I bought this for my trip to Lisbon, so my review is only focused on that portion of the book.
For the areas covering Lisbon, the information was thorough and covered interesting anecdotes about the city to aid in discovery. However for a city that is fairly walkable and easy to get around in, the guide book fails to provide a lot of walking tours or vantage points beyond the traditional pathways. This book was good for general background about the country and general travel planning tips.
The restaurant tips were helpful and we found several good spots through the book we always double check with the internet since restaurants can go out of business between printings. However, where I found this book lacking was in maps and directions for city walking tours. I am usually a good map reader and always carry a paper travel book in European cities to follow suggested walking tours. However, we tried to use the maps for walking in Lisbon and Porto but found them somewhat useless.
We needed to use google maps to navigate our way around.
Great guide book for those traveling to Portugal for the first time! I bought this book to highlight the main attractions and some other points of interest outside of the main cities. This book covered a lot of the popular places and also pointed out interesting places to visit in the country side.

Portugal is a great country and cannot be fully covered by one book, but this is a great start! Inherent in all guide books. This book does a great job offering the latest and greatest info, but there are exceptional travel deals and transportation advice on other travel sources.
I ordered this book because Lonely Planet has never let me down when it comes to travel info. I ordered this book because Im planning a trip to Lisbon, Madeira, and the Azores. NO mention of the Azores or Madeira. They are integral parts of Portugal draw many number of tourist each year. I regret ordering this book and wish they was some disclaimer that information on these two places are not included. I'm a big fan of anything Lonely Planet does. Just used this for a trip to Lisboa and surrounding areas, and the book was a huge help. Not as much for dining options as everything else, though.
