Working Dog (A collection of poems from a Wiltshire driven shoot Book 3)

He has this delicious ability to make it so easy to sink into any scene, especially between these two guys. I had no choice but to surrender, so I did, with pleasure and great relish. All of the back and forth, the successes and failures, the progress and loss all feels very natural, never trite or false. This was an engaging and unforgettable reading experience. Anytime I was away from the book, Nik and Ben forced me to miss them. To say they were put through the gnarliest of ringers would just about cover it. At this point, though, more often the external forces were to blame than anything internal, between them.

Finally, I have an official announcement: View all 6 comments. The first story first half of the book takes place in Russia, in the middle of nowhere when they end up stranded with a, let's say, "colorful" bunch of people. We must pack up and go now. Holy shit, what these guys are going thro. Holy shit, what these guys are going through! Throughout the whole ordeal I was pretty much: And the number five is the important thing here too, people! Interacting with them he finds what he has been missing, but also what he's already got. I'm not saying anymore to spoil it, I'm silent as the grave I didn't care so much for this part.

I didn't find it particularly interesting, I'm afraid. It was a bit obvious what kind of shit was going down, even if I didn't know the details of it. I guessed what happened with Ben, so I was kinda waiting for Nik and the rest to see the light of day. Loved what the name change meant for Ben and Nik, though! View all 5 comments. Feb 26, Simone rated it it was amazing Shelves: I knew from the beginning, that Nik and Ben boarding a plane to Siberia would be a bad idea and I was right. If the book would've been a movie, I would've been sitting with a hand over my eyes and peeking through my fingers, because the tension was so palpable, I just knew something bad would happen.

However, my eyes were glued to my Kindle and I could hardly put it down, even if I had to swallow sometimes and hardly slept a wink all night. Some scenes were just creepy as hell After surviving the Siberian taiga, there was a short time to recover for Nik and Ben and me, too! The second half of this book was about Ben, who has to come to terms with the fact that he has a family now. No, actually, both, Nik and Ben, had to come to terms with this fact.

Ben tests his newfound freedom and independence, which causes a sort of a rift in their relationship and there are doubts on both sides about where they stand. Nevertheless, the second half was no less exciting and action-packed than the first one, with Ben's more than creepy family and it had me once more on the edge of my seat and biting my nails.

I know, I'm repeating myself here, but I love this series! The third book is no exception, if anything, it's the best and my favorite so far. View all 8 comments. Aug 30, Em rated it it was amazing Shelves: This series is absolutely one in a million and I'm so thankful that I found it. I've been desperate to get my teeth into another great series for the last couple of years and thank God I've finally found one!

This book is broken into two parts, both equally as traumatic, though the first book was truly brutal and difficult to read at times. I made it though! Nikolas, Ben reflected, had a tendency to live his life entirely in his own head, planning, organising. Then, when it suited him to announc This series is absolutely one in a million and I'm so thankful that I found it. Then, when it suited him to announce his decisions, he did, leaving no room for compromise or discussion.

I'm not sure if it's love or obsession but there is nothing straightforward about the relationship between Nik and Ben. After all the hardship they've faced and the nightmare situations they've been through and survived they just keep on getting stronger. They wanted to take what was his? They had no idea who they were dealing with.

Apr 21, Christelle rated it really liked it Shelves: Thank you, Ariana, for gifting me these three instalments of this series. And now, up to me to keep going on…not gonna be an issue, because yes, Nick and Ben can produce "more heat than the sun"!! View all 15 comments. I really was taking a break after this one I think that, more than anything says how much I enjoyed this book and since I have every intention of starting my Christmas reading marathon on December 1st and I have 4 books left in this series.

I'm not even sure if this is possible but I'm going to take a shot at reading them all by December 1st. So wish me luck. This also mean I really was taking a break after this one This also means that the reviews are going to be brief. In a nutshell I loved this book the first half of the story had me sitting on the edge of my seat it was awesome and gut wrenching and nail biting.

I thought the second half was going to loose me. It just wasn't holding my attention like the first half was and then WHAM!!! It nailed me and reeled me in. So at the end loved it, it was incredible and I'm off to read book 4 This Other Country. Which by the way has already had me going 'what the hell' by the end of the first page View all 4 comments.

Nov 24, A. Gayle rated it it was amazing Shelves: Like the previous books in the series, this is a couple of stories rolled into one. The first section sees Ben and Nikolas head off into the Siberian Taiga and, thanks to some dubious choices of fellow passengers and crew, their plane ditches in a lake. Thus begins an incredible tale of survival against ferocious odds.

The pacing and action develops gradually through one harrowing scene after another. Surprises batter your nerves, startling the reader as much as the men themselves. The tension just Like the previous books in the series, this is a couple of stories rolled into one. The tension just builds and builds. Until Emilia is taken.

Rubies and pearls and a price beyond measure. What follows is perhaps the best written action I've ever come across. It's like one of those breathless long uncut scenes in an action movie. You can't pause to take a breath. It is hard enough to stop and turn the page. In your heart, you know our heroes will survive and hopefully Emilia will as well, but at what cost? And you're not even half way through the book yet Jan 16, Sara rated it it was amazing Shelves: I can't really review this.

