Can Asa make his dream come true or will Could you see yourself taking in twin babies that are no relation to you and to care for them with limited questions asked? Can Asa make his dream come true or will a deep dark secret ruin his dreams? I am enjoying seeing writers of Amish fiction stepping outside of the box and writing more about real life problems we all face no matter if we are Amish or "Englishers". At the beginning of this book we learn that the babies mother had relations before marriage and tricked her husband into marriage.

We all know how common this story is to the "English" world but rarely hear or read about it in the Amish world. Hubbard does an excellent job of tackling this difficult story line while maintaining the strong Christian values of Amish life. Even with the sensitive subject Hubbard is able to tell the story without explicit scenes or language.

If you are a fan of Amish fiction but want more meat to the story line pick up a copy of A Simple Vow today. I think you will enjoy. The second book in the series, A Simple Wish, comes out on September 26, I'm looking forward to seeing how this series progresses. I'm just rating this book because that is my gorgeous cousin on the cover.

Illustrated by the incredible Tom Hallman. Oct 11, Annette rated it it was amazing Recommends it for: Hubbard has once again delivered humor and grace in her latest novel. I love revisiting with my old 'friends'. Apr 09, Kristina rated it really liked it Shelves: Edith Riehl steps out onto the front porch and hears people arguing.

Then she hears babies crying. She goes to investigate and finds two babies. Edith immediately picks them up and soothes them. His wife, Molly recently died from cancer leaving behind the six month old twins. On her deathbed she said the name Asa. Will found out that Molly was pregnant when she married him, but not by him.

Edith happily takes in the twins without consulting her father. Edith loves children, but Edith is unable to have her own kids thanks to an infection from a burst appendix when she was a teenager. Will was arguing with Asa Detweiler. He is accusing Asa of getting his Molly in the family way.

Asa has never heard of Molly and denies the accusation.

Asa promises Edith to get to the bottom of the situation. Asa is immediately drawn to Edith and does not want anything to stand in his way of courting her. Who is the father of the twins? Edith will have to contend with her penny pinching father who has not been in the best of moods since his wife passed away. Also, Edith feels that someone is watching her. Is she imagining it or is someone out there lurking? Will things work out between Asa and Edith? You will have to read A Simple Vow to find out.

It is a warm and welcoming town that is different from other Amish towns. Many women own and run businesses and the bishop is more open than most. There is a great twist that readers may or may not see coming I figured out but then I read many mystery novels. It contains good messages moral lessons on forgiveness, Christian love, and lending a helping hand Christian charity. A Simple Vow has a sweet ending. If you have not read the books prior to A Simple Vow, it can get confusing. This is the first book in a new series, but it is based on characters from a previous series of books Seasons of the Heart.

I give A Simple Vow 4 out of 5 stars I liked it. I will definitely be reading more books in the Simple Gifts series and any other books by Charlotte Hubbard. I received a complimentary copy of A Simple Vow from NetGalley in exchange for an honest evaluation of the book. May 01, Karen rated it really liked it. The dialogue perfectly fits in with the story. I know I will buy this book so I can reread it when I need that uplifting story to make me smile. Would I read other books written by this Author? Edith hears noises outside her home and goes outside to hear two men arguing in loud voices over who was the father of twin babies in one man's buggy.

Edith does what any reasonable woman does, she goes outside and grabs the babies who are crying and berates the men for acting like little boys. One of the men is Will, once her sister's fiance, and the other is Asa, a man accused by Will's late wife of being the father of the babies. The problem is that Asa has never met Will's wife, and Will is Edith hears noises outside her home and goes outside to hear two men arguing in loud voices over who was the father of twin babies in one man's buggy.

The problem is that Asa has never met Will's wife, and Will is too distraught in his own grief to think logically. In the meantime, Will wants Edith to take the twins and take care of them until he finds a more permanent solution. Asa is taken by Edith and wants to know her better. Things I wish about this book: Edith's father is secretive, autocratic, and dictatorial. I wish Charlotte had revealed what he was hiding, how he changed into a happier man by the end of the book, and truly what his objection was to Edith taking in the twins.

Asa's twin brother made some boneheaded decisions, played dirty with Asa, and generally created havoc in his wake, yet he was never called to confess his sins to the church. I understand this is a comman practice to call the recalcitrant back into fellowship within the Amish Church. He did, however, make restitution for his misdeeds. Things I love about this book: Edith and her sisters are incredibly lovable characters.

Each one has her own talent and it shines within the plot of the story. The use of several characters from previous books in the series is seamless and flawless. The way the Amish work together to help each other out is shown as a shining example of loving others as Jesus loves us. Charlotte has researched her subject well and works many of the Amish practices into her novels so that the reader learns something, finds encouragement, and is lifted spiritually as the book is being read. Five Stars, Two Thumbs Up, and the most darling twins you ever did see.

My thanks to Kensington Publishing for allowing me to read and review this book. Apr 18, Glenda Parker rated it it was amazing. This is a part of the Simple Gifts Series. I loved this book and enjoyed revisiting Willow Ridge. The book is well written, faith based, and the characters are moving. Her dominating father, a clock maker, traded his home in Rosewood with his cousin who lived in Willow Ridge so his cousin could help his mother. Edith was preparing for a wedding next to them when she heard an argument out front. Two men were arguing by a buggy and she could hear the shrill cry of a baby. She goes over to help the child.

