It goes fairly well. The only problem is that he listens more to Felix th This book is fabulous. This book is just as wonderful as the first one. When they first met, Lane was a grumpy, gruff man learning to cope with his lost eyesight. In Felix, he found the light in his darkness. He might have found it difficult to keep up with Felix. No, they are hilarious. Lane is catching up fast, and he gives as much as he gets. I loved the joking and teasing between Felix and Lane.

Their banter and the situations they get in are so funny I was grinning the whole time.

Shining through all the laughs, sexual innuendos, and crazy insults is the heartwarming love they have for each other. They are so in sync with each other, they know what the other one will say before it is being said. They go through hell and back for one another. It is not only the dynamics between the two guys that are humorous. But family is family, and Felix has a helping streak a mile wide. What follows is a roller coaster ride of surprising actions and events. Nothing is as it seems, and even amidst all the challenges Felix and Lane are facing, they keep up the quips.

But brace yourself for the unexpected. I just want to say it left me breathless. So you will have to read for yourself. This is the second book in the In Darkness series. As there are recurring characters and an ongoing storyline, I recommend reading the books in order so that you can get a better understanding of everything and everyone.

Apr 27, Xanthe rated it really liked it. So, I love the first book! The snark, emotion and action involved throughout. This one was a little harder for me to fall into Felix and Lane are getting back into life after the events of book 1. We start off with them living with Lane's parents whilst trying to find somewhere to live to start their life together as a couple. Felix still has his attitude and humor with pretty much every sentence he speaks but it comes across a lot as though it's covering for other feelings or actions he has.

Lan So, I love the first book! Lane is going along with life but it's easy to see that it's hard to settle to the slower life for him after being an officer for so long. I do love the relationship and interaction between the MC's. It's clear they love each other and care a lot about what's going on with in the other's life.

See a Problem?

We get to meet and interact with Lane's family who are hilarious and very important in the roles they have with the story and supporting of the MC's. Copper is, of course, the best and even gets to take on a larger role in Lane's life this time! We get hints of mystery through the first half of the book but it's only really in the second half that it gets going.

Felix's brother makes an appearance and then continues to frustrate and anger both men for a large part of the book. The bad guy was very villainous and was surprising as to the revealing of who it was. Whilst this one did take a while to gain traction I'm still happy to have read it and would recommend it. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review. May 28, Courtney rated it it was amazing Shelves: A fun sequel - 4.

I hope there are more! Jun 02, Vickie rated it it was amazing Shelves: I was so pleased that the humor, sarcasm and banter continued into the next book, and in some respects got even better. I loved getting to know Lane's family, getting to know a little more about Felix's past, and LOVED the progression their relationship has taken in this one. I absolutely love this series and can't wait for their next adventure!!!!!!! View all 4 comments. Jul 03, Lelyana rated it liked it Shelves: I loved the first book.

Piercing The Darkness Part II

But apparently stupidity is contagious, and Lane has become as stupid as Felix. They gotten in my nerves, for making so many mistakes and stupid decisions. I thought Lane could make Felix a 'little better', but I think maybe that's why Lane loves him. Felix loved to be needed, and Lane loved being needed.

Yeah, they're made for each other. The banters are still funny and refreshing. Especially when it comes to Felix wanted to take over Lane's family. Honestly, I d I loved the first book. Honestly, I don't care about Felix's brother the idiot. And I'll still be reading their next adventure, maybe, maybe Felix will slow down a little bit.

For instance, why would a plan to turn all humans into vampires be a good thing for the existing vampires since they need to feed on human blood? Jul 26, David L Magginetti rated it it was amazing. Anyway, so Ember is on the run and steering clear of humans as well as all sorts of Fae. It's a really good story, that you can totally sink yourself in to! To feel the tightness in my chest.

I loved Lane, even though he's too enamored by Felix. Sep 02, Sali Mes rated it really liked it Shelves: Can't be read as a standalone. I didn't love it as much as 1 but still a great book. The guys are going strong, fiercely in love with each other, still the same humor and complicity. I'm not a fan of Felix's brother. I'm not a fan of how Felix acted toward him and let him break his trust again and again, but he loves him and I can understand that. Jun 12, Ayla rated it it was amazing Shelves: Great second book to this series! This book was hilarious just like book one.

It was definitely suspenseful at times and kept me interested till the end. I really want more of these guys! Jun 17, AussieMum added it Shelves: This started off with the same vibe but I'm not wowed by where the plot is going because I don't care enough about some of the secondary characters. This was one hell of a crazy, genre-bending, hilarious ride! Jun 05, felix rated it it was ok. Meh This book is a prime example that some good books should not have sequels.

