Trivia During casting it was difficult to find a pilot in the Screen Actor's Guild qualified and willing to fly the Piper plane in the jungle. For the movie the plane ended up being piloted by the real life Steve Saint.
I know in my mind that these experiences were extraordinary for the people involved, but I never really feel it. It was great to hear more details of the famous missionary story I read about growing up, and exciting to see how their sacrifice opened doors that are still impacting people today. The book begins with Aunt Rachel's funeral, and jumps around a little. I learned so much about a lifestyle so absolutely opposite from my own, part of me yearned to experience it too.
