The story takes you to Columbia in the beginning to rescue a hostage which you quickly find out is about Logan.
It then returns to ranch of Sarah in Arizona where a big chuck of the story is played out. They finally end up in North Dakota where one of Logan's plants are located, and the story finally ends there. The story does throw in a love intrest for Monty, yes Monty the dog--but not sure how believable that can be as he falls for a wolf? My biggest question next to why this is in the Eve Duncan series is about Bonnie. It states in the beginning of the story that she her bones , were found, verified via DNA, and buried on the hill by the cabin that Eve and Joe have.
I have read some further books in the Eve Duncan series can not remember which ones--maybe you can help me name them , in which Eve is still looking for Bonnie. I know I have missed some books in the series and I am now reading them in order as maybe one of the ones I have missed will explain it to me about Eve still looking for Bonnie. Maybe a goodreads person here can help me on this one. Jul 10, Dawn rated it liked it. Gah, another one I didn't realize was a romance.
Maybe I just need to stick to authors I know. It seems like all these romances stick to a formula. Take a man and woman who hate each other. Put them in a tense, stressful situation where they are forced to share physical space. They have wild sex. The denial falls away and they realize they are Gah, another one I didn't realize was a romance. The denial falls away and they realize they are madly in love. They are reunited, express that love, and live happily ever after.
That being said, this one didn't bother me as much as some others. It was an interesting story, especially the dog and the search and rescue operations. There also weren't any graphic sex scenes. I might pick up this author again at a used book sale, which is where I got this one. Jul 04, Msjodi rated it liked it Shelves: Sorry, not so much what I want. Jun 26, Pam rated it it was amazing. And when the killer's search for revenge finally ends, no one will ever be the same again Jan 02, Kristen rated it liked it Shelves: Iris Johansen is a solid, strong author, and her books can be depended upon for interesting characters, exciting storylines, and lots of suspense and action.
This was no different, and I enjoyed it.
The story tosses you right into the thick of the action from the very first page. Although there are ebbs and flows, the excitement is maintained pretty consistently throughout the entire book. Johansen knows how to write a story that keeps you turning pages, and this one did that for me. I also loved Iris Johansen is a solid, strong author, and her books can be depended upon for interesting characters, exciting storylines, and lots of suspense and action.
I also loved the character of Sarah. Strong female characters always make a book a good read for me, and Sarah is definitely strong, and determined to maintain her independence no matter what, or who tries to protect her. Not only does that make for a good character, the stubbornness makes for a suspensful and engaging read.
I will voice one minor irritant, which is not a complaint about this book, per se, as I've come across this scenario in several books I've read just recently, but just a curmudgeonly observation. How is it that these "average" women seem to constantly be thrown together with these millionares and billionaires?
Even smaller is the likelihood of these millionaires falling head-over-heels for such normal folks. But, as I said, that's not a complaint about this book, just something I've been noticing. Overall, I found this a good light read. Well-written, interesting plot, and characters I can connect to and root for. Once again, Logan is manipulating and deceiving a woman and her dog to get them to do what he wants and putting them into danger.
He's a bit nicer about it here, but why does he keep doing this? This time, Sarah and her dog Monty get roped into working for Logan, who realizes the danger he's put them in and decides to stick around to protect them This w Oh my gosh he's doing it again. This wasn't as bad as previous books. Sarah is somewhat likeable and I guess Eve's treatment of Logan has done him some good because he's not as despicable I still don't like him that much. It's really Monty and the suspense that drive this story.
It's entertainment enough, but I don't think I'm continuing this series if I can help it. I felt lost a bit with some of the history between the characters, I think it should probably be read in order. The overall story was different, Sarah has a connection with her dog that I never completely understood. I would go back and try the first book and see if I can get more into this series.
It took me awhile to get into the book. Jan 27, Eleanor Jethro rated it it was amazing. Irish Johansen has done it again. A great thriller read - very fast moving. The interaction between Sarah, Monty and Logan is very moving. How they all manage to find love int he book is surprising - especially Monty Irish Johansen has done it again. How they all manage to find love int he book is surprising - especially Monty with the wolf Maggie. A must read for anyone that enjoys thrillers Jun 23, Cheryl rated it it was amazing. I picked this up because of a character in a previous book - Eve Duncan who is a forensic scupter specializing in children.
A different character was followed - Sarah Patrick - who handles a rescue dog. She's one tough lady without a love interest other than her dog. Well, she's got a love interest now. In this story, Logan has pissed off someone who becomes a mass murderer. The story line plays across 3 continents and pulls in Sarah along with bit parts for Eve.

When the nasty of the piece catches sight of Sarah and Monty at work, he promptly adds them to his hit list and Logan realizes his duty to protect Sarah and Monty will stretch the limits of every resource on which he can draw!
