Behind the Lies

Fake News: The Lies Behind the Truth

Despite the danger and loneliness he contends with, and the cold, calculated decisions he's forced to make every day, Zach remains compassionate, and the instinctive aid he provides Jenna and her son will make you a fan for life. His muscles tensed under her touch, but she didn't let go. Her breath stuttered at his hooded gaze. She still couldn't get over the truth that he'd tried to help her when he didn't even know her. Not a man who lived a lie. Not a man like her husband. Only … Zach is living a lie.

And he does his darnedest to convince himself it won't matter that Jenna will despise him once she finds out. Jenna is just as complicated. She berates herself for not wising up about her husband sooner, for what she's putting her young son through, and for making Zach a target, too. At the same time, the lengths she's willing to go to protect her son are unexpected and splendid.

And her five year-old lends an authentic innocence, earnestness and bewilderment that yield as much humor as poignancy. Behind the Lies is gritty and timely, steeped in suspense and crowded with danger. It will touch you and trouble you, but most of all it will convince you that Robin Perini is synonymous with stellar romantic suspense. He inadvertently gets caught up in another situation involving Jenna Walters and her son, Sam. Jenna is running away from her abusive Assassin husband, who is going after her. Tension between the two is sky-high, but they both must focus on saving each other from the Bad Guys. It sounds very cliche, but the Author made it work. The Movie star role was a part of the character but didn't take over the novel.

It was actually a very nice add-on to Zack's personality and emotions. I did find it odd that Jenna had a kid. The first novel involved a child, which made it seem uncreative or repetitive. Still a good story though. The sexual tension was enjoyable to read. The descriptions were wonderful and exquisitely tempting. Zach's character isn't as family oriented as Luke first novel. However, Zach's character has developed through the book and Jenna's influence is essential.

Jenna is a strong character that I admire. I loved hearing about Jasmine and Luke from the first novel. I find this to be an important aspect in a series. Hearing about a past character leaves me satisfied to know that the Character is moving forward and happy. I recommend this book and I hope you enjoy it! I thoroughly enjoyed this installment, it was full of tension and angst and although I did see a lot of the plot twists coming Robin did a fabulous job of interweaving them all connecting all the dots. I loved getting to the bottom of Zach's secrets, I really enjoyed the rest of the Montgomery's finally opening their eyes and seeing him for who he truly is. Jenna is an abused-wife desperate to save her and her son, Sam. With unknown enemies lurking Zach and Jenna quickly learn they must work together in a desperate attempt to survive. This is the perfect example of a romantic suspense. This can be read as a stand-alone.

Everything was balanced; the plot flowed in alignment with the apprehension, and the intensity did not overwhelm. The best part was when it came to the romance there was no game playing; the author kept things natural, allowing thing to progress without drama. Highly Recommended for fans of romantic suspense. Best feature of the book was the child, Sam, who seemed like a real five year old and processed what was happening in a believable way. Zach and Jenna are a good duo - they bring the best out in each other and make a good team. Very violent ending is well done and kept me turning the pages but was almost too much.

Great book and great series so far! Now on to the next book! Good interaction with Montgomery family, fighting international crime and romance back home, I liked the family relationship and their respect for doing the right thing. I really liked the fact that the traitors and terrorist were destroyed. I liked the happy ending and lead into the sequel. Of course, that makes me a conservative American!

Feb 24, Nfloodtularosa. I enjoyed this book more than book one. The main female character was more interesting and believable.

Lost and hurt, she throws herself into the model lifestyle of drugs and parties, when she is unexpectedly saved by Simon, a wealthy consultant, who whisks her away to rehab and then marries her shortly after her recovery.

Now Holly is married, pregnant with twins, and wants for nothing.

She even has a beach home in her beloved Cornwall to escape to when London becomes too much. But when her birth plan goes wrong and only her little girl survives, Holly aches for her son whom she never got to hold. As her friends and family try to help her move on she just cannot seem to find a way through her grief. And then she finds something that makes her think her precious boy didn't die at all.

He was taken from her and she will do whatever it takes to get him back This story is so unique and fresh, and the writing really carries a frantic energy which worked wonderfully for this plot. As a mother, it broke my heart to watch what Holly was going through and I ached alongside her for what she had lost. But as the tension mounts and unusual occurrences start to slide into place, I was absolutely terrified at what was truly happening. The characters are well-developed and relatable except for one or two which you will recognise when you read it yourself! Apr 25, Joanna Lambert rated it really liked it.