I loved Felix in the first book but in this second installment he is reduced from a sassy and witty character to an annoying prick who takes advantage of Lane's blindness, and that whole "let's make hime jealous" actitude was just disgusting. Now Lane I also liked a lot, here he just becomes a wimpy enabler incapable of stopping felix's reckless behaviour. The plot line was just ridiculous and dragged a lot. May 05, Samantha Ortega rated it really liked it. Une FR- Alors alors A chaque fois on se dit qu'il a atteint ses limites mais non.

ENG- So well well well I was really happy to meet Felix and Lane and I can tell you that they really did not disappoint me. What a pleasure to read the way they kept teasing each other and the crazy humor of these novels. Once again, the action and suspense lead the game in this second volume and if the relationship between Felix and Lane has reached its cruising speed we do not get bored for a moment with these two.

I really liked the plot of this novel and the author really takes us very far with the characters. I really liked Felix's self-denial of his brother Damian. Each time you guess he has reached his limits but no. If at the beginning of Volume 1 I almost hated him, he is now a character that I love. I did not talk to you about sex scenes that, if they are not very present, are simply hot! I really liked the "detective" side of this series and this volume is no exception to the rule. It was original and really well done and I liked every page of this novel.

A faultless for the author and I sincerely hope that we will see the characters soon! The second book picks up a short while after the first book ends and follows Lane and Felix as they adjust to their new normal after their move to California. I found the banter between Felix and Lane more entertaining and balanced as well. While there were a number of elements that seemed more natural in the second book than the first, what I really loved was the relationship balance that emerged. I thought Felix and Lane made a fun, cute couple in the first book.

However, in A Light in the Darkness, their relationship evened out and the author highlighted the deep connection these men share. Their chemistry and love was palpable, making the romance that much sweeter. In fact, I found this mystery more intriguing in some ways, especially given the unique ending. After finishing A Light in the Darkness, there is no doubt that I will be following this author and seeing what she offers up next.

Apr 27, Amy Dufera rated it it was amazing. Could not stop laughing! Felix and Lane are two of the funniest people ever. It was a pleasure to read their antics. And their banter was just the most funny, loving, natural, non-stop banter I have ever had the pleasure of reading. And Lane's family is just as great. I was laughing like crazy and smiling throughout.

And they have to deal with Felix's brother, Dar Could not stop laughing! And they have to deal with Felix's brother, Darian, who wants to see him again. Felix doesn't trust Darian, but goes and meets up with him. The path they are taken on because of Darian is crazy, scary, and a complete and utter roller-coaster. Honestly, I found this mystery a little weird. Well, more than a little weird.

But, it is still a keep-you-on-your-toes mystery, as you never really know for sure what is happening and what will happen. But, even through the life and death situations, they keep their humor. I cannot rave even about the writing style in this book. Not everyone can infuse so much humor ALL throughout a story. And I will be re-reading this book many, many times just because they are so damn lovable and funny.

Welcome to the Dark Side

Apr 23, Lisa rated it it was amazing Shelves: These two crack me up. From the minute I started reading I cannot get enough. Your kept on the edge of your seat from start to finish. Felix is hilarious he is smart and witty a filthy mouth and the things he says just cracks me up. Bottoms can come in any shape and size. This is like modern day gay murder mystery without the murder sort of but lots to keep you on the edge of your seat to keep you guessing right to the end.

When the situation with Lane's brother heats up, things start to happen much more quickly with a lot of action and a mystery they are trying to get a grip on. It is an exciting read, with the right amount of action, danger, lovely-dovey moments and plenty of humor I love how funny these guys are. I really hope the author gives us more Felix and Lane, and maybe introduce more characters that can have their own books too. Apr 27, Sarita Chapdelaine rated it it was amazing Shelves: This book is hilarious and I was shocked to find myself laughing all the way through it even when Felix and Lane are in life-threatening danger they still are funny as hell.

It is beautifully written with fabulous characters and spine tingling suspense. There are so many great things about this book: The twists and turns in the plot as Felix and Lane are forced into solving a mystery to save Felix's brother and themselves are incredible. I love a good mystery and this is an excellent one. I am always eager and excited to read a new vampire story. They are my first love in the paranormal realm and I find that people just don't write enough great vampire stories. They were left behind for shifters of every design, and other brave new supernatural worlds.

As a whole, this story boasted a very 80's feel to its vampire world. I only say this because I felt like the author pulled from a few of their favorite vampire worlds, the vampire 'queen' was a young girl with tight blonde curls and blue eyes, and she was very ruthless. Can we say vampire claudia. As much as this story was dark, it was almost very campy at moments which brought me right back into the story and made me appreciate it in the same way I do The Lost Boys.

