I may well forgive someone for a deeply inflicted wound, but if the memory of that wounding crosses my mind, it will still hurt. How can you think of something traumatic without an emotional response? Rather, it means I sinfully chose to revisit the sin I had no right revisiting. What seemed hurtful to a 12 year old can appear downright monstrous to an adult, because with time and perspective we better realize how horrendous things like bullying, abuse, or other violations really are.
We pay a high price for growing up, one of which is the awareness of just how wrong the wrongdoers of our lives really were.

He approached her, extending his hand while asking forgiveness, and she froze. Miraculously, as God gave her strength to take his hand, she felt a rush of love flow from her arm right into his. Big amen to that.
I cannot in my own strength forgive, not really. As We Forgive Those.
Forgiveness can become harder with time and perspective. Finally, forgiveness is sometimes humanly impossible. Look inside the book: To allow so young and delicate a girl to tramp England aimlessly in search of some vague and secret information which seemed to be her erratic father's object, was, we decided, an utter impossibility; therefore, following that night of our first meeting at Helpstone, Burton and his daughter remained our guests for a week, and, after many consultations and some little economies, we were at last successful in placing Mabel at school, a service for which we later received her heartfelt thanks.
That the precious document, or whatever it was, sewn up in the wash-leather which the dead man had so carefully guarded through all those years was now missing was, in itself, a very suspicious circumstance, while Mabel's vague but distinct apprehensions, which she either would not or could not define, now aroused my suspicions that Burton Blair had been the victim of foul play.
About William Le Queux, the Author: He was also a diplomat honorary consul for San Marino , a traveller in Europe, the Balkans and North Africa , a flying buff who officiated at the first British air meeting at Doncaster in , and a wireless pioneer who broadcast music from his own station long before radio was generally available; his claims regarding his own abilities and exploits, however, were usually exaggerated. Le Queux mainly wrote in the genres of mystery, thriller, and espionage, particularly in the years leading up to World War I, when his partnership with British publishing magnate Lord Northcliffe led to the serialised publication and intensive publicising including actors dressed as German soldiers walking along Regent Street of pulp-fiction spy stories and invasion literature such as The Invasion of , The Poisoned Bullet, and Spies of the Kaiser.
