This series just gets better and better. A impossible murder gets the ball rolling - one of those 'locked room' scenarios where no-one can work out how the killer got in and out of the apartment. Then an unfortunate hit-run accident that leaves one officer dead and another wounded.
But was it an accident? There is a developing sense of menace as Nikki Galena's team realise they are all targets of a ruthless and vindictive killer. But who is he? It appears he knows their every move and i 4. It appears he knows their every move and is always one step ahead of them.
The team is genuinely frightened as this killer can seemingly strike at will. There is great tension throughout. Nikki's team is just fantastic, you feel as if you really know and like these characters. And is that a budding romance developing between Nikki and Joseph Easter? Hmm, I'll have to pick up the next one before too long. Jul 03, Suemdavies rated it really liked it.
Another very good read in this Fen series. The twists and turns in the plot keep the reader guessing right to the end. The relationships between DI Galena's team and their histories are becoming more interesting with each novel. I read the book in two sittings and am now really looking forward to the fourth in the series. Jun 17, Theweebarrell rated it it was amazing Shelves: I chose to read an ARC of this book thanks to Netgalley for making this possible wow this series gets better and better with each new book i read.
This was another well written storyline that had me engrossed all the way through. Instead of slowing down the story picked up pace and had me turning page after page and not wanting to put it down. I really enjoyed this, the whole series is great but each one gets better and better. Jan 04, Breia rated it really liked it. Enjoying this serious very much, even the possible love interest. Onto book 4 after I race through a library book. Mar 14, Terri rated it really liked it Shelves: They're comfortable working partners and comfortable neighbors.
Their latest case is anything but comfortable. One of the outbuildings on Nikki's property is quite professionally torched, and it might have spread to her house if Joseph hadn't woken up to an unidentified sound and happened to see the smoke early on. Cat and a young officer newly assigned to the team are run down quite intentionall DI Nikki Galena and Detective Sergeant Joseph Easter have been working together for several years now. Cat and a young officer newly assigned to the team are run down quite intentionally by a truck. The young officer is killed, and Cat is badly injured with a real risk of severe scarring on her face.
Dave Harris discovers the carefully accumulated savings, which he relies on to pay for his wife's expensive care, has been drained by a hacker.
Each member of their team is being attacked in turn, in ways particularly painful to each of them. Police can expect to be hated by those they've locked up, or by the families of thipose they've locked up, but who hates the entire team this much, and this personally?
And of the possible suspects, who has all the specialized skills necessary? I haven't even mentioned the locked room murder that they initially think is their major case, with the arson on Nikki's property a distraction. Ellis continues to develop the characters and their relationships.
Greenborough has changed and developed, too. If she's going anywhere with the relationship between Nikki and Joseph, though, something should happen soon. It's a nicely intricate plot, and I just deleted what I was going to say there.
It risked being a spoiler. I bought this audiobook. I have really enjoyed this series and so I was excited to get to Hunted on the Fens and it did not disappoint. Joy Ellis really put her police team through the ringer. DI Nikki Galena and her crew have their work cut out for them when a series of events shows that the team and those around them are being hunted. They get creepy calls from the guy taunting them and it's a race against time to find out who he is before any more get hurt. This one was pretty intense!
I really like this series and the mystery was really good and I was rooting for them to find the bad guy and worried about something happening to the DI or Joseph. I was a bit surprised by who was doing it all. The characters are great in this series. DI Galena has had it pretty rough and it's made her a tough cop. Joseph has his demons too and a failed marriage with a daughter who isn't his fan. There is also a crack team of secondary characters who help keep things going as well. I am a huge fan of British crime novels and I really like this series and can't wait to get into Killer on the Fens.
May 29, Valerie Campbell Ackroyd rated it it was amazing. Fabulous, scary cyber crime I am reading all of the Joy Ellis books in sequence and each one gets better in my opinion. This one built up slowly although the beginning threat against the police team that has featured in every book was nasty from the start. For awhile the police spin their wheels as they try to understand which old crime has unleashed a criminal who seems to be able to understand their every move.

