Fogged Inn is the fourth book in the Maine Clambake series and winter has arrived in Maine. Julia and Chris have just opened Gus's Too, transforming Gus's diner into a fine dining restaurant during the winter months.
Just after they finally open the restaurant, a dead man is found in the walk in cooler and Julia is thrown into the middle of yet another mystery, this one spanning decades. I really enjoyed this, the plot was really well done; I confess I had no idea where it was going until the end Fogged Inn is the fourth book in the Maine Clambake series and winter has arrived in Maine.
I really enjoyed this, the plot was really well done; I confess I had no idea where it was going until the end. So many twists and turns that my head was spinning! Truly, this plot of dizzying; very well crafted and kept me turning pages well into the night. I liked that Julia, a tiny bit high and mighty because she helped the police solve 3 other murders, got a bit of a comeuppance in the story. Between that and the confrontation with Chris, I felt like Julia grew as a character.
The hallmark of this series has always been the rich characters, and I enjoy that more dimension is added as the series progresses. In that same vein, though, I don't understand this whole story line with Jaime. I don't feel it adds anything to the series. Perhaps it will at some point, but for now it's just filler. Overall, a great addition to an already great series and one I highly recommend. Feb 14, Peter Ackerman rated it liked it. The book opens up with the series' heroin, Julia Snowden now running an evening restaurant during the downtime when the summer clambake is not run.

The stranger soon turns up dead and clues begin to point to a connection between the four townsfolk that were present that evening.
This series of books are cozy mysteries up until now, but this particular installment did not seem as "cozy. This seemed more an attempt at a breakout novel towards a more serious Agatha Christie type mystery but it did not reach that level either.
I very much enjoy this series and will continue on should there be another, but as you can tell I was disappointed by this new installment in the otherwise excellent series. Jan 02, Melissa Cochrill rated it really liked it. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a review from Netgalley and Kensington Publishing. All opinions and views expressed in this review are entirely my own. The book starts off with a bang, as Gus discovers a dead body in his walk in freezer.
So, naturally the dead man dined at their establishment the night before. Who is thi I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a review from Netgalley and Kensington Publishing.
Who is this man? Why was he murdered? I did find this book to start quickly, but get stale in the middle. Part of me kept wondering why Julia was investigating. It didn't seem like this mystery really involved her much. She just seemed nosy and bothersome. However, the story did pick back up.
This book had more layers and depth than the last few books. Overall, a good book and a great series that I will continue to read. Mar 05, Brittny rated it it was ok Shelves: I'm not sure why, but I just couldn't connect with the characters. This was the fourth book in the series, and I have not read the previous books. The storyline did not require it, but I may have been more invested if I had. I enjoyed the setting and the main character's spunkiness, but I struggled with the main character's relationship with her boyfriend.
It also felt like the story had some pacing issues and was slow at some points. I love mystery series and I'm so glad I found this author. She has a charming way of phrasing things and finds a choice of words that are unexpected and fit perfectly. She touches on little details about the weather, food, chores, and characters and pulls it all together for a fun read and good ending. Jan 21, Caitlin Copp rated it it was amazing Shelves: I love love love these books!
When Gus finds a body in the walk-in freezer of the restaurant Julia just can't help but start digging around and asking questions. The story goes fast and is yet again another great read in the Clambake series. Feb 24, Jason rated it it was amazing. My favorite of the series! Good food, a body in the freezer, a missing picture and a prohibition age tunnel-could you ask for anything more?!!!!!
However, the mystery was clever and I loved the outcome. Feb 07, Stef rated it it was amazing Recommends it for: I said in a former review that when Julia takes a decision as to where her life is going to be, that might be the end of the series, or not. She has taken some decisions, everything is fine with the family, her love life is going strong. But once again she is put in a situation where she has to act herself just to keep sane.
Intriguing, somewhat convoluted story, with a surprising ending. Cats, Books, and…More Cats , January The next morning a man is found dead in the walk-in freezer. Julia remembers that she sold 5 certificates in a block and finds that 4 of the customers paid with these gift certificates. Four couples arrived separately and placed themselves in different areas of the restaurant. Feb 07, Stef rated it it was amazing Recommends it for: Once again Julia investigates and finds out information that the police do not think is important.
The story line in this book goes way back, uncovering connections between people who seem to be totally inculpable with regards to an accident on an icy road and a murder in the MC's restaurant. There are lots of new character introductions - who knows which one will pop up again in later books?
There is some potential for a colorful community. For the first time, Julia borders on the naive, but she cuts the corner, so I still love her. The storyline as such is SOOO good! An extremely enjoyable read. I have bought 5. And since I enjoy switching from e-book to audio-book, I have been desperate enough to ask Barbara when the audio book will be available for 5.
