Perfect Summer (Loving Summer Series #2)

Perfect Summer

Summer is such a loving person that makes the people around her want to be better. She is like the sun and the boys just orbit around her. I have to admit that towards the end I was getting frustrated with trying to figure out who I thought she should be with. I definitely have my opinion and I hope the next book goes my way.

Summer's Aunt Sookie's story is heartbreaking. Had me in tears. My father is diabetic so I made a connection to that story line. I don't want to give any of the story away. It is a quick read not quite pages. It is a perfect read for the summer since the setting is a beach house in California. It has that summer feel. I recommend this book and any other Kailin Gow book for that matter. I am making my other books wait another day or two while I read the next installment from the Desire series, Passion.

Like I said a Kailin Gow book moves to the top and all the rest have to wait. If you couldn't tell from all the gushing, I do recommend reading Loving Summer. Pick it up you'll be glad you did. May 30, Ashley Chen rated it it was amazing. I don't focus on my genre on contemporary, but when I saw this blog tour, I jumped on it, fast! I don't know why but I think this book had potential. This book definitely made me want to read more contemporary books. The characters in the book were not boring.

I didn't hate them! I found normal contemporary female characters will always complain about why would a guy pick me because I am not w More Reviews Posted on FireStarBooks I received the book as apart of a blog tour. I found normal contemporary female characters will always complain about why would a guy pick me because I am not worthy, ugly and stupid.

Well, by complaining that you are ugly when you are clearly not is stupid. Summer was not like that. This book had love-more-than-triangle. But surprisingly I didn't hate it! I think it was the style of writing or something. You clearly could felt the love from each character. The emotions didn't felt force. This book also touches basis on obstacles. By having the parents divorced, totally reminded me of The Last Song I just watched it last weekend. The book definitely shown how hard it was for the characters when parents divorce.

So this is not just a cute ohhhh I am in love type of book. It shown how people have to step up and take responsibilities when things get tough, and not simply give up. This really motivates me! The book also mentioned suicide. It hits on so many basis. I love and hate how the book is short, because by being short, it was a cute, fun, summer read, but I wanted MORE! Overall, this book was amazing! Haha, if you saw my Stacking the Shelves vlog last week, you saw me comment on the physical book itself.

Well, when you rub the cover, it squeaks. P It is some weird, almost sticky, rubbery material. This book definitely made an impression on me. Mar 15, P. Warren rated it it was amazing. How can she keep doing this to me.. I read it in Vampire Bills I dont want to call this a love triangle as its not quite a triangle.. Without giving too much of the book away there are 3 boys who all fall in love with Summer. I will leave it at that. Throughout this book Kailin Gow again addresses some serious topics;Depression, self esteem, divorce,Suicide.

I love that she addresses these topics.. So once again Kailin has written another wonderfully entertaining story. If your looking for an nice summer read.. You wont be disappointed. May 24, Shane rated it it was amazing. This is the perfect setting for the hot season, and you'll literally feel every scene come to life on each page. Kailin Gow is an outstanding author capturing every essence of a young girl trying to figure out what she wants and how to deal with love.

What can I say?

  • The Swimmer manuscript : Cherokee sacred formulas and medicinal prescriptions?
  • Loving Summer Series by Kailin Gow.
  • Loving Summer (Loving Summer, #1) by Kailin Gow.
  • Light Reading Anthology 2.

This book was indeed a loving summer. I've never read a story that included so many potentials chasing after one girl. I was tired for her, knowing she'd have to make such a huge decision in the end: For some reason I'd probably stay by myself and choose none of them, especially when two of them were brothers. Kailin had us confused till the end, not leaving any hint at all as to who Summer's going to choose. I like the fact that the story wasn't only about new found love or how to come to terms with your feelings, it also portrayed the pain of a broken family, health issues, and losing a loved one.

I laughed with the characters, yelled at Summer to pick Drew, and cried in their moments of sorrow. One thing I did question is the fact that the main character kissed all three of the guys in their own unique and passionate way. It's like no kiss was better than the other. Summer had butterflies for each guy and it just complicated things even more, for her at least. I already made my pick from the start and I'm never going back on my decision.

Drew's this playboy who no one takes seriously. He's the guy your parents warn you about, and everyone thinks he's this carefree person who thinks of nothing else but himself, but once he saw Summer again and was back at the beach house you got to see the real side to him. And I loved who he was underneath the star football player all the girls went for. I loved how he made an effort to just be himself, and he had no problem with being honest with his feelings. Nat, was clearly the opposite.

