Let's just stay that it is a little gem of a story. As you may or may not know, Corgis or Corgwyn of Welsh mythology are the trusty steeds of fairies.
This book is about one such Corgi, Pippin, the faithful mount of the fairy Aliiana, but who spends his days in the care of a loving human family that is totally unaware that their pet has such a big secret. And so Aliiana and Pippin are joined by an elf named Nelathen, a sprite called Birgitte, a Gornak the Dwarf, and a mountain lion named Barrol in an adventure around the western United States to recover the stolen Gem and restore the safety of all good magic.

The point of view is from the corgi his mind, which is quite nicely done if you ask me! Sep 14, Liz rated it liked it Shelves: Despite this being a children's book, I still really enjoyed the story.
Honestly, I bought it because the cover was adorable and it sounded really cute -- it definitely delivered in that department. The author cleverly integrates fantasy elements into a modern-day American setting, and there's a delightful mix of science and magic. I may like my villain to have more backstory than sheer, entitled brattiness.
I do like the idea of making a toned down Fellowship of the Ring, and this hits all of the classic fantasy standards. The magical mcguffin, the dark lord, and the motley band of allies that the party picks up as it moves along the quest are all there. This book does really do well to introduce the basics of the genre. For the most part, it keeps itself moving. Even my complaints about the challenges the heroes face being too easy can be handwaved as the author saving her big moments for the end, because things do pick up there.
