Shades of Shame (Semper Fi Book 2)

Semper Fi Series

So for me not one I can really recommend. ARC was supplied via Netgalley for review. May 30, Diana rated it it was amazing. I waited for this book for what felt like forever. I loved Semper Fi, my heart melted for Logan! I could not wait to get my hands on the prequel as soon as I heard that there would be one! And I was not disappointed, Laura and Christopher Cooper out did themselves! I was completely shocked with every twist and turn!

I never thought I would like Leila but then again everything I thought I knew from Semper Fi was out the window by the second chapter! Highly recommend this series! Great story and h I waited for this book for what felt like forever. Great story and hot to boot!

However, behind closed doors their lived are different from what everyone thinks. While David and Elise love each other, they spend their time in the bedroom with different people.

Leila Johnson spends her time climbing the ladder so she tries to manipulate the Senator. She spends her time calculating her next move weather at work, or at home. She tries her best to manipulate those around her to better her life.

It was hard to read her because she always seems to have an ulterior motive. Logan McNarry makes a small appearance in this book, but this book is mostly about his parents and Lelia. Logan has fallen head of heals in loved with Lelia. The chemistry between them was great. I think in the end if Lelia was not so power hungry they would have been the next power couple. David McNarry seems to have a problem. His wife is well aware of his problem and seems to wander as well.

Books by Laura Cooper

All Elise wanted was for his extra marital affairs not to be thrown in her face. That seems to be her biggest issue, not his affairs. I loved how it explained the background of the McNarry family as well as telling the tale that was hinted and half-explained in the first book. I now understand the decisions that Logan made better.

I found this book very well written. I enjoyed how Laura and Christopher Cooper did not tell the reader who really killed Lelia but give you more suspects. Jun 05, Makayla rated it liked it. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers.

However, I found this book to have several inconsistencies in the story from the first book. There was no mention of the pregnancy; the first book made it seem like the Senator pushed for a marriage to get him off the hook with the illicit relationship with Leila and subsequent pregnancy; there was no mention of the scene where Leila was left tied to the nail in the closet for failing t SPOILER ALERT!!!

There was no mention of the pregnancy; the first book made it seem like the Senator pushed for a marriage to get him off the hook with the illicit relationship with Leila and subsequent pregnancy; there was no mention of the scene where Leila was left tied to the nail in the closet for failing to use the safe word; Gracie made it sound like Leila was constantly sneaking to the house to see the Senator, but this book read that it only happened once.

I wonder if the authors did a little revisionist writing of Leila's character to make her more appealing to readers?

I didn't go for it I read the first book several times because I so liked the story. I definitely don't remember feeling much sympathy for Leila after the first book, especially after the way Patricia and Gracie described her to Mattie, and I couldn't quite feel sympathy for her in this book either, although the author tried to write her as a character deserving sympathy. And further, if I recall, Elise in a moment of clarity in "Semper Fi" told Mattie that the Senator had someone at an auto shop tamper with the brakes of the vehicle because he was fearful of Leila ruining his chances for reelection with the pregnancy.

In this book, it doesn't even appear that he was concerned with her telling anyone about anything since the pregnancy was not even part of the plot line. The Senator wasn't even aware that the lid was off the secret until the night Elise took him into the playroom which was the same night that Leila and Logan were in the accident! I think I was a little disappointed with this one. It gets three stars for the scorching scenes May 30, Christine rated it really liked it. Shades of Shame — Laura Cooper 4 Stars Keep in mind that this book is a prequel to the first book in this series, Semper Fi, in which I had formed an opinion of a deceased character in it.

I thought she was a dirty pig who was out for herself and used anyone in her path to further her career. A selfish, lying bitch. Well, not totally wrong. She was no Mother Theresa but not the devil as I thought she was. I actually can say I liked her a little bit. It was nice to see her true feelings towards Logan and that she truly did love him. In reading Semper Fi, I saw the destruction and heartache she left behind and loved that I got to see how she got to that point to begin with.

Truths are revealed and while I liked and felt sorry for characters in the first book, I felt the opposite once I read this book and saw who they really were!!! Loved it and hope there is more to this series!!!!! Aug 11, Kara rated it really liked it. And because of this I couldn't get into the book We're given the history of Logan and his relationship with Leila. All the Review posted at: All the "baggage" he has in Semper Fi is from the occurrences in this book. I didn't feel connected to any of the characters in this book, except Logan who still makes me melt. The description of his looks is best in Semper Fi!!

I also felt this book moved along quickly in that scenes were jumped and I felt that I missed out on getting the details of parts if the book. Relationships also moved along quickly in this book.

