On my blog, it received a 3. That being said… Oh, for the love of exposition!
A little of that is quirky, but when practically the entire book is that way? At least to me. So, that was something. And I did want more of Ichabod and Persephone as narrators, as per the last book, and I got that too. So it did have that going for it. The ending was pretty good on the over all, and I did enjoy that. This is one of those stories that tickles. I found myself chuckling throughout the reading from the word play, foreign accents and innuendos and not.
Some travel is involved with fun mentions and description of Southern California sites of their times. There is also an attendance of an unusual Carnivalle. A love triangle makes an appearance as well during the pursuit of a bad guy named Sku Le'Bizarre. I would recommend reading the printed version as the presentation of the story includes a smattering of font styles in dialogue which creates a playful vibe.
There are also amusing skull images at the end of each chapter - such a variety. And of course, I loved the voodoo zombie presence. All opinions expressed in this review are my own. This is my third Temperance book, and it was again a very enjoyable ride. What I thought of was War of the Worlds comes to Alabama, which is funny to me but made for an intriguing angle. The opening flowed well and I really like that Bolt was still with us and played a big part. I ended up liking this one better than the second, because where the second felt really kind of out of control and kind of convoluted, this one felt like a much more coherent and organized plot and story.
That made it more This is my third Temperance book, and it was again a very enjoyable ride.
That made it more enjoyable for me to read. It was also more serious, I found, but I liked that too. It never lost its humor, though. Although the dude with the CT accent? Another interesting thing about this story is the way our author had to take modern things we all know, put them in his universe and let his characters figure out how to use and what to call them.
The names were amusing. It was also a fascinating concept for the creativity of the writer, the reader, and the character: There were less new characters joining their band of adventurers and the ones there were, were more cohesive and I really enjoyed them. I particularly loved the imagery of Clarabelle versus the cannon. Ichabod and Persephone continue to be adorable. And the final solution? I absolutely adore Ichabod and Persephone and their insane adventures set in a steampunk world of the past. In a funny little side note, the names of the town and the peoples inhabiting their world are a hoot. Jul 10, Clay Davis rated it really liked it. A fun story with over the top dialog and action comedy with elements of an Edisonade. Readers familiar with H. Though not the exact same story, it does seem to have something in common with the well known War of the Worlds, one of my personal favorites.
Despite the similarities, such as the tripod alien technology, the aliens originating from Mars, and their similar diet, this story is still a fun read. For the Love of Temperance is book 3 in the Temperance series. I like the cover. It reminds me of a vin Readers familiar with H. It reminds me of a vintage school book I'd used to have. The paisley blood-red pattern fitting as background for the bloodthirsty aliens from Mars. In fact, each cover is similar in the use of a paisley background, the color changing along with the picture, yet similar in format, which would look nice together as a complete set.
The list below includes links to Amazon where you may find more information on the series as well as on each individual book. For the Love of Temperance is approximately pages long and would be perfect to bring along on vacation or to read by firelight on a cold and stormy night.
Ichabod Temperance and Miss Persephone Plumtartt lead a large cast of both humans and animals, to battle and, hopefully, defeat the martians that have invaded Earth. Due to events from previous books in the series, the individuals involved have abilities that were effected, or rather, enhanced by the past event. Ichabod excels in the area of mechanics, Plumtartt in intelligence and more , Bolt the dog can communicate telepathically, and so on. What I enjoyed was not only the time period with the added steam punk technology, but also to quirky dialogue. Some may like the slow burning romance between Ichabod and Persephone.
Likewise, non-hominid animals become self-aware and intelligent. With book three of his Adventures of Ichabod Temperance series he has once again pulled off all of the above. It gets a little too much so towards the middle, but it picks you back up. The ending was pretty good on the over all, and I did enjoy that. My suspicion is that they're wanting to snack o.. Abn marked it as to-read Nov 17, Creatures appear in London, heading for Miss Plumtartt and Temperance comes to her aid.
But don't misunderstand and think this is a romance novel. There's only a bit of it sprinkled in here and there, very proper like. Most of it is science fiction and nearly constant action of fighting the aliens! If you enjoy science fiction, steam punk, or more specifically the stories of authors such as H. Wells and Jules Vern, you'll like this entertaining read.
There were a few parts that felt slow to me, but it was nonetheless a good story. I encourage readers to stick with it. You won't be disappointed. After finishing the novel, one thing stuck in my mind: Even something as innocent as a delightful evening watching a meteor shower turns in to a disaster or is that an opportunity?!
Can you imagine infiltrating such a creatures lair? It 's so addictive that once started it is impossible to put it down. I highly recommend this book! Ichabod and Persephone return in another hair raising adventure! This time the duo have returned to Miss Plumtartt's ancestral home in England where they have many strange characters lurking about and need the help of a popular Victorian Era detective to get out of the fix they're in alive! This was another charming edition of The Adventures of Ichabod Temperance. A funny story that is fun to read.
This is another amusing installment of the series. This time we get to return to Miss Persephone's home in England. Not only do we get to meet quite an interesting new cast of characters, but one literally famous literary detective as well. I have to say I am impressed with how the author works in a classic character, while at the same time making the character one of his own.
He also doesn't use someone else's creation to carry his story. His own characters shoulder that weight and keep the sto This is another amusing installment of the series. His own characters shoulder that weight and keep the story moving, exciting and funny all at the same time. Once again we also get to see the story from more than just the main characters points of view. I, personally, really enjoy getting to see the perspective of the supporting characters.

It gives a fresh and amusing view of the story, as well as the main characters themselves that otherwise one might not always see. I love the authors sense of humor as well. Even in the darkest hours it never takes itself too seriously. It helps to keep the book light and fun. I also really enjoy the way that the author finds a way for his characters to save the day that is always amusing and unexpected.
You never quite know how it's going to end. Even in this one there is a definite surprise at the end that I didn't see coming. Again, it involves how the author weaves the characters into the story, so I don't want to say more and give too much of the ending away. I have thoroughly enjoyed all of the books in the series. They are all quite capable of being stand alone novels. Even so, I still think that they should be read in order. I really can't wait to see what the author has in store for Ichabod and Miss Plumtartt's next adventure.
If you haven't read any of the books in the series yet, definitely go pick them up. With summer right around the corner, whether you pick up all the books out so far, or just the first few in the series, it will definitely give you something fun to read while you're relaxing on vacation. I can say that the books are addicting so if you read the first you'll want to read the rest.
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions expressed in this review are my own. Oh, my dear Mr. Temperance, what another frolicking romp you have taken me on! This is the fourth book in the Temperance series, and it was a fun little scamper through steampunk action-adventure.
Ichabod and Persephone maintain their status as Adorable. My only real complaint about this one is that is seemed to employ a lot more phonetic accents—spelling out the accent instead of just saying the character had one. It was hard enough to follow in several pieces of dialog, but the exposition written in it could make it tough to follow on the over-all.
Plus, a lot of names. Though the priest was a nice touch. Even so, you could follow along and enjoy the story, but I personally would have liked to see a bit less of it. It did hamper my enjoyment a little and I worry I missed things, so this one gets a 4.
