It's a great book.

You have to read My side of the mountain first. I'm homeshcooled so I have to read a book that they pick for the book club. This month's was my side of the mountain.

Because my mom is friends with the librarian we got the companion. At first both of the books were just laying around for like a week. Then my mom told me I had to get cracking so I read both of them, I will have a rating for my side of the mountain, but right now we are talking about the companion. I learnd a LOT It's a great book.

I am a very outdoorsy person, and I also read the book that this is based on and really enjoyed it. This book is great if you will be camping, hiking, backpacking, or just like to learn about living in the wilderness. I enjoyed this book very much, it fit me as a person.

About Jean Craighead George. Most of her books deal with topics related to the environment and the natural world. While she mostly wrote children's fiction, she also wrote at least two guides to cooking with wild foods, and an autobiography, Journey Jean Craighead George wrote over eighty popular books for young adults, including the Newbery Medal-winning Julie of the Wolves and the Newbery Honor book My Side of the Mountain.

Less then 3 weeks later he had finished the entire set: So if you have a kid that you want to get into reading that likes the out doors this is the book set for them! I am going to barrow it to re read it because it has been a few years. I read this book aloud to my children.

They absolutely loved it, and so did I. George obviously enjoyed exploring all of the survival concepts she could think of, and she did a fine job telling the "story" of the possibilities in each situation. This is a teaching book, which is why it will always be a classic. It not only teaches survival concepts, but also responsibility and courageous stewardship.

Although this book is intended for young adults, I decided to get it even though I'm in my 50s. I'd read it when I was young and really enjoyed it. I kind of half expected to be disappointed This book, however, was still good. Some parts were a little, "Oh, yeah, right," but was mostly realistic. Would recommend it to anyone of any age. This is one of my favorite children's books.

It is a throwback to a different time when vocabulary was rich and peppered the pages of children's literature. It is an excellent story of man and nature and ever so readable. Share with them a time when education was vastly more important and appreciated than today.

I first read this book at school as an 8 year old. I never forgot the book "My side of the Mountain" or the name of the author. I still have my original copy, and to see it here for sale I had to have it. This book triggers the imagination, It boldly explores a boys desire for being in touch with nature and a simple life. This is a book everyone should read. If you have boys between six and ten, you can't go wrong with this book. My boys are six and I took great pleasure in reading it to them.

When my boys are ten, I have no doubt they'll take great pleasure reading it themselves. Lots of terrifi descriptions about something every young kid thinks about at least once running away. Very, very well imagined and executed. This was my favorite book as a child! My second grade teacher read this to us as part of reading class. To this day i can't understand why my teacher was so angry when i admitted this to her. Anyway, i bought this to read it to my granddaughter, and i hope she enjoys it as much as i did. I read My Side of the Mountain when I was in junior high school, and I wanted to get this book for my son.

I read it before I gave it to him, and I couldn't put it down. Each night I read one of the the trilogy and I remembered why I loved it so much as a kid. My son is in 2nd grade and now he is reading it too.

He is young, but reads non stop so a novel isn't too much for him. I am so glad I finally own this book, it's a great book to turn kids onto reading, and it is a great book for all ages.
