Many aspiring animation workers will submit portfolios filled with backgrounds, character designs, storyboards, while applying for a job that only cares about one of those, so nothing really stands out. Observe drawing styles, figure out their foundations and construction process, and practice.

Also, do your homework when applying at a certain studio. After that, you can craft a portfolio that gives you a better chance of being hired. Keep exploring and experimenting. You may stumble onto some techniques no one else thought of. I was wondering if you see Toonboom storyboard being used more and more in the industry? Is it something that is being used but not required in the job postings? Some studios continue to use Photoshop or Flash to storyboard, but I definitely see it slowly trickling to other productions.
