Editorial Reviews From Publishers Weekly If, as its publisher claims, this was chosen by a London newspaper as one of the best British novels of , then British fiction is not in very good shape. It's not a terrible book; simply a tired and rather crude comedy of a group of upwardly mobile Londoners that never lives up to its zingy first line: Several of these people meet on holiday in Spain and become, rather improbably, best friends; the rest of the book is taken up with their various economic ups and downs.
There's a lot of financial expertise, much of it devoted to tax-dodging, some dirty talk but little actual sex and a decidedly sappy happily-ever-after windup. The message that comes across most clearly is that Britons don't much care for their homeland. Copyright Reed Business Information, Inc. Guy Bellamy was born in Bristol but has lived mostly in Surrey. He is married with a daughter and now lives in Hampshire. This mini-documentary chronicles two days, exactly one year apart: February 1, when San Francisco's ban on public nudity went into effect and the first. The Nudists has ratings and 4 reviews. Wendy said: This was quite amusing but a bit predictable. It would be a diverting book to take on holiday, eas.
Sharp wit, good fun read, and colourful characters. An easy too read literary escape. Another good one by Guy Bellamy. The fourth novel has Bellamy's now-standard ingredients, with one prominent exception - comedy.
Alexa Actionable Analytics for the Web. Excellent characters and some brilliant one-liners. This book was sad trash - not reccomeneded. It would be a diverting book to take on holiday, easy to read, story moves well, and a satisfactory conclusion. The sea is warm, the sky is blue and life is good — or is it?
The narrative embraces two badly troubled marriages. Three of the five principals are fairly unlikeable. There is also a death which occurs in the most appalling circumstances. The novel contains a suspiciously happy ending - the two marriages become much less troubled and the three unlikeables become rather more pleasant.
It's written in Bellamy's characteristic light-hearted style and is an easy read, but I'm curious as to his intentions. Was this a deliberate move away from comedy although there are some amusing lines or was it simply a misjudgement? Absolutely wonderful book - its fantastic. Read it so many times - but it didn't have a real ending - so I ended up writing to Guy to ask him if he was going to write a sequal - unfortunately he hasn't - what a shame - but I still treasure my signed copy.
I love it - so much so - I'm going to Menorca in September to try and find the places he wrote about - but I'm definitely going to Fornells! Actually reading it again at the moment - but they haven't reached Spain for the second time. It must be something to do with the really warm weather! Rob Douglas indianriver cwdom. I've re-read this book nearly , what, a times? Guy Bellamy is maybe the only author I know that can make you laugh out loud at the desparately sorry state some people find themselves in. A beautifully weaved and funny The Nudists by Guy Bellamy. It is a lazy summer of beach umbrellas and blistering heat.

And surprises of a less pleasant nature are in store for young advertising millionaire Ben Brock when the pharmaceuticals market begins to shrink. When the three parties find themselves together on a vacation to remember, all is revealed, and their crossed destinies become further entwined, for better, for worse, both richer and poorer. In this masterful comic invention, displaying all his pungent wit and subtle venom so characteristic of his earlier novels, Guy Bellamy strips the veneer off life in the last quarter of the twentieth century and, once again, succeeds brilliantly.

It would be a diverting book to take on holiday, easy to read, story moves well, and a satisfactory conclusion. It is the sort of book I'll probably forget what I've read in it. Jul 19, Gareth Evans rated it really liked it. A difficult book to classify.
Having said that I found this an engaging, amusing if rather insubstantial read. Been a bit mean with this, should be a two and a half really probably. Very undemanding, predictable and full of male fantasy.
Why on earth Bellamy is so obsessed with penis size you can only guess!