It's too much to think about. Nikolas was amazing in this, just simply amazing in his steadfast love for his Benjamin. I wanted to smack the shit out of him once they got out of fucking mother Russia but then he surprised me as much as he surprised Nik. This series, these two wonderfully strong and amazing men, their story is epic. It's an epic romance that is slowly killing me. I heard two songs this morning in my car on the way to work and cried off every bit of mascara because the songs felt like Nik and Ben. I came into work and shrugged off all responsibility to finish this.

Nik and Ben, they grew so much in this book. So much in their love and commitment to one another and just so much as men and into their own. Who would think that they could go through so much and just I can't think straight. I want to move on directly to the next book but I am so afraid of what this author is doing to me. Talk about amazing power and control of ones craft. Wiltshire shreds my heart to pieces again and again , I gladly offer it to him on a platter for further mutilation.

I need therapy after this one. I am a mess. View all 3 comments. Part 2, in which Ben inherits the house in Devon left to him by his father was quite tame by comparison after the nail-biting stuff of part 1, and gets 4 stars.

I hated Ben's relatives, freeloaders and wastrels, the lot of them Anyone that has read this series will know that Nikolas in view of his past is quite cold and unemotional, detached and aloof. Quite happy to have sex with Ben here, there and everywhere but less than happy to show his feelings.

I said to Inge that he's a a little like something that's been deep frozen and is thawing ever so slowly, and that's true cos in this part of the story, Ben is forever trying to get Nik to believe that Ben loves him, and well, what happens is 'so it was with a sense of pleasure almost greater than his orgasm that Ben heard Nikolas murmur into the back of his neck, "Ben Rider loves me. Ben and Nik are perfection. Nov 24, Ije the Devourer of Books rated it it was amazing Shelves: What a brilliant book!! John Wiltshire is an excellent writer.

In this story he takes us to the rugged and dangerous wilderness of the Russian Taiga and a race for survival. As is usual in this series, Nikolas in this story reveals another side to himself. He is a survivor. He is also a ruthless hunter and able to overcome situations in which most people would simply die. He shows also a dark, animalistic side to his personality. A side of him that can withstand brutality but also effortlessly use What a brilliant book!! A side of him that can withstand brutality but also effortlessly use brutality to protect the vulnerable.

The story is all the more brilliant in the way it takes the reader into this harsh wilderness to witness unspeakable horrors. We come face to face with the frailty of human life together with the tenacious human will to survive even the most adverse circumstances. And yet in the dark circumstances the love the two men have for each other continues to shine and burns even brighter. The second part of the story shows us circumstances in which another layer is removed from both men as they struggle with near death and near tragedy and come to find an ever deeper and stronger love together.

John Wiltshire has a growing army of adoring readers and it is not surprising. We deserve his excellent books. He deserves his adoring fans. I am very happy to count myself one of them. Thankfully I have a couple more of his books to keep me going until the next release!! I stick to my rating another awesome book.

The beginning of book three takes them to the Siberian taiga and a whole other kind of adventure. The first half of the book takes place in this Russian wilderness— it is harrowing and mesmerizing and it held me breathless and shivering through most of it. These two beautiful lovers are held in the tight grasp of danger, peril, and evil doings.

Living by their wits and not just their pretty lo 4. Living by their wits and not just their pretty looks. Just what I wanted. The story really comes to life when the action picks up; I thought part one was brilliant, my rating was earned mostly here. The second half of the book holds dangers of a whole different type and edges more into soap opera territory.

Where Nik discovers a family he never knew he had. I liked the portrait of upper class privilege and entitlement underlaid with darkness and tension. Loved its effect on Ben and Nik. He makes some questionable choices but they make sense in light of this issue.. And not just all the external threats. That is the addiction.

I love them together, and they are so, so, hot and dirty, so conflicted, and so helplessly in love. But, they live on the edge Again… there is much repetition in some of the descriptive aspects of the story mostly in the physical attributes of our heroes as well as their sexual inclination and dexterity. Still, the author delivers such lovely descriptive passages of place the taiga, the English moors and gets these two in and out of such horrific scrapes while infusing it all with humor and to-die-for sheer romantic squee-inducing feelz… that all must simply be forgiven.

His protagonist characters are Men with a capital M. Book 3 in the series and the plots get better and better. After the Tsunami survival in Book 2, I really believed things could not possibly get any worse for our intrepid heroes. Well, I was wrong. The first half of this book is not for the faint hearted nor the squeamish - be war " The first half of this book is not for the faint hearted nor the squeamish - be warned, but these two characters are ex soldiers and they court disaster, action and adventure.

If I didn't know that there was a Book 4, 5 and now a Book 6 in the pipeline, I'd have been convinced several times during the reading of this novel that Ben Rider's life was at an end. The suspense writing is just fantastic, the love these guys feel for one another is portrayed so realistically and the sex, if that's what floats your boat, is incredibly genuine, masculine, dirty and raw.

