However, most of what the author wrote was common sense and I am very disappointed that I paid for what I already knew. I kept reading, in hopes for some enlightenment. Also, I dont agree with some of her thoughts about play, exercise, and giving choices In the real world, dogs must learn to adapt to certain living styles, in order to be accepted into society.

I highly recommend Rosie Lowry's book, "Understanding the Silent Communication of Dogs" to anyone who loves dogs and is trying to become a better companion to the dog or dogs in their lives. This book cuts through the popular jargon of dog training and behavior today, pointing the way to communicating simply and from the heart - from one species to another. It opens the door for us humans to enter into the inner emotions and lives of the dogs we live with, and creates the possibility of a deeper and richer relationship than we might have imagined.

Is there an explanation as to why the dog is panting in this circumstance? Is the mouth closed? Are the commissures corners of the dogs mouth pushed forward or pulled back? Is there any tension in the lips? Does the mouth look short or is it long and loose? Has the dog given any body language signals like a lip lick or a yawn? What are the whiskers doing?
Mouth is closed; it looks like the whiskers may be pushed forward. Can you notice any other body language in the case of the ears, eyes or position of the head?

Are they sideways or back? For dogs with floppy ears, you can focus on the base of the ears and you will see subtle differences when they are back or forward.

Does it feel like the body is loose and moving easily? Or are there areas that seem stiff? Maybe there is no movement and the dog might be freezing? What is the speed or tempo of the movement — is it jittery or fluid?
