I like schmaltz at Christmas. But this is a cinematic tooth ache. The direction was so lethargic, I thought it would never end- it was a very long two hour running time. Everytime I thought it would wrap up, it would launch into a new subplot.

Crosby and Fitzgerald were both great, however I came away a little let down after watching much more finely tuned films over the past few days e. I realize that I'm comparing this to two of the greatest films of all-time, but this felt rather slow and prodding See what's on her Watchlist.

A group of very different individuals staying at a luxurious hotel in Berlin deal with each of their respective dramas. A middle-aged butcher and a school teacher who have given up on the idea of love meet at a dance and fall for each other. Youthful Father Chuck O'Malley led a colorful life of sports, song, and romance before joining the Roman Catholic clergy, but his level gaze and twinkling eyes make it clear that he knows he made the right choice.

After joining a parish, O'Malley's worldly knowledge helps him connect with a gang of kids looking for direction and handle the business details of the church-building fund, winning over his aging, conventional superior, Father Fitzgibbon. Going My Way is just great, no doubt about it. By now, if you're reading my review, you already know the players and the plot. I'm not sure if reviews are posted with the most recent first. However, I wanted to add my review because of just how powerful this movie is, even today.

As a young girl, I grew up on these types of movies. I watched them and appreciate them, however, not as much as I do today, now that I am a mother of two little girls.

I wanted to show them great films, for them to earn an appreciation of 'a feel-good movie' and I started with 'The Song of Bernadette'. My follow up was 'Going My Way' and they loved it -- so did my husband who had never seen it growing up. We're 70s kids, by the way, and 'Going My Way' has timeless relevance.
