The Deepest Acceptance: Radical Awakening in Ordinary Life Hardcover – November 1, The Deepest Acceptance rings with the power and authenticity of Jeff Foster's deeply felt, deeply lived.
I know most of his listeners loved this book, based on the stars, but I found it to be repetitive and not very engaging. Everything about this book breaks the mold of traditional teachings about awakening. The author is the narrator. His enthusiasm and vitality shine all the way through. Easy as pie to understand right off the bat,as there are none of the traditional terms to learn nor traditional terms used in a new way. One can pick it up and use it after just one chapter. I've studied and practiced a lot of different teachings on this subject and was often at a loss as to how to apply there understanding to my everyday life.
Not so with Jeff Fosters's approach. I could start using it right away, and by the end of the book, he had covered every area and circumstance that i have ever found myself in or find myself in, today. I don't need any of the hundreds of books and recordings I have waded through for the last 33 years! Are you interested of listening to hours of your true nature talking to you through a different body mind than yours?
If you are, then this is the right audiobook for you. If you have never heard of Jeff Foster then I think this would be a great introduction to his work. I am a deep and committed follower of Adyashanti, if you like his or Eckhart Tolle's work you should like this. Jeff does get very, very repetitive about the wave and ocean analogy, but you can't really blame him because the apology is as good as any other that describes what's it's like to experience from our true nature. This was my next step.
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you? The book was so expensive. He seems like a kind and gentle soul, but he repeats the same stuff over and over again and his voice starts to really push down, rather than lift up. I am so determined to overcome some issues that have been plaguing me and I believe mindfulness and meditation are the best paths forward.
For that reason I was determined to hang in there. But I could only get about halfway through and had to stop. I couldn't listen to it for another minute.
I really did not find this audio book to be helpful. What do you think your next listen will be? I'm open to many new ideas. I love Pema Chodron, and will probably listen to all of her stuff. How did the narrator detract from the book? Please see first comment above. I hoe I get it sometime. Posted on December 22, Phenomenal insight into the ONE. Posted on October 27, I found myself weeping a lot as read this book. Its the deepest compassion expressed in words.
It reminds me of Rumi's quote, "Out beyond ideas of right and wrong, there is a field. I'll meet you there. Posted on October 22, In watching videos of Jeff Foster, what immediately comes across is his humility, vulnerability and warmth. The same qualities come across in this book. Jeff does a wonderful job of getting across the reality of the perfection of the moment and the acceptance of everything in the moment.

So refreshing and true Review by Audrey Rating. This sensation is a wave.
This sound is a wave. This feeling is a wave. These thought waves, sound waves, feeling waves, sensation waves are all the ocean of consciousness waving, dancing. Can you recognise that present experience is always simply a present-moment dance of waves, all happening in the vast ocean that you are?
What you are, as the ocean, simply watches as all these little waves of experience arise and fall, are born and die. And because it sees all of these waves, it is somehow beyond all of these waves. Beyond them, and yet somehow intimate with them. What you are sees everything, and yet it is somehow inseparable from everything it sees. From the perspective of the ocean, from the perspective of what you are, although the waves are all different in appearance, they are the same in essence. They are all water. And so, using this metaphor, you could say that the ocean knows that all the waves are simply part of itself.
Every thought, every feeling, every sensation that appears in you is simply the ocean dancing. The strong, violent waves as much as the soft, gentle waves — they are all water. And so, on the deepest level, the ocean does not have a problem with any of the waves, because it knows that none of the waves can threaten who it really is. There is therefore a deep okayness with all of the waves, a peace beyond understanding, which comes from recognising their basic inseparability from the ocean.
None of the waves can harm the ocean. None of the waves can destroy it. None of the waves can detract from it, and of course, none of the waves can add to it.
None of the waves are alien to it. And so whether the ocean appears as a thought wave, a pain wave, a fear wave, a sadness wave, or any other wave, the ocean knows that on the deepest level, all of these appearances are deeply okay. They all have their place in what you are. It has no choice but to accept. The ocean does not accept some waves and reject others — the ocean is the acceptance.
This acceptance of the ocean for its waves is beyond the conceptual opposites of acceptance and non-acceptance — the acceptance is the inseparability of the ocean and the waves, and as such it has no opposite.
Every wave is already accepted by the ocean. This is the deepest acceptance of life — that you as an individual cannot do. By the time a wave appears it has already been accepted by what you are. The appearance of a wave is its acceptance. The floodgates are open — this moment has already been allowed in. In a sense, what you are has already accepted the present moment, exactly as it is.
