The Total Package

All in all, this was a fast read that was enjoyable enough for what it was, but I had several issues that just made the book "ok" for me.

Star quarterback-and heartthrob--Tyson Palmer always did things in spectacular fashion, including ruining his career after debuting as a first-round draft pick. When the head coach of the Austin Mavericks refuses to let him waste his million dollar arm, Tyson makes a Hail Mary pass at redemption and succeeds with everyone…except Dani, who appears to be using her high-profile commentator job to make a name for herself at his expense. But can a woman trying to claw her way to the top and a quarterback who knows all about rock bottom make it to the Super Bowl without destroying each other in the process?

And what will happen when Tyson-riding high on his career comeback-realizes he needs to make an even more important comeback with Dani? Tyson Palmer is the famous quarterback who was a heart-breaker, but after a stint at a rehab owning to his substance addiction, he is a reformed man now. And is more focused on his game rather than chasing skirts and breaking them. Tyson's eye catches the sexy reporter whom he could not recognize from his destructive and wild past. Will he get to make this woman fall for him despite of so much reluctance from her end?

Dani Carr is the hot and sexy side-line sports reporter, who after spending one night in the company of Tyson and in end getting her heart broken, is now adamant that she won't give her heart to this man anymore, also because of the secret that she keeps more close to her heart than any man. Dani is now ambitious and the distraction of Tyson being there all the time is not helping her at all. Will she get away from the man who once broke her heart? The author's writing style is quite charming and at times the narrative is layered with funny anecdotes and with lots of emotional moments. The narrative is engaging and at times bit cheesy, considering the fact that this is a dramatic romance chick-lit story.

The pacing at times goes from being slow to being medium. There are some mundane day to day activities mentioned page after page that put me off for a bit and the time jumps are way too abrupt, which made it real difficult for me to comprehend with the main characters' feelings. The characters are well-developed and they go through a lot of evolution given the challenges they had to face all through the story. Dani is incurably in love with the man who broke her heart ages ago, it seems she could not get over him and still fancies him.

And this distraction made it difficult for her to achieve success in her job as a sports presenter. Tyson is the character, whom I really liked through out the story. He is handsome and level-headed, but Tyson when he was in college was wild and an addict. I loved the reformed Tyson much better as he turned into an understanding jock. Moreover, the issues with Tyson are depicted with lots of sensitivity and realism.

The supporting characters are also quite well-crafted. The love story between Tyson and Dani is sweet in the beginning then it turned something compassionate. Their love grew eventually with time. The love scenes between them are projected with passion and depth that can make the readers feel for the characters.

Overall, this is a charming and entertaining story that will make you fall in love with the idea of love yet one more time. Chick-lit fans can give this book a try! I received a copy of this book for the blog tour. View all 8 comments. Jan 03, Cheryl rated it really liked it.

Right from the beginning it was no secret that I knew how this story was going to end. However, it was still fun to read this book. Tyson really did a complete improvement on his life. He was more mature, thoughtful, a good friend and team mate. Dani is a fighter. I like that she fought hard for her career to make sure she was taken seriously as a sports commentator. The funniest moments were when Dani was drunk and she was trying to seduce Tyson.

I could tell her lack of experience was pla Right from the beginning it was no secret that I knew how this story was going to end. I could tell her lack of experience was playing a big part. Not that this is a bad thing. It just showed that Dani would not give her heart to just anyone.

Although, watching Dani in action was funny and charming.

Tyson showed that he could be a perfect gentleman. It took all his will power. I felt the strong connection between these two. If you are a fan of this author's or are a new reader, you will enjoy this book.

Tyson truly is the total package. Definitely not what you think of as a romantic hero. But he takes an offered second chance and turns things around. Then, shockingly, the story changed and skipped ahead a few years. And then all of a sudden, it was torn away and everything had already happened. Tyson is given a singular chance to turn his life around, rehab, a professional trainer and a contract that could pull him out of the downward spiral. When a new team mate demands said journalist, Dani aka Ella joins their team, Tyson finds himself drawn toward the woman that has thrown a curve ball into stellar return performance. I really enjoyed the way Tyson reinvents himself, surrounds himself with positive people and learns to heal those old wounds.