It very much took from a subtle vibe from that time of the vampire, it could be just me, but that's how I felt. The characters I went in and out of feeling anything for them. I struggled with empathy towards them because they very selfish moments and also unfeeling moments that made me turn my head and hope people died, which is never a good thing. As a whole, I have to commend the authors efforts with this story. They took a chance and created something unique in a world full of sparkly vampires and I have to respect that. They were legit baddies and that makes me smile.

May 02, Lindsay rated it liked it Shelves: In this case, Darkness Reigns was a solid middle book. Its plot was largely self contained, but by no means standalone. Justus did a great job recapping the previous plot, without completely beating me over the head with it. The POV is the hardest thing to get used to. It did throw me off a few times, but at least I knew what to expect. The group of characters was definitely more solid in this second book.

There were a couple new ones, but mostly I was already on board with this bizarre crew. And, just as with the first book, the second half of the story was a lot stronger. It took a few chapters to get me hooked, but by the end of it, I was entirely worked up for the next book in the series. Instead, it became a survival story, as the group tries to outrun an ancient vampire hell bent on revenge. It did give the story its own voice, as the characters have a new quest. I just feel like there is more to learn about what happened in New York.

A copy of this book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. I've read the first book in the Darkness Trilogy — Welcome to the Darkness, and really enjoyed it. Now that I've read the sequel Darkness Reigns, I'll have to say that between the two I've read so far, this one edges out Welcome to the Darkness as the one I liked better. While the first book does introduce the main characters — Sarah, Reed, and Nathaniel, this second book goes into more character development.

Of the three, I'll say that Nathaniel is probably my favorite, and that was true from the first book as well. Even so, this is a series that I've grown to really like all three main characters, and as a reader, I care about what happens to them as characters.

I think of the three, the two that showed the most development in this book were Sarah and Nathaniel. One of the things I really liked about this book along with the first is the structure of the book is set up so that we have triple perspectives of the events that unfold over the course of the novel. Each chapter is from the point of view of one of the three, either Reed, Sarah, or Nathaniel. This allowed me to really know what was going on in their minds, and to know what they were thinking and feeling and how they saw the events that were unfolding.

As far as the book itself, it picks up right where the first one left off when they were in New York City. What I can say is that while there was enough explanation as to what happens in the first novel, I recommend reading that one first simply because it sets up the characters and probably will make this second book make more sense. I'm really looking forward to reading the conclusion to this trilogy, and I recommend this series to readers who like vampire novels, young adult fiction, and some paranormal romance as well.

Mar 26, Michelle rated it it was amazing Shelves: Stay tuned for review during blog tour! Jun 11, Sarah rated it liked it. This time the action moves away from New York to Montreal as the gang attempt to leave behind the devastation caused by the vampire King of New York. I certainly found this book better than the first but still felt that there was more plot and character development needed. Once again I found myself distrusting the motives of key characters, such as the King of Montreal and hoped there was more betrayal than what was eventually offered.

As Reed gets used to being a vampire, it is clear that he still desires to be human again and this is what sets readers up for the final book in the trilogy. This book was given another three stars because there was still opportunity for plot development. But, from an adult perspective, I think this was an average read and good for a lazy afternoon. This book was provided to me by the author in exchange for an honest review. Jun 14, Lelia Taylor rated it liked it Shelves: Reed and Nathaniel face even more difficulties as their vampire backs sport great big targets.

Unfortunately for this little band, many of the survivors out there are no more trustworthy than the hybrids. This is where I think Darkness Reigns slips just a little 3. This is where I think Darkness Reigns slips just a little bit. I started feeling uneasy about it in the first book and its credibility slides even more in Darkness Reigns with the problem lying in their ages.

Putting all that aside, I still think this book is quite entertaining and I do appreciate that there are more twists and turns than in the first book. The three of them become 5 when Sophie Sarah's sister and Trudy vampire hunter joins them. They leave New York and head to Montreal where most of the second book is based.

Running from authorities and the queen who is continuously hunting the rat tag crew down they find themselves in the protection of the Montreal King. In the end, he betrays them in ways they didn't see coming.

At times I did find myself wondering why the book wasn't focused on the virus book 1 however I found myself enjoying this book a lot in the second half because it was more action packed and the characters tended to show more emotion, especially Nathaniel who is my favourite in the series. All in all a great read. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens in book 3 where the rag tag crew have set out on yet another adventure which I'm sure will bring more drama and action.
