The lettering gilt is very bright to front board with slight fading to the spine, the spine has a couple of small marks but the boards are very good, clean and sharp, tiny crease to the top right of the front board. Inside it is excellent, the hinges are very strong as can be seen in the pictures and the yellow inside pages are very bright as are the white pages that follow.

Four of the stories Jack Horner, Hickety Dickety, Ride a Cock Horse and Little Tom Tucker have abrasions from adhesive along the inner gutters with loss of color, two pages with short creases and closed marginal tears, and a tape repair to the rear corner of the front free endpapers.

Still a very good copy with strikingly brilliant illustrations in spite of these faults. Every page has bold, fabulous color illustrations by Denslow who also edited the text.

Fred Goudy hand-lettered the text. An incredible picture book, one of Denslow's best.

The text follows with one quatrain printed on the first page, with a floral headpiece. Subsequent text pages have two quatrains per page. Printed on parchment, one side of leaf only, with hand illuminated initial to each quatrain. The text is from the 4th edition. It is unusual that the book exists in its original boards. It was expected that the clients would want it custom bound for their personal library, as would be done by those collectors with the means to buy the set in the first place.

In its original cloth, this would be an unusual survival.