He took on so much that he kind of stopped enjoying himself was I can't believe that even though he loved Summer that much he disregarded her feelings all those years. I kicked him out of the competition the moment I became aware of the situation. Astor is this star that's not far from having the same effect on girls that Drew has, only he doesn't play around the way Drew used to.

I like his personality but he seemed too perfect, and we all know perfect is boring. He didn't really leave an impact on me and I wasn't interested in his scenes. We can't forget Rachel, though she was hardly in the story. I liked how she was having fun with her new boyfriend but I hated how hard she was on her brother. In my opinion, I think she's mad at what the dad did and hates that her brother was somewhat doing the same thing. Aunt Sookie is awesome!

Her attitude towards life is one to admire. She keeps everybody happy and appreciative. Her beautiful home brings together these old friends and allows each individual to express themselves freely. Her acting school is built on the foundation of helping young and aspiring actors get the chance to come one step closer to their dreams. It's quite sad what happened to Aunt Sookie and her character is one I will surely miss in the follow-ups. I can't believe I wrote so much already without addressing my impression of Summer. Do I like her, kind of.

I find that she sets herself up for problem. Why would you just go around kissing guys like that when your feelings aren't sorted out. One minute she's heated for one guy, the next she's falling over for the other. Like seriously, chick get away from all of them and go somewhere to find yourself.

I think she should stay single for a while. Though, like I've stated before, I'm leaning towards Drew. Overall, Loving Summer was a fast pace and interesting book. I loved every moment of it and I can't wait for the next because the first just screams to be continued Jul 11, Little Paper Rose Reviews rated it it was ok. I do like me a good love triangle, as long as it's well-done and believable. It wasn't realistic having these gorgeous boys claim to love Summer, at the same time, without it being clear or coming across what it was that was so spectacular about her.

The relationship Summer struck up was really out of the blue as were the love confessions suddenly hailing from left and right, people pouring their hearts out. Wherever Summer turned there was a boy. And this girl could not make up her mind. One boy she'd loved all her life, one she's dating, and one she has momentarily thoughts of going further with - it just made little sense.

There were many melodramatic situations and ones so cheesy I just found myself smiling. I can't really place 'Loving Summer' - it was a super quick read for me; having only read for a little while I was shocked when realizing I was already halfway through. Everything flew by really fast and I didn't have enough time to grow feelings for anything or connecting with the emotions presented in the book. It amazes me every time how much impact an ending has.

Without having gotten resolution to any problem 'Loving Summer' just ended, leaving in the midst of a giant tangle, literally as if several pages were missing. And then comes an epilogue. In this case it felt like an easy way out. Now all I can feel is that this novel was unfinished. The ending, unfortunately, took away a lot for me and I won't be picking up the following installment. I wished I'd liked 'Loving Summer', it had potential - it was really okay at its core absolutely not a bad book but ended up not working for me. Apr 27, Ellen rated it really liked it Shelves: I really loved this book.

It is the perfect summer read. Nat, Drew, and Rachel Donovan are spending the summer with their childhood friend, Summer Jones, who they haven't seen in three years, and a lot has changed in those three years Summer is no longer the year-old with braces, Drew is the star football player and is totally hot, and Nathaniel is pretty hot himself.

As they reunite at Summer's Aunt Sookie's Malibu beach house, they not only rekindle their childhood I really loved this book. As they reunite at Summer's Aunt Sookie's Malibu beach house, they not only rekindle their childhood friendship, but their relationships take a turn in a new direction. Summer now not only has the attention of the Donovan boys, but also of Astor Fairway, the handsome television star, and suddenly her life is more complicated than she ever dreamed. This is a great contemporary romance.

I really liked Summer. She is really sweet and has everyone's best interest at heart. She doesn't want to hurt anyone, which makes trying to decide which guy she wants that much harder, especially when she really loves them all. Even though the characters are all young, they are very responsible, and when Aunt Sookie becomes ill, they all pitch in to do whatever they can to help.

Even in the midst of tragedy, they find their friendships strengthening. This is a fun and enjoyable YA romance, but the characters also face issues like divorce, depression, suicide, and the death of a loved one. He is absolutely yummy. I am looking forward to the second book in the Loving Summer Series to see where Kailin Gow takes the story from here.

This is the first book I have read by Kailin Gow, and I am really looking forward to checking out more of her books. If you love contemporary romance, then this is a really enjoyable read and I would definitely recommend it. Normally these stories only involve two guys competing, but this one had three. Is it weird to want this girl's problem?

Three drop dead gorgeous guys wanting lil ole me is a ridiculous fantasy, but hey, a girl can dream.