This book is set for publication March 15, William Morrow Publication Date: March 15, Sold by: Contemporary Sports Romance Amazon: This was my first Stephanie Evanovich novel and I was glad that I took a chance on this new author to me. This book is a second chance romance story. I thought the overall storyline was interesting and was able to keep my attention for the most part. I will be honest I was about to give up on this book, but pushed through and I am glad I did because the story got better as the book progressed. I think that is primarily because this story is written in the third person, so it was more like someone was telling me the story, instead of feeling the emotions of the actual characters.

Other than that I really did enjoy the story. I felt the story was paced very well and flowed nicely. In this book we meet Dani Carr and Tyson Palmer. Tyson is a NFL Quarterback and when the story starts out, he is down on his luck. He has been suspended from the league and released from his team. He has turned to drugs and alcohol and pretty much has given up on life.

This is where Dani comes in…. Ella has been in love with Tyson for awhile. She was his tutor in college and runs into him again in a local pub on campus. This meeting turns into a steamy reconnection, that is until Tyson leaves her crying and alone. He had a lot of redeeming to do in my eyes. Will Tyson remember Dani? Will these two get their HEA?? I also enjoyed the secondary characters we met during the story. Marcus was great too…. If you are a fan of a second chance romance or football related story, then I would say give this a try. Book Bitches Blog Facebook Twitter I liked how this book mentions characters from Stephanie's other books.

I'm taking off one star because I really didn't care for the bit where she keeps the truth from Tyson. I really enjoyed this romantic sports story. It involves two people who meet in college, one who is in a downward spiral, but claws his way back up to the top. The other becomes a sports reporter who never really forgot her first crush. They meet each other later in life and become friends but one is holding a secret from the other.

A fun romantic second chance book, with football! Feb 14, Cristina My Tiny Obsessions rated it liked it. First of all I had some problems with the writing. This book is written in omniscient third person and while it was fun to read for some chapters, it became confusing and not very enticing later on. In the first chapter we see Tyson and Dani hookup, after she had tutored him a few years back. Tyson was a terrible point of his life, an addict, about to lose his job and with a lot of scandals surrounding him.

The book then follows Tyson road to sobriety, which was quite interesting to read, but utterly slow and it provided nothing to the romance development. I was ok with the time jump, but all that came before should have been shortened. When the time jumps, we finally get another look at Dani. Apart from the writing style, which irked me at times, the dialog, especially between Dani and Tyson, was cringeworthy. This is a girl who at 19 decided she was in love with a guy, which is ok, but almost 10 years later, and without that much contact, she was still very much in love with him.

No crack or smack.

I had to draw the line somewhere. She pulled at the tags under her arm and caught sight of the designer — Tart Collections. Never was a garment so aptly named. Now Dani fully understood what all the fuss was about. I would sit with Satan and present a united front if it helped you. The writing was emotive, insightful, and entertaining and the plot was generally well paced although the characters did go back and forth in their timelines as they recalled their memories and histories.

Toss in a bit of intrigue, clever humor, and some steamy sensual scenes and you have an interesting read on your hands.

Dani has her own hidden agenda though and will not reveal it until she can see that Tyson is a changed man. However, the longer she spends time with him the harder it is to tell him her real reason for coming back into his life. I guess this is where I had issues with this story.

When all is revealed it is just accepted and then we just keep moving on. I felt that this particular part of the story warranted a lot more depth and feeling but that is just my opinion. I liked this book but still felt like it could have given me more, I wanted to wade more in the depths of it and not paddle in the shallow waters. Dec 09, Lisa Filipe rated it it was amazing. Not only do you get a hero who starts out at the bottom of the barrel, and a heroine who goes from sweet tutor to a sassy "gonna take him down" power house, but you also get a wonderful and funny story about personal growth, growing up and making changes and maybe finding the love of your life in the process.

I was swept away, sucked in, and left with a huge smile on my face! What more can you ask for? Nov 26, Whitney Dineen rated it it was amazing. I am a huge Stephanie Evanovich fan! I have to say she really upped her game with this one. The characters are rich and fully developed and very enjoyable. As always, I'm looking forward to more from this lady! This is definitely my least favorite of the three books that Stephanie Evanovich has published so far. I don't mind "fluff," but I found this story way too unbelievable. I mean there are two major issues in this book -- one of them being addiction which is not a spoiler as it's referred to in the book description -- and I just felt they were both glossed over and dealt with in a far too simplistic manner.