The writing was great and I followed the story easily, just more detail would've allowed flowed smoother. Give it a try, followed by Semper Fi. Jul 09, Darcy rated it liked it Shelves: After reading Semper Fi , I was predisposed to hate all of the characters but Logan. Given the history that was talked about in that book I knew what was going to happen in this one, but still couldn't stop reading it.

I sure didn't feel sorry for Leila at all. I don't think that she would have been able to go through with what she talked about with Logan. Logan is the one that I really felt sorry for, he lost it all, but most especially any illusion that his parents cared. Jul 29, Wanda rated it really liked it. Leila and Logan have not seen each other in ten years and they both have changed. Their attraction is obvious the first night they seen each other after all those years apart. She seems to have little regard for other people. Logan is a level headed person, even though he grew up a privileged child.

The story takes a Leila and Logan have not seen each other in ten years and they both have changed. The story takes a number of twist I never seen coming. It actually turned into a tragically beautiful love story.

I feel this book was very well written, the characters were easy to understand and each had a very special part in the story. The plot developed very well, and there were defiantly a lot of detail sex scenes. Jul 06, Rjsmommy rated it really liked it Shelves: This is the prequel to "Semper Fi" and what surprising background info do you get from it. Because it will just shock you all the more. All is not what it seems in SF because you only get certain characters This is the prequel to "Semper Fi" and what surprising background info do you get from it.

Most surprising of all, is Logan's mom. Her secret is the biggest, and never revealed in SF. And I think that is for the best, because if Logan discovered what his mother had done, I believe it really would have destroyed him. At least in SF he thinks he has one sympathetic parent, if he knew the truth Sep 23, Janet rated it really liked it Shelves: I believe that this book is a prequel to the first book in this series, Semper Fi.

Semper Fi: Shades of Shame by Laura Cooper and Christopher Cooper (2013, Paperback)

I plan to pick up the first book and see what the fuss is about! I believe I will like it - I like this author couples writing style. Jul 25, Pamela rated it it was ok. I wanted to like this book, I really did. The plot setup, with high-powered Washington movers and shakers, the women who manipulate and in turn are manipulated, and spicy BDSM and love scenes should have worked. However, the characters begin as caricatures and once they develop any depth or hold my interest, the book is done! The ending was much too sudden, trite, and thoroughly unsatisfying.

It also attempted to cover too many relationships Each chapter could have been an outline for a well-d I wanted to like this book, I really did. Each chapter could have been an outline for a well-developed book on its own. I believe an opportunity was missed here.

As she spent more time with him, her plan took an unexpected turn which had her dazed and confused. After reading Semper Fi , I was predisposed to hate all of the characters but Logan. There are no discussion topics on this book yet. The story itself is a twisted, uncomfortable tale of seedy things that happen behind the scenes in the lives of politicians. Well, you learn something new everyday as I did not know that category existed.

I also am just not a fan of denigrating language. It just felt forced to me, and almost offensive and that's hard to do when it comes to sex scenes! Sadly, I do not see enough in this prequel to continue this series. Jun 06, Sapphire Kande rated it it was amazing. This book was nothing at all like I thought it would be. It was sooooo much more. I was expecting this kink filled story where love would eventually bloom.

What I was not expecting was this beautiful love story. Yes, there was some kink, but that is not what this enchanting story is about. I read and review a lot of sexy books and once in a while, a straightforward book comes along that presents sex as it should be--fun, fresh, rich and inventive. But to pretend these kinds of books have an resemblance or connection to a reading experience would be the lowest kind of delusion possible. I can't even bring myself to give it a rating. With the Senator squarely in her sights, Leila is positioned to add another notch on her bedpost as she pads her resume. Her sexual desires rival any man's, and the fact that she doesn't mind using people makes it all the easier. She likes her sex raw, carnal, and full of lust and passion, and if it helps her advance, all the better.

Senator David McNarry is nothing more than a strategic item in her checklist. The last time she saw Logan McNarry he was a skinny, silver spooned brat. However, dinner at the Senator's house was a bigger surprise than she ever imagined. Logan was all grown up now, and definitely not how she remembered him. He was nice, gentle, and a hopeless romantic. None of the things that would further her career.

His father, on the other hand, represented all she hoped to achieve: And the fact that the Senator had no problem using his interns, fit absolutely perfectly into her plans. Add in the handsome, rugged exterior that simply smoldered, it was a sexual play she was sure she could take advantage of.

And all would have gone as planned if she hadn't reconnected with Logan. As she spent more time with him, her plan took an unexpected turn which had her dazed and confused. A new emotion, one she was not familiar with, began to grow within her.

The more she saw him, the less she wanted the Senator.