Loving Summer

However, this story about Summer and her three potential mates did give me whiplash. Let me introduce them. First there's Nathaniel or Nat. Summer has ha 3. Summer has had a crush on him since they were kids, but Nat seems oblivious, though everyone else around them knows the truth. However, he can no longer ignore the fact that other guys are starting to notice Summer.

Reward Yourself

I'll wait for the trilogy of "Saving you Saving me" books and pray it won't suck! The only problem I have with this book is there are a lot of errors as far as wording goes, that and the fact that I wish Summer would make a decision already!! In this series View all. But things aren't all fun and games in the household. So, thank you for pointing out there are some negative reviews attacking me as an author and as a person. I loved from the beginning to the end.

He starts to see her in a different light. Second, there's Nat's brother, Drew. Drew is a player, plain and simple. Girls just flock to him wherever he goes. His secret is that he's been pining for Summer though never decided to act upon it since he knows how she feels about his brother, Nat. Last, and certainly not least, is Astor.

He's a celebrity and has gotten to know Summer while attending her Aunt's acting school. He's sweet and is completely open with his feelings. Each of these three boys are interested in Summer. Each of them is unique in their own right. Summer, of course, can't choose. Throughout the book, she goes back and forth, back and forth with each guy she likes most. Why he's better than the other and vise versa.

I couldn't keep up. I knew what she was feeling considering I, too, couldn't choose. As soon as I start to favor one over the other, the other did something incredible and made me re-think. I don't know who I'm rooting for. With that said, I have no other choice but to read the sequel when it comes out so I can continue to live vicariously through Summer.

Apr 30, Constance R. I'm excited to have an ARC copy of Loving Summer, which I received as part of a teacher's beta group from the publisher. Summer and the Donovans have not seen each other for three years, but because of a family crisis, they are thrown together at Summer's Aunt's beach house in Malibu. Every character from Aunt Sookie to Astor to the gorgeous brothers were well-developed. I felt for each one of them. The story made me tear up a few times. I love the romance, but there are bigger issues the author tackles in this book that is appropriate for older teens and young adults and felt realistic.

Divorce, suicide, death and dying are some which was delicately handled as part of the story. It's not simply about a girl having a crush on a boy she grew up with, but about friendship, the impact of infidelity and divorce has on a family, and more. Jun 02, Anagha Uppal rated it really liked it Recommends it for: Kailin's fans, contemporary readers.

Although it isn't al Originally posted on my blog: Although it isn't all rainbows and unicorns, it mostly focuses on the time Summer spends with three boys and their romances. Loving Summer was the first novel I have read by Kailin Gow and now, I can see why readers love her work so much. Her work is mainly romance, but she incorporates so much character-building and well-written narration, you can't help but love whatever she writes.

Summer hasn't seen her best friend Rachel and her two brothers, Drew and Nat in over three years. Summer has always had a crush on Nat but he has never seemed to notice her Although my first thought was that this was going to be yet another boring, sappy romance novel, it turned out to be so much more!

Gow really takes her time developing each of her characters' personalities, which is what makes this book so much fun to read: The protagonist of the novel. She has changed drastically from the girl with braces and glasses to an incredibly beautiful girl, but is still sweet as ever. Has had a crush on Nat since forever. The thing I love most about Summer is that she knows who she is.

She knows that she's pretty and athletic and that boys notice her now. She is aware that all three boys have a thing for her instead of being annoyingly oblivious. At first, he is shown to be an uncaring jerk, who is unbelievably hot but sleeps with many girls then forgets about them. Slowly, however, you realize he is devoted guess who to! Think Damon from Vampire Diaries, except he changes after meeting Elena.

D Nathaniel "Nat" Donovan: But if you really wanted a comparison from VD , take Stefan while his feelings were turned off by Klaus and Elena still cared about him I sure hope you've watched this last season! That's kind of how Nat is throughout the book. He's always playing with Summer's feelings - uncaring and out of the picture. Then after a while, he shows up, alternately telling her he cares for her and then informing they can't ever be together.

A TV star of popular teen shows and movies. He doesn't have friends outside of Summer and the actors he works with. He asks Summer out at a party in the beginning and they start dating and stay that way throughout the book. Hot, sweet, smart and rich - he's the perfect boyfriend Recently turned Goth, she is pretty and sweet, but not too big in the story - except when it's something about her boyfriend Ryan.

I wish she were shown to be the best friend that she is, maybe with Summer confiding in her about some things. She owns the beach house and the Acting Academy. This is the character I most wish I'd seen more of.