Another thing that bothered me was that, to me, Dani came across as a pretty pathetic cha This is definitely my least favorite of the three books that Stephanie Evanovich has published so far. Another thing that bothered me was that, to me, Dani came across as a pretty pathetic character for the majority of this book. I don't want to rip this book apart, because I have enjoyed this author's other work especially Big Girl Panties , and if you just go into this story for a light read without much substance you won't be disappointed. I guess I expected a little more and was, therefore, slightly disappointed.

One thing I will say that I absolutely loved about this book is that we get to catch up with Logan and Holly and Chase and Amanda from her previous two books. I truly enjoyed the reappearance of those characters. Bottom line -- I may have been a little disappointed in this story, but it won't stop me from reading her next book. Sep 27, Beth rated it really liked it. I loved the new set of characters and the fact that we did get to revisit the old characters from previous books and get a wedding and baby out of it. Both Tyson and Dani were very likeable characters and I enjoyed Marcus to.

What I wasn't such a fan of was the fact that we didn't get to see 4 stars I loved this book, it was a cute and sweet read while looking at the downsides of being a professional sports star. What I wasn't such a fan of was the fact that we didn't get to see a lot of Dani and Tyson and their relationship rebuilding, it sort of went from zero to ninety very fast and then from ninety to one hundred was a little slower but I still wanted to see more. I would have also loved to see more of Tyson and Brendon together as well but hopefully in her next book we may get to see more of Dani and Tyson.

I am huge fan of football and I enjoyed how this story developed throughout the book. The characters were multifaceted and fascinating. I really appreciate when an author that is not afraid to give readers characters with realistic struggles. The characters deal with some heavy issues that felt realistic.

I really felt like the author made it so the insecurities and secrets, addiction, and the struggle to stay sober and drug free feel believable. He is at the lowest point of his life. He is addicted to drugs and is about to lose his spot on his team. Despite all the years that have past and all the speculation surrounding Tyson, Dani believes that she can help him.

She honestly believes that by sleeping with Tyson, by giving him a piece of her she change him. She becomes another one of Tyson many victims. We get to see Tyson during his very difficult, grueling recovery process. The author left nothing out about what happens to someone when they are sobering up. She really gives it to us straight in this so we have a real account on what happens. While we see him hit rock bottom we also see him slowly claw his way out. He starts to take back his life and make his way back to his former self and his football team.

I really enjoyed this part of the book, I thought watching this man go through this struggle was vital to this story. In order to appreciate the man he is today, we needed to see what he had to endure. What hurts her most is Tyson does not remember her or the night they shared.

I really loved seeing them reconnect. Their second chance at love was so refreshing. It was nice, sweet and I really loved the slow buildup. Dani was not ready to trust Tyson with her heart again and Tyson is afraid of the pressure that a relationship brings. Can Tyson and Dani find love the second time around? This is definitely worth picking up and reading. Nov 23, Melissa rated it really liked it.

As expected after reading her previous novels, Stephanie Evanovich delivers when it comes to wit, snark, humor, and dialogue. The delectable steamy scenes are an added bonus! I'll admit that from the synopsis, I wasn't sure where this story was going to lead. However, it went in some fun and interesting directions with a few twists. Both Dani and Tyson are likable and I enjoyed reading their perspectives.

I also enjoyed seeing the characters from her previous novels and finding out what they've As expected after reading her previous novels, Stephanie Evanovich delivers when it comes to wit, snark, humor, and dialogue. I also enjoyed seeing the characters from her previous novels and finding out what they've been up to. Having said that, Big Girl Panties contained spoilers for The Sweet Spot , which came out afterward, and I still enjoyed that book too. So don't miss out on those two if you've read this one first. And even though I am not a football person, reading this novel made me slightly more interested in the sport and all that goes along with it.

I'm still not a fan of mixing narratives within a section having one person's thoughts blend into the other person's thoughts instead of separating them out. I have gotten used to it being part of Stephanie's style, but it still is confusing. Aside from that, some parts of the story felt like they jumped around a bit or were disjointed at times.

There was a cool idea toward the beginning that I would have liked to see played with more, but it ended up getting dropped. Overall, The Total Package was a fun and easygoing beach read, but be prepared to blush if you read it in public. View all 4 comments. Mar 08, Sara Strand rated it really liked it. For the record, Stephanie Evanovich is a new-to-me-author and I really enjoyed this book, so I would definitely add her to my authors-to-watch-for list.