I was so drawn in that I was gnashing my teeth every time the criminal got the upper hand. I really like all of the regular characters in the book, each one is different but so very human. Ellis writes well about the life of a detective and a police officer.
I have no quibbles about the book at all. The writing is great, tight and not padded. When the criminal was revealed I was saddened but it all made sense. It is a great police thriller and I am looking forward to reading the next one. Apr 25, Ninaminacat rated it liked it. Not the best Nikki Galena novel I really loved the first two books in this series, but found this one a very slow starter which didn't have me utterly desperate to know more. I like the characters, but was surprised that I didn't immediately feel immersed in their world - though admittedly it is a year or so since I read my last Nikki Galena novel.

There is plenty of description of the different strands of two investigations - a feature which I normally enjoy tremendously, but somehow for much of the book seemed too drawn out, without a lot of excitement.
Once the action starts it is gripping stuff - but all too late in the novel for full satisfaction - added to which I worked out the identity of the killer tormenting Nikki's team far too early! Jun 09, johnmarkie rated it it was amazing. Aug 25, Jillian rated it liked it. Quite a page turner.
I still like the team focus of this series. I also like the balance it achieves between the sophisticated use of technology and face-to-face human interaction, recognising the importance and contribution of both. Reading another in the series has not changed my view that the plots needs simplifying. I accept that police procedure of necessity involves dead ends and false leads.
I think in this case, the last twist is a little ho-hum - clever, but more in the puzzle-solving t Quite a page turner. There is a lot to be said for an exploration of how personal issues impact on policing. It requires, I think, a bit more subtlety than this series has established so far.
Jul 08, Freda Pierce rated it really liked it Shelves: I love listening to this series, the narration is great. So this is now book 3 and the characters are really developing, but each book could be read as a stand alone. The writing is good, and I love the linear plot - no backwards and forwards in time here, just start at the beginning, tell a good story, don't give too much away so there are some surprises, build the tension, put your characters in danger, reach the climax and tie it all up nicely. This may be a little formulaic for some but it makes for a great audio book. I'll be listening to more.
Oct 18, Deborah Taylor rated it liked it. This series of books are always a good read, though I was less convinced by this one than the first two. It all got a bit extreme and pushed me to the limits of what I thought was believable. But, as always, it was pacey, engaging and easy to read. This series are my bedtime reading books at the moment - not because they send me to sleep, but because they instantly engage me. I forget about everything else going on and I unwind. The killer seems to know everything about each of them. Dave's money has disappeared. Nikki's barn has burned. Joesph's daughter is threatened. They are working hard to find the killer. He strikes killing a young officer and injuring Cat. She is in the hospital with a leg injury and an injured face that may be scarred for life. The team gets many clues as to who the killer is, but can't believe who the killer is. Hard to put down and better than the last book.
Jun 29, Teresa rated it it was amazing. I really enjoyed this book and love this series. I got the first one just on a lark to try something different. I am now getting ready to grab book 4 and start it. I read first 3 in order right in a row.
I am listening to audio in car and reading at home, and enjoying both ways. I enjoy the accents and this one had a lot of suspense with a couple of good twists. Good characters and good story. If you enjoy good police novels, try this series. It hooked me in.

I think they keep getting better! BUT she needed more details to move the plot along. There is a second book in this series, and I will probably read it because it is also set in Galena. Jan 29, Mendy rated it did not like it Shelves: I tried to read this one, really but I just felt like the author was filling space on the pages. I didn't even make it half way before giving up.
The dialogue and the descriptive writing kept repeating the same things over and over. I took the book back the library to get it out of sight. I'm bummed that I couldn't get through this one since the author is from the area I currently live. Jul 26, Kelly rated it it was ok.
I was looking for a light read at the library when I came across this series by a local author. It was a quick read though I had trouble staying engaged. The writing didn't hold my attention and much of the dialog was uninteresting. The story was not completely predictable, however, and I think the rest of the series has potential.