Editorial Reviews

She sounds like a fabulous aunt and her stories about her 20s would be a great addition to the story. The romanciness is so CUTE!! Instead of wanting to gag, I was pulled along through the love triangle or love pentagon or whatever it was, and I stayed up late because I wanted to know who Summer ends up with so bad!!!

Most of the novel is told through Summer's point of view, but there are a few amazing chapters told through Drew's point of view. I love the bit of guy's perspective in the whole thing, although I feel like it's a huge giveaway to who Summer might possibly be with in the end this is not a spoiler, I don't know either! I just wish all of them were shown to be great choices in the end, so it would make it harder for the reader to pick a "team" for the second book. As it is, only one stands out as the best choice.

And I'm not the only one who thinks so! If you have read the book, be sure to go vote on which team you're on at theedgebooks. The cover fit the theme of this book just right, with a girl and guy holding hands in front of a setting sun. Their backs are turned so that gives it sort of a mysterious aura as to who it could be. The title is cool too - it makes sense with Summer meaning both the season and the protagonist.

If you're going to read this book, I encourage you to get a physical copy. The cover's made out a weird rubbery substance, so when you let your fingers slide over it, the book squeaks! I just thought that was the coolest thing and I found myself rubbing it while reading: May 27, Tammi rated it really liked it. What would it be like if you could return to your favorite time of year? Summer has always loved spending time with her Aunt Sookie at her beach house in Malibu during the summer months.

It helped that she also got to spend time with the Donovans - Rachel, Nathaniel and Drew. Summer had a lot of firsts with the Donnovans - "first kisses, first love and first heartbreak. Summer has always had a crush on Nathaniel aka Nat, but he has never thought of her more than his little sister's friend. They have always got along well and made summers the best time of the year. I must say, I haven't read a lot of contemporary books, but I really liked this novel. Not only did it keep me in suspense of what was happening, but the character's responses were believable. If you are reading this book or even thinking about reading this book then you have probably read the other books in this series. I was promised that there would be more Nat and let me tell you…Yes there was.

Nat brought the sexy.

Now this doesn't mean that Drew is out of the game. Even Summer said he was hot and cold with his feelings. OMG, she is getting on my last nerve with her indecision. I've always liked her as a character but this being in love with two hot guys, possibly three is wearing on me. Astor is still around. In fact, he looks to be a more permanent fixture around the area.

Which is nice because Summer needs a friend. Astor, in my mind, has been friend zoned. Welcome to the friend zone, Astor. Let me break it down for you: Drew is dealing with his feelings and is all over the place. Nat finally lays his suspicions out there for Drew. Now Drew can deal with it in a healthier way. On a side note, I was right. She is with Nat for the most part but her heart is still questioning things. I was questioning her sanity. Please, for the love of God, knock it off. She is attracted to Drew and others see it.

She does seem to come to an epiphany about which one is her love but it could be a matter of a little too late. Plus the way she copes with things at the end had me a little upset with her.

There is a guy that is stalking her and that leads to some intense moments. He says some things in his ramblings that Summer brushes off as the words of a crazy person. Could there be some truth to what he said? It would be interesting if there was. I am going to have to read those. Loved that and the connections he has to the Donovans and Astor. Just rip my heart out now and be done with it. It is up in the air as to what is happening with Nat.

That letter he wrote was worthy of my tears. You are either going to read this book because you have been following this series or your not. I am going to have to say read the book. Nat is trying to continue with college and working with his father at Donovan Dynamics. And Drew is coming into his own but also enjoys being the new stud on campus - something he has a little experience with. And Astor has a few surprises up his sleeve too!! Kailin does a superb job of keeping the story flowing smoothly and very interesting. I really like that she also mentioned a few of her others books in this book and adds them into the story line - that is absolutely genius!!

This book starts off where the last book ends, with Drew finding Summer and Nat in bed together. From there it goes into the love triangle where summer is trying very hard to figure out her confusing feelings for the two and Drew is trying unsuccessfully to stand back and let her be with Nat. Not only that but she has feelings for Aster as well which are more a friendship than romantic love but Aster wants more.

Not only is there a love triangle of sorts but there's also a lot more mystery involved in this story which keeps you on the edge of your seat.

You're not going to want to put this book down but it ends all too soon with a cliffhanger that makes you wanna scream. The only problem I have with this book is there are a lot of errors as far as wording goes, that and the fact that I wish Summer would make a decision already!! Other than that it is a fantastic book and I would highly recommend it to those of you who have read the previous novels in this series!
