This story may be about a tiny house, but it has an enormous heart. Photographs images by the great Swiss photographer Werner Bischof allow an overview of the stories and journeys of one of the reference points of the Magnum Photos agency. On show until October 1st, Zeus tries to keep his distance, but like a moth to a flame he can no longer deny he needs her in his life. My heart is battered and bruised, but it's in a fulfilling way that only can be explained by reading the story itself. Also, when checking out, they told me the invoice for the hotel stay will come via e-mail, but I have not yet received it, will check again. I shoulda ordered more

I've read other reviews that were concerned about the amount of deceptive behavior on the part of the main character, Lou. I really felt this behavior was out of desperation and not her typical behavior.

She is an overall good kid. As a typical tween she is wonderfully emotional, distraught when she finds out she may have to move and even more terrified at the thought of possibly losing the last connection to her father, who died before she was born. It is a sweet heartwarming story that elegantly laces in culture and family. The House That Lou Built by Mae Respicio is a wonderful, sweet, inspirational story of family, friendship, cultural pride, and the meaning of home. Lou is such a strong, determined girl, and her loving Filipino family is a beautiful example of unconditional love.

I enjoyed learning about Filipino language, foods, and traditions as well! I highly recommend this fabulous story! I read The House That Lou Built because I worked with Mae Respicio for years, and witnessed first hand her dedication to the art and craft of writing, to her family, and to her culture. Now I can say that I know Mae Respicio the novelist--a wonderful novelist--whose lively teenage heroine Lou has a big dream rooted in familial bonds, tradition, and a deep sense of place. Plus there's a grandma to die for! This book entertains and enlightens; it says "yes" to girl power and "yes" to the power of love.

One person found this helpful. I loved the positive messages for girls in this book. Lou isn't interested in painting her nails and Snapchatting her friends--she likes woodworking, architecture, and construction and why shouldn't a girl feel passionate about these things in ? It was such a pleasure to ask myself, along with Lou, what makes a house a home. A wonderful and life-affirming debut.

Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. This book tells of the perseverance of a young girl living within two cultures and dealing with loss. Middle grade students will find Lou a very like-able and relate-able character who does things they wish they could do and get away with it-sort of. It also shows how living within two cultures is wonderful yet at times can be challenging.

I am buying this for my granddaughters.

What a great book for the entire family. I read the story with my daughter who connected with Lou as a young girl with a creative and adventurous spirit. Lou's desire to remain close to her extended family and those she loves is heart warming, and reminded us of how important we are to each other. Lou is a great girl with a lot of heart. Thank you Mae for a wonderful book. Its not often you can find a book that all 3 generations wanted to read.
