The stable was painted white and blue. The stable inventory also included: First year for motorcycles. One pitch fork, one shovel, two curry combs, twelve horse blankets, twelve saddles, eleven saddle blankets, eleven pair of spurs, eleven pair of leggings, one wagon jack, one electric gong for fire alarms. In May the police put on a parade that included thirteen mounted patrolmen and the patrol wagon. The buildings included two stables and a kennel and tragically the fire caused the death of two stable employees and animals.

They had been painstakingly trained…They were well-drilled for parade purposes and took as much interest in their work as the owners. This was during a water shortage and after finding the faucet turned on several more times, he enlisted the help of several officers. He then had a good long drink. In October the city passed an appropriation for five small automobiles for the police patrol.

This resulted in the non-filling of ten vacant positions, rejection of all proposed salary increases and that the twelve horses will be sold. They have taken the front rank in most of the big parades for 10 or 15 years. For Halloween, the city put on an air raid and black-out drill. Among the thousands of monitors that included 7, women, regular officers, veteran guard officers, 2, boy scouts, regular reserves and 35 motorcycle police , were mounted police patrol. Members of the Guard were given up to 10 weeks of training to be volunteer war-time auxiliary officers.

The mounted patrols were initially formed to primarily to handle traffic in case of evacuation or any other highway congestion. The posse consisted of 20 horses and their owners. They were given training twice weekly that included: The possemen are auxiliary policemen and to be used on parades, traffic control and patrolling city parks. They will wear police blue uniforms with a trouser stripe, western style shirts, hats, boots and holsters. This was a trial, begun on July 17 and funded from Park money and ended in October.

The main patrol area was the Park Blocks. Although there is a note that two officers rode their own horses, beginning in June. Was this review helpful? As an employee for PPS I did not feel as if the company cared to balance my work and life. I find that they do not spend much time talking to their employees to assure they are taking into consideration their lives and abilities.

Armed and Unarmed Security Officer at Portland Patrol, Inc.

Overall, the company does not allow for much growth and the culture does not feed the person or allow for company relationship building. Poorly managed, but lots of opportunity for overtime. A typical work day would very considerably considering there are several types of contracts officers can be assigned to: Management is very important at every workplace, I've learned that even more so with PPS through their poor management practices. The supervisors are not trained well, they are thrown in the role without proper training, support, or even full explanation of duties.

The Supervisors are over worked, under staffed, and under paid. Site officers are treated more as a space filler than as well trained security personal. After initial training, there is no follow up training. Officers are left at sites felling uniformed, and inadequate. It only takes a few short days to realize they are unappreciated and quit.

About the Job

The employee turnaround is the worst I've ever seen. I don't recommend anyone look at Pacific Patrol Service as a career option. Poor management, less than competitive pay, and unappreciative of loyal officers. Your experience with PPS will be provide you with the tools and knowledge to be a leader in various types of work.

My time at PPS has been amazing because of the leadership qualities I have learned through working in team based environments and being an active role model in high prestigious locations. The employees and upper management treat you with respect and listen to what you have to say. A PPS career will also help you gain the understanding and skills of pursuing a law enforcement career. Both the owner of PPS and the president are former police officers with many years of field experience.

He would lay his head on the laps of visitors in wheelchairs. The company is busy and fairly fast paced.

Great company with supportive staff. Pacific Patrol Services trains all officers for each individual site. The goal is for each officer to succeed and to work to their best ability. A site that works well for one person may not work well for another, and while individuality is taken into consideration, an overall high standard of professional conduct is expected from everyone.

The job is more than just standing and watching a door. The officers here are trained to assess potential situations and act accordingly, without physical confrontation and to act as more of a physical presence, deterring unwanted activities form occurring on client properties. It is challenging, rewarding, and provides a sense of community not just within the company, but for the areas that are being patrolled. Just a job to pay the bills.
