Hold My Hand: A Mothers Journey

Airports, hotels, two clean and civilised days in clean and civilised Zurich. A clean and civilised ending. He makes for a personable, credible narrator with a felicitous turn of phrase: Sometimes I think Dad is my disease.

Docx spends a fair proportion of the book clearing up the myths and misunderstandings about assisted dying: Dignitas is not a clinic so much as an administrative service that helps the terminally ill get through all the Swiss legal stuff. Beyond this, the ultimate destination feels almost unbearably prosaic: When the system badly let them down she cared for him at home and managed to get many strangers to volunteer their time to help out.

In the process she not only enriched her own life and that of her son, but the lives of every volunteer she found.

This is one of the most amazing books I've ever read. Glenys' son suffers a terrible head injury, and she spends the following years in ensuring that his life is as good as possible. Because she is such a charismatic person, with a very strong spiritual belief system, she attracts an incredible array of people of help her with Scott.

In this inspirational book Glenys describes her fight to rehabilitate Scott after the doctor What a strong woman and a great book. In this inspirational book Glenys describes her fight to rehabilitate Scott after the doctors advised that no more could be done to help his mobility and he should be put in a home. Alone in Sydney , she put leaflets out asking for help. Complete strangers turned up at her door, a flood of volunteers, all giving their time to Scott, inspired by his unquenchable spirit. Along the way Glenys learned to trust her instincts as a mother, to treasure each moment with her son and to accept her situation without bitterness, even when tragedy struck again.

Scott's courage and his mother's determination to give him the best possible life imbue with book with a powerful message of hope. Mar 31, Katie rated it it was amazing. I loved this book! It was so well written, I couldn't put the book down for the life of me! The story line is absolutely amazing. It was so Inspirational, I laughed, I cried, I felt sad, emotional. There isn't a book like this where I have felt so many feelings towards one book. I was dissapointed at the end because I really thought that it would have been the opposite to what the outcome actually was, I can't say anything bad about this book.

I would read it, over and over again! Jul 05, Elaine Vanhuis added it.

Hold My Hand: A Mother's Journey: Glenys Carl: www.farmersmarketmusic.com: Books

One of the most spiritual nonspiritual books I have ever read. It is a compelling read. The author's strength, creative soul and most profoundly --her humanity transcends life itself. This story moves me.

The kindness the author encountered amongst so many strangers along her journey moves me. I found myself crying on the subway on my way to work this morning rereading beautiful passage about her son and a special bunny named Thumper. Most eloquently stated by the author," There are things more powerful than our best intentions; that life is painted in broader strokes than we can imagine and all we can do is our best. After reading her book, I felt more available to the present moment and wanted to live, to take, to enjoy, to really experience life in all its fullest. The author and her actions really impacted me.

She's is an incredble woman. I highly recommend this book as a very powerful, moving journey into her love for her son, her soul, and her humanity effecting thousands. She had immigrated to the US to better raise her three sons who were abandoned by their father. When she received the call telling her that Scott, her youngest son, who was on vacation in Australia, had an accident, possibly an assault, and was in the hospital dying, she immediately goes to Australia to be by his side.

After three months in a coma, he responds and wakes up. He has received brain damage, though his personality is intact, and he is mostly paralyzed. Glenys is a small woman, a foreigner and has very little money. She believes though no one agrees, that he can be rehabilitated. She hands out leaflets asking for people to volunteer one hour to help.

Eventually four hundred people volunteer. Her devotion and Scott's personality touch the hearts of their new friends. When his rehabilitation progresses they have to leave Australia, she goes to London and seeks volunteers to continue his rehabilitation. It is an uplifting tale of faith, love, miracles and the goodness of people. I am really happy to have come across this book. This is a portrait of people of strength.

Yann Tiersen-Mother's Journey (long version)

Not fantacy or fiction that the author takes the liberty to weave the magic but the magic that was lived and transformed many people. Beautiful expression of love made visible and of how we are all connected.

Glenys moved mountains for her son Scott and he gave her so much in return. I must admit that this is one of the most touching and inspiring book I've ever read. I refuse to close the book before I finished reading it! She have gone to great lenghts from Australia to London, putting out leaflets asking help from strangers to be volunteers to help with her invalid son.

Strangers of all ages, sizes and different backgrounds turn up to give a helping hand in anyway they can. This taught me that even though one may be a complete stranger to another - kindness, generosity and faith will bring people together in a most extraordinary way.