We pick up book three right after the events of Conscious Decisions of the Heart, and way literally are going on an adventure in this book. Terrified would be might one word description of the first half 4. Terrified would be might one word description of the first half of the book.

Who goes through things like this? Certain circumstance, he literally put his life on the line. He is such an amazing character who is so intense, and closed off but has this way about him that just draws you in. That was one of my favorite quotes ever in this entire book. Do not make me do it, because this is hurting me more than you. This book definitely became my favorite out the series so far. Second half had me not really liking Ben, but as usual he comes out victorious.

While as Nikolas is this dark angel with a vengeful way about himself; Ben is the total opposite. His heart is one of the reasons why many adore him, and only Nikolas has him. Aug 30, Jackie rated it it was amazing. I deserved something for surviving the first half of this book. My reward was the second half.

In The Beating Line

I'm squeamish and found the first part daunting. It was easily the stuff of nightmares. I may have had a few. Both scary and thrilling in equal parts is that Nikolas will do anything for Ben. This is not a cliche, there is no horror that he will not visit on anyone who is a threat to Ben. The absolute of that is what draws me to this. I can't wait for more. All my GR friends who read it enjoyed it. And when I started the book 3, I was sure I would like it either, also because I thought I was in a proper mood for it. But after a good start it turned into a creepy horror action thriller that I couldn't handle.

And a lot of sex scenes in such an extremely dangerous situation not to mention unhygienic conditions was a turn off for me. Oct 17, Helga rated it really liked it Shelves: First off, I have to admit that I had some apprehension approaching the third part of the series. The reason for that was the mention of a visit to Russia in the blurb - as much as people getting thing hugely wrong about it doesn't really bother me, I prefer not to read about it if given the choice.

In this case I needn't have worried. What I liked most about this book is how well balanced it is. It has just about the right amount of everything: The tension is being built expertly, the plot is used to further develop the relationship and vice versa. The first part is more action driven, the second is less so but it does a great job of promoting the romance to the next level.

There's some relationship angst but it's well-based in the previous history and resolves beautifully. So far, this is my favorite part of the series and I'm quite looking forward to the coming sequel. Okay, I seem to be far less sleepy this time around, so I'll try to elaborate on a few things about this book and the series so far. As I've already mentioned in the review for the first book, it kind of disappointed me. When I'm taking up a book about soldiers or cops or secret agents I expect certain things from it: Then I realized that this probably was never the intention.

The jobs and profession didn't really matter, they were there to make the MCs look cooler and provide occasional or not so occasional source of angst. There's nothing wrong with this but had it stayed that way I probably wouldn't have made it through the 2d volume in the series. But the 2d book improved on it some, and the 3d improved on it a lot. I loved it, not so much for the plotwise reasons although the plot was quite solid but because it finally supported all the previous characterization. So far, Ben had been doing most of the acting, and I would have been fine with that had the things stayed the way they had been in the beginning of the first book with Nik basically the boss and Ben the muscle.

The storyline also gave credit to the idea of Nik actually supervising black-ops missions in the past: That was a nice thing to see. Another thing that kept bugging me through almost all of the first book was just how unrealistic it all seemed. And again it took me sometime to realize it was probably never meant to be realistic in any way.

It was just two gorgeous men thrown together by fate and staying together forever despite their past, present, inner demons and in ability to fight them, just because this was somehow meant to be. Again, nothing wrong with that, but generally that's not my cup of tea. The 3d book amended that as well, at least in part.

The struggle Nik had to endure to make himself set Ben free felt painfully truthful, as well as Ben's need to define himself outside of his relationship with Nik. The simple reality of it made the reward of them finally getting back together all the more precious - and believable. Despite all the things I liked about the 3d book, there were other things that bothered me. Some of them minor like the details of the sex scene toward the end of part one - totally unhygienic, of course, but this is the kind of thing I'm willing to overlook.

The one episode I absolutely didn't buy and couldn't really explain away for myself was the almost-rape-scene in part two, after Nik manipulated Ben from the house and into the hotel with him. Now, I get it that their sex is usually rough and they like to push each other's limits and, more to the point here, they kinda like their limits to be pushed. But given Nik's background and his alleged history of abuse I just can't see this episode going the way it is described. For that matter, I don't really see Ben acting like that and thinking that it's okay.

It probably was supposed to show just how well they know and understand each other but it left me highly uncomfortable about the whole situation. In a way, I think this book reminds me of some Hollywood movies: Jul 11, Steph rated it it was amazing Shelves: Wow, I'm still in shock. There wasn't a single slow moment in this book. Fast paced and amazing from the very first page! Seriously, I was shitting myself. It was so scary.

But it was action packed and enthralling, I was kept on the edge of my seat the whole time. Part two of the book is about as different as you can get.

Ben and Nik are home and Ben is exploring a new life with his 'just found' family. Poor Wow, I'm still in shock. Poor Nik can feel Ben changing and pulling away from him and it's breaking his heart, but he refuses to step in or influence Ben's decisions. He wants Ben to come back to him of his own free will, even though it kills him to stand by.
