A Royal Mess
S ofia The First Season 1 Episode 5 A Royal Mess

I only wish I remembered more of the history behind it; that might have bumped it up to side-splitting. If you're seeking a light-hearted, ludicrous tale designed simply to make you smile, look no further. The Royal Mess is a marvelous way to lose yourself - and your worries - for a few breezy hours. Sep 21, Judy Geeky Reading rated it really liked it Shelves: While I have finished her Mermaid series, and have not been able to find the next Vampire Betsy book, I have been pretty much picking up whichever book of hers I can find.

And I found this series. So I ended up reading the series backwards not on purpose, but still. This is the final book in the Alaskan Royal Family series, and I rather enjoyed it. This one is about Nicole, a girl who found out she was a princess after her mother died, and ends up falling for Jeffrey, a bodyguard to the royal family she is now a part of. This is bothersome, but I can deal with it, at least for the moment.

This story was fun, like her others. The romance was very nice, and I liked the couple together, as usual. There's some drama, but it's pretty lighthearted, not much suspense or anticipation, and I never had any doubt about how the book would end. There's also some political stuff in these books, because it's set in Alaska as if we never bought it, and it has a royal family system, but I wasn't very bothered by it. Nor did I pay too much attention to it.

It is very sad to think my favorite royal will not have his own book. While setting the table for tea in her room, Baileywick tells Sofia that he knows James was the one who really broke the window and she took the blame for him because he knows that she wouldn't play ball in the castle after her father said not to and James would. In it, Nicole Krenski finds out she is the "bastard princess" of Alaska, which is a big switch for a young woman who is currently employed as a hunting and fishing quide.

This story did get me interested in the other books in the series, but I hope to read all of the books by her that I can find. Sep 26, Jane Stewart rated it did not like it Shelves: I rushed the reading as much as possible to get it over with. A reviewer for Romantic Times described the book as follows. Nicole's mother had died of cancer and Nicole took care of her before she died. Christina asked "you took care of her? It irritated and annoyed me. I don't respect or feel comfortable with these types of people, and I certainly don't find it humorous.

I don't care to read a story about them. In addition, there was no interesting character development other than Nicole being rude to most people. Most of the book consisted of conversation with very little time spent on plot, and what plot there was was too simple. The plot for the first 76 pages of the book consisted of the family's attempts to get Nicole to submit to a DNA blood test. Not much time was spent on Jeffrey, the male protagonist. The description of him on the back cover almost told me more than the book did about him. I would have liked to have seen more of him and less of the rude, bratty, food throwing family members.

I imagine there are some readers who would find this book funny, but not me. Number of sex scenes: If you've read and enjoyed the first two, this one will also be a fun read. If you are familiar with the Betsy Vampire books, this story is similar in tone but without the supernatural angle. The story is fun, because it involves the "what if And this really, really hot guy lives to protect you.

Davidson does spend some time examining Nicole's conflicted feelings about abandoning the memory of her dead mother for life with her new family, but on the whole this is a light story. As other readers have remarked, there is a lot of swearing involved, most of it falling into the category of a character blustering. If you find swearing offensive, this story will not be for you. However, if you are comfortable with the language and like Davidson's other works you will like this one. As a side note, if you want to read something of Davidson's that is in her "style" but deals with a bit weightier subject you may want to try "Me, Myself and Why".

Aug 06, Amelia-Irene rated it really liked it. This is the last or next to last book in a series, I can't say for sure as I ran into this book by accident. Nicole's mother has just died and her last request was for Nicole to write to her biological father of that fact. Up to this point Nicole has never known who is was.

She write the letter and then the "fun" begins. I really had to laugh on this one and think that Nicole really could really roll wit This is the last or next to last book in a series, I can't say for sure as I ran into this book by accident. I really had to laugh on this one and think that Nicole really could really roll with the punches that life then throws at her. Her father is the King of Alaska, and she has half siblings to get to know and as the acknowledged OLDEST daughter of the King, Nicole now becomes the next in line for the throne - a role she definitely does not want.

Aug 16, Juniper Shore rated it liked it Shelves: This one hangs together better than the previous two entries in the series. The humor is the same, the romance is slightly more believable, and the main character is more interesting than either Christina or Alex. In her afterword the author states that this will be the last book in the series, which is probably a good choice. Go out on a high note, after all. I recommend the Alaskan Royal Family books for their humor, not their love affairs. They're quick, easy reads that don't require much thought. No, they're not classics, and the sheer amount of profanity and sex can be tiresome, but they're good for a laugh. Feb 08, Ellyn rated it liked it. I liked the third and purportedly final book in Davidson's Alaskan royalty series.