The Search is brain candy at its finest and makes no pretense at aspiring to become literature! Johansen has given us a fine story - a strong female character; a strong male character; conflict between the two that allows each of their characters full rein; a romance that develops realistically without falling into the trap of being overwrought or silly; a psychopathic villain whose nastiness knows no bounds; love of animals my wife would say that any story with "paws" is OK with her!
Two thumbs up for a thoroughly enjoyable thriller! I'll be looking for Johansen's next story to see where she takes the tale of Logan and Patrick's romance.

It's also another revolving shelf book I borrowed, so I figured I'd continue the series, because the story lines aren't too bad. I just wish Ms. For example, Logan pulls out an automatic weapon in the jungles of South America and that's Sarah's response? No, she wasn't turned on.
It's not every day you see a billionaire business man pull out a military grade weapon. At least there were less such instances. I have no problem with the word I'll spare using it for the misophonics here, just the idiotic context; I get that she was a romance writer, but at least her editors are catching on. Feb 14, Kyson McArthur rated it it was amazing Shelves: This was my first Iris Johansen novel, and I loved it.
My super cool therapist Grandmother gave me this book a while back and told me that it was a super good book, with tons of emotional tugs and hooks. I never realized this book was part of a whole series, with all different perspectives on characters, I did feel that this book can and does portray a great story and can be read separately from the rest of the stories. The high intensity thrill moments of this book really shows you how a real r This was my first Iris Johansen novel, and I loved it. The high intensity thrill moments of this book really shows you how a real rescue dog and owner get to go encounter in their daily life's you can put yourself inside of theses characters really well, which I really liked, being a young adult trying to discover what I would like to do with my life, this book has given me just the littlest of incites of what it could be like if I became some sort of rescue agent.
This book has tons of well researched subjects, I find myself watching a lot of Netflix in the late hours of the night and I mainly watch the criminal mystery shows like Criminal Minds and NCIS, and after watching those shows for hours on end and then ending my day with this book, I could see some of the topics would transfer over, the psychological factors of both or a more specific example is the small fact of how dogs smell, which I found really interesting, as I have a golden retriever myself and now wonder what goes on in her mind every time she looks at me.
I really enjoyed this book and recommend others to read more books like this. Aug 10, Mandy rated it liked it. Okay, I admit it I actually liked this one. True, it contained all the hallmarks of an Iris Johansen novel: Strong Female Character, creepy, rapey love interest, obnoxious, one-word sentences and a dog who communicates telepathically using only those kinds of sentences , "His lips twisted," "She stiffened," etc. We also get to see Jane be her obnoxious, bratty self. There's also the fact that John Logan, from the very beginning, is one of the most infuriating love interests I've ever seen.
He o Okay, I admit it He outright kidnaps Sarah Douglas, using a senator who's manipulating her to force her to cooperate. I was furious about this, because I knew she'd end up sleeping with him. I was fully prepared to hate this book. I didn't hate it. In fact, for the most part, I enjoyed reading it. This was published in , and I've heard from some people that Johansen's earlier books in the Eve Duncan series are better, but I've read both "The Killing Game" which precedes this book in the series and "Body of Lies" which follows it , and I didn't like either of them.
Maybe it's because I hated Jane in the former, and Joe in the latter, and both characters were mostly absent in this one. But, no, that's not fair. I actually thought this was a good story, which you will almost never hear me say about one of Johansen's books. She had an interesting idea for a villain, and the mystery of John's late wife, Chen Li, kept me curious and wanting to see what her story was. I am curious, though. John said that he met Chen Li in Japan.
Does Johansen think "Chen Li" is a Japanese name? I mean, I don't think Iris Jo is that dense, but I know there are plenty of people who pull that "all Asian languages sound the same" crap. So, what else was different about this book? Johansen is actually fairly good at suspense, but this time I actually felt it.
I could feel the sense of urgency every time Sarah began to search for someone or something. I was also pulled in to the emotions of the characters in the story, which is something new for her books. The whole scene at the village of Kai Chi was actually very touching, and felt far more real to me than most of Johansen's other attempts at emotional scenes. That said, I did find the descriptions of Monty's emotions to be annoying. Johansen has this habit of describing psychic connections with sentence fragments, and it's super obnoxious.
It's especially bad with Monty, because he only uses a single word each time, and he tends to repeat it, like this: Sarah reacts to what he said. Sarah says something to him. Sarah says something else to him. Another weird thing about Monty is that, halfway through the book, he falls in love with a wolf.
John jokes that maybe this is going to be a one-night stand, and Sarah's like, "Monty's not like that. Dogs don't have any concept of romance, Johansen.
