volume.
I don't know, maybe four volume in not enough to tell the story the author had in mind. Maybe this is her weak point. Too bad that the people at school doen't ha Maybe this one is the best volume of all because finally I started to understand what was going on in the story and how the two main plots were connecting to each other.
Too bad that the people at school doen't have more time on screen: I mean, the principal is so funny! Ok, one more volume and then I'm done! May 15, Megan M rated it it was amazing. Awesome volume with tons of action and so much of the backstory that I've been wanting from this series! I can't wait to learn more about Mr.
Roi, who I might have some hot for teacher feeling for. The Sorhem are incredibly creepy, especially because Chmakova does a great job of giving us just enough information that we're scared of them, but not so much that our imagination can't go wild trying to figure out what is going on.
I definitely recommend these books for fans of series like Vampire Ac Awesome volume with tons of action and so much of the backstory that I've been wanting from this series! I definitely recommend these books for fans of series like Vampire Academy.
Jun 22, Miss Ryoko rated it really liked it Shelves: What a cliff hanger! I really hope she's able to start working on more of this series soon! I fear that after I read the 4th volume, I will be full of rage for having to wait because I'll be dying to know what happens next. I blame Jillian XD Haha!!
It should also be noted that I'm even more entertained that Teresa character, not me: Though some people called me Reesa. Character Teresa and I have a lot in common; same name, Oh man!
Character Teresa and I have a lot in common; same name, same nickname, and total babes ;- XD Anyway, once again, awesome volume! Jan 21, Nicole rated it really liked it Shelves: Still loving this series, though I think I liked the story progression in the first two volumes a bit better. Seemed like Chmakova was trying to pack in a lot of detail in this one, which gave me less time to just enjoy the characters. I think they'll still have an online subscription available, but I'll probably now just wait for volume releases to feed my Nightschool hunger Oct 08, Dani - Perspective of a Writer rated it really liked it Shelves: I really liked volume 1 and 2 but I realized I was considering them as one volume rather than the 2 that they really were.
Manga is very multi-layered and developed, we get a packed punch in one volume. While this has a compelling central storyline, it is a tad one dimensional. I like the turn of events with Alex and find her a compelling protagonist even if she's turning into a kind of antagonist for the hunters and night school kids.
A decent American manga. For those that haven't read this yet, what the heck are you waiting for? Pick up one and two today It is packed with action, comedy and adventure.