In this alternative reality where Alaska is a country all its own King Al finds out that he has another child in the illegitimate Nicole Krenski. Nicole is reluctant to join the royal family but soon finds herself falling for her bodyguard Jeffrey. Davidson's books are always light and fluffy and so short and fast that your gasping for breath by the end of it. Nicole is the usual Davidson heroine--a variation I liked the third and purportedly final book in Davidson's Alaskan royalty series.

"Sofia the First" A Royal Mess (TV Episode ) - IMDb

Nicole is the usual Davidson heroine--a variation on the foul-mouthed and shallow Betsy Taylor from her undead series. I'm kind of tired of how redundant her books have gotten but I'm glad I read this one as it was better than the second book in the trilogy. I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway. I was torn between 2 stars and 3 stars I'd really like to give it 2. The story had a cute and quirky concept, but I felt it was poorly delivered.

The characters fell flat and were way over the top. I was expecting this book to be funny and a bit crass, but it just fell short of the mark. The concept of Alaska being its own country and run by inappropriate royals sounded like fun I understand that this is a part I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway. I understand that this is a part of a trilogy, so maybe it would've helped if I read the first two books. Unfortunately, this just wasn't as good as I hoped it would be.

There were spots of humor, but the rest of the story just felt forced. Jan 15, Sarah Crawford rated it really liked it. This is another book in the series which deals with an alternative history, one where Alaska did not become a U. A country with a King the Queen is dead , and a whole bunch of Princesses and Princess. Who are all pretty much bonkers. In this book in the series, it's revealed that, before the King had gotten married, he had fathered a child by another woman.

That's Nicole, a young woman used to being on her own who runs fishing and hunting trips. And who now has to adjust to the life in the totally bonkers palace.

This is a thoroughly delightful, hilarious funny book, well worth reading. Jul 07, Kjersti rated it it was ok Shelves: The concept of Alaska as a country is interesting and the plot element certainly could make a good book, but it was surprisingly quite boring. Way too much dialogue and a lot of crude language that does not help make a plot.

Nothing wrong with a happy sappy book, I guess, but it seriously is way too over the top with everyone being okay with whatever goes on and no one ever seeming to really have any emotions. I know it is probably stereotypical and romance novels maybe can have an actual plot, The concept of Alaska as a country is interesting and the plot element certainly could make a good book, but it was surprisingly quite boring.

I know it is probably stereotypical and romance novels maybe can have an actual plot, but this book exactly represents why I have always avoided the romance genre. I received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads.

May 06, Jennifer rated it really liked it Shelves: Finishing up the trilogy What impressed me: I loved revisiting with the family and all their kooky ways. The Alaskan Royal family series is awesome with alternative history details and great humor, and The Royal Mess absolutely follows the trend. The Royal Mess isn't the end of the trilogy as much as a companion novel to the two previous books.

It was disappointing to read about a romance between a new couple as opposed to someone already in the family. Yes, but you may want to read the previous two books first to really experience the details. Sep 26, Diana rated it liked it Shelves: Nicole discovers she is the illegitimate daughter of the Alaskan king from her dying mother and contacts him to satisfy her. However, she is not eager to join this raucous family, although her sexy new bodyguard Jefrey certainly isn't difficult to take in. This was a whirlwind book, and not necessarily in a good way.

It seems that things are rushing along--the whole book takes about a week! It simply feels incomplete, although it still can be enjoyable.

Nicole is a less likable version of Christi Nicole discovers she is the illegitimate daughter of the Alaskan king from her dying mother and contacts him to satisfy her. Nicole is a less likable version of Christina who has also become more shrew-like who can't make up her damn mind about what she wants. Oct 14, Sarah rated it really liked it. The Dragon, I can't stand the Dragon. She irritates the hell out of me. Two, I didn't want to know about Prince Nicky. It was one thing to speculate and quite another to have it confirmed. It is very sad to think my favorite royal will not have his own book. But all in all it was good for a few hours diversion. May 30, Denise rated it really liked it. I didn't enjoy this book as much as I enjoyed The Royal Treatment, but it was still extremely funny.

The dialog was so quotable that even my husband enjoyed parts of it. It was an odd story for me in general as everything seemed to line up too quickly and was wrapped almost too nicely at the end. It was a lovely way to spend a few hours of my day. Another great book in a series that I will be sad to see the end of. We continue in the series with Nicole who writes a letter to the king explaining that she is his daughter.

I loved that we had lots of the funny comments that made the first two books great. I liked reading about Nicole and Jeffrey as they fell for each other. I did not enjoy it as much as the first two books but it was still a good read even as a re-read xxx.