Although I did guess, there are some fabulous red herrings thrown at us. It made me question what I believed! Mark Jenson scared the life out of me, so cold and calculating … There are more than a couple of scenes that had my stomach churning in apprehension and fear. The final crises is spectacular. Behind the Lie is a gripping psychological thriller that you think you have worked out but will still manage to surprise you. Holly seems grateful to be married to successful surgeon, Simon. Now that Holly is pregnant wi I first came across Amanda James when I read Summer in Tintagel so when I saw that she had a new book coming out I didn't hesitate to snap one up. Now that Holly is pregnant with twins, they appear to have the perfect marriage, but appearances can be so VERY deceptive.

Simon has a gambling problem and sneaks out of the house when Holly is asleep. As he gambles more he quickly becomes out of control and bets more than his house. When Holly goes into labour she is eager to meet her children, only to be told that her son didn't make it. Holly is sure that she heard a cry in the delivery room other than the one uttered by her daughter, Iona, but in the stress of the situation she must have been mistaken.

When she receives an anonymous letter that claims her son, Ruan, is alive she doesn't know who to turn to. Everyone will think she is mad and she might lose her daughter. So she turns to her ex-boyfriend and former serviceman, Jowan, to help her uncover the truth. I think we are programmed to look for the shock element in books these days, so some people might find Behind the Lie slightly predictable, but I loved the interaction between all of the characters and the depths that they will stoop to in order to save their own skin.

Amanda James always seems to create three-dimensional characters so that you can peel layer after layer away like an onion. It was certainly a fast-paced read that had me on the edge of my seat, purely because I cared about the characters rather than expecting a big reveal at the end. I sometimes found Holly a bit emotionless when she referred to her son as 'my boy' and her husband's mistress as 'his woman' but that was just my preference.

Another top-notch read by Amanda James, I'd certainly recommend Behind the Lie to anyone who likes a bit more meat on the bones of their psychological thriller. I chose to read an ARC and this is my honest and unbiased opinion.

Holly has had a troubled past, and when she starts to think and then believe Ruan is actually alive her husband and her best friend Demi start to believe her past is not quite her past and believe she is suffering from depression, well some people try to be supportive. There are a quite a few characters in the story that have known Holly and Simon before they were married, and they have different opinions that are expressed throughout, this gives a really good background to the characters and the dynamics between them.

It was Holly on her journey that was intriguing me as well as my being a witness as she transformed from a self doubting, beholden to her husband type of woman, to a strong, resilient woman who is willing to put her family first regardless of the risk. It was all told at a good pace that kept me frantically reading until the last page.

This is a book that would appeal to readers of contemporary fiction as well as general fiction, who like an element of mystery and thriller with a little dash of romance. A very twisted psychological thriller, with a story that is every parent's nightmare. I really enjoyed this story and the concept was well written. The characters are also very well thought out. Although, I really felt for Holly I was not very fond of her character. However, this changed when she changed her attitude and took her life into her own hands instead of being the "victim" as she put it.

Definitely recommend this book for fans of psychological thrillers. Feb 04, Nicola rated it really liked it Shelves: Behind the Lie gradually draws you in and before you know it you are hooked, life is on hold and the chapters are whizzing by. Holly is the central character and the story begins with her giving birth to twins. How can she get people to believe her? Who can she trust? I was gripped from the start, wondering how the lie of the title would be discovered and just who was involved, and why I couldn't tear myself away from this book for 3 days, I loved it. The characters were well formed - you know how involved you are with a book when you really detest a character in a book! Before the final reveal. I give my thanks to Netgalley and HQ Digital for a copy of this book in exchange for this review.

Holly West marries a wealthy obstetrician and her life seems complete when she falls pregnant with twins. One twin dies at birth and Holly struggles to accept that her son has died. I like Amanda James style of writing and will Behind the lie: I like Amanda James style of writing and will definitely read more of her work. This book, however, is not a romance! But when her obstetrician husband tells her that one twin is small and may not survive her seemingly perfect life starts to come apart at the seams. I have to say that Behind The Lie is fairly predictable, something that I normally hate in a book, but for some reason, this book pulled me in and even though I was sure that I knew where the book was going from very early on, I still really enjoyed reading it and wanted to find out what was going to happen.

I grew to like Holly, and I was definitely rooting for her by the end. Perhaps, as a mother of twins, I felt a stronger connection with the book and character than others, but I do think that Behind the Lie is a good, solid, psychological thriller that many will enjoy reading. Overall, Behind The Lie is a solid psychological thriller, the storyline is interesting and engaging and it is well written, I hope that Amanda James writes more psychological thrillers in the future.
