In Miami she started working right away. Her first job was at the Miami laundry Company. She landed the job after answering an ad seeking an Addressograph machine expert, something she claimed she was even though she had never heard the word before. But her passion is cooking. She had been cooking for her family since her mentor in the kitchen, Caridad, the family cook, remained behind in Cuba.
That passion is now 53 years old and still growing. Cooking for her siblings and parents first, then for her kids and husband, later for her kids and her friends and now for her grandkids is where she finds the peace and what relieves her from the stress of her business.
The real estate company has about sales associates, specializing in high-end residential sales and a Commercial Division to serve local and International clientele. She is also a dreamer, and while she cooks her mind travels between her years as a youth in Cuba, and her life in Miami. Her family has always been her number one priority.
That is why she is memorializing the recipes and stories of her life to leave them as a legacy for her family. All recipes are illustrated in full color from the ingredients to the finish dish. The material is well done. The pictures are magnificent. Thank you Teresita, you are incredible. You have elevated the knowledge of our Cuban culinary culture.
My family and the entire exile community admires and loves you. One person found this helpful.
The book is filled with great authentic Cuban recipes and history. Very uplifting, I already tried two recipes and they came out excellent. I received this 3 book series as a gift. I'm generally not a big cookbook fan but found this one fascinating because the recipes are intertwined with the tales of Teresita Shelton's exile from Cuba as a young bride to her making a new life in Miami. Her unique voice conveys the pain of exile along with the joys of romantic love and family devotion.
It's part family album and part cookbook. As for the recipes, she photographs all of the ingredients together at the beginning so helpful to see which brands she uses and then has step-by-step photos along the way. I can't wait to try her ceviche, black beans and bread pudding with carmelized pan.
Although I like a lot the recipes in these set of books and a five star review is a must , I prefer to rate it four star because of the many books these recipes are scattered in. The recipes fit into one book easily, but you have to read Teresita's stories one by one and waste precious time reading the author family's affairs instead of being cooking the food you are starving for, and I'm not mentioning the price of all the books together.
All in all, I recommend the books for the great Cuban recipes they contain. If you are Prime member, go ahead and borrow them for free, copy paste the important info and save a lot.