She finds the man who was once courting her sister in Rosewood accusing the tall stranger of fathering his twin babies; which the man denies. Edith stops the quarreling and agrees to care for the babies while they sort things out. Edith is unable to have children so she becomes deeply involved with these children. Asa Detweiler received a message saying a dying wife said he was the father of a set of twins. He had never heard of the mother let alone father these children.

He takes off to find out what is going on. He is instantly drawn to the young woman who stops the argument. He helps her up into the buggy and promises her he will find the children's real father if she would promise to care for the babies. As he is leaving town he is run off the road and is seriously injured. He becomes much closer to Edith and the children as he is forced to stay in town. A journey of two loving hearts thrown together by two sweet little babies.

A simple vow is a modern Amish tale, entering on the lives of the Riehl family, in particular, Cornelius Riehl's youngest daughter, Edith.

Edith quickly finds herself offering to care for the twins until their alleged father sorts out their true parentage. There follows a complex route to a new life for Edith and the twins, compounded by hints that all may not be quite as it seems with Cornelius - maybe he is the subject of book two? I was surprised to read that this is the first book of a series - it's well written, and engaging, but through the first couple of chapters I felt that the author was maybe reviewing past information from previous books. Willow Ridge is full of interesting Characters, and I feel sure there is enough material there for several more books - either following different families, or by continuing the observations about how Edith's life develops - I was certainly left wanting to know how her story develops after the ending of this volume!

An easy, engaging read, which like so many Amish stories leaves me hungry with the descriptions of celebratory and everyday meals, yet challenging in so many ways.

In the Amish community there is peace and love not lies, deceit, and mystery. This is a very good book. It is fast moving and takes you through the lives on not only Edith and her family but also through the whole community of Willow Ridge. I very much enjoyed this book and cannot wait for the next book in the series. Apr 16, Pam Pavkov rated it it was amazing. Charlotte not only hit a home run she got a grand slam with this book. I was instantly taken back to the little town of Willow Ridge and introduced to a very sweet Amish young lady, Edith Riehl.

In anticipation of the wedding of Ira Hooley and Millie Glick, Edith steps out on the front porch and that's where we begin her wonderful adventure. Characters from previous books are reintroduced and it's like no time A Simple Vow is the first book in the Simple Gifts series written by Charlotte Hubbard. Characters from previous books are reintroduced and it's like no time as lapsed since the last book.

Charlotte weaves the former characters with the new in a very unusual story of love and deceit. There is a tall, dark haired, and handsome Amish man by the name of Asa, who receives a mysterious phone message which leads him to Willow Ridge to find answers. How will a set of six month old twins help to solve this mystery? How does Edith explain to her dat the reason for the twins living in their home? Why does Edith feel like someone is watching her every move! A Simple Vow is filled with alot of twist and turns. Just when you think things are starting to get figured out something else happens which keeps you wanting to read more.

This story will fill your heart with sorrow, disappointment, and great joy. It will also show you what the power of forgiveness can do. I received a complimentary copy of A Simple Vow in return I am submitting my honest review for an outstanding book. I have also rated this book with 5 stars for a well written book.

Congratulations Charlotte Hubbard and I will be anxiously waiting for your next book! Sep 14, Judy rated it it was amazing. This is the first "Amish"book I've read. I read a lot of Amish fiction, and some of it can be rather melodramatic. But, this was the most melodramatic by far. I knew the premise of a questioned Amish paternity case was going to be flirting with the line of how much improbability I can handle. I say "yet" because I have the fee After having read many of this author's previous books, I must admit that I approached this one with trepidation! I love revisiting with my old 'friends'. A Simple Vow is focus on Edith Riehl's verbal vow to care for infant twins because it was unclear who the father was. Charlotte weaves the former characters with the new in a very unusual story of love and deceit. Will was arguing with Asa Detweiler. On the reverse side, Asa claims he never even knew Will's wife, and he certainly didn't father them!

It wasn't just a case of unlikely events occurring repeatedly, like when someone somewhere will occasionally flip a coin and get heads 10 times in a row. It also was lousy characterization. The final deep end event was never really understandable, the character's motivation or what was hoped to be accomplished. And the resolution and forgiveness was too cheap and unbelievable.

Just very shallowly handled. Overall, the book was melodramatic with shallow characterization. The book really reads like the Harlequin romance novels I read as a kid, including the one sensual but not sexual scene early on. It's not the quality of Amish story I prefer to read. Jul 01, Pam Burke rated it it was amazing Shelves: If you are already a fan of her books and if not, you really should be , you may recognize some "old friends" as she takes us back to the fictional Amish community of Willow Ridge, Missouri.

As usual, some of Charlotte's characters stretch the limits of the most conservative Amish factions and find themselves in some interesting -- and sometimes sticky -- situations. A new family has moved to town, a somewhat secretive and stern deacon with his three unmarried daughters; and their lives get pretty complicated with the addition of twin infants and some young Amish men from out of town. Charlotte outdid herself with a plot twist that caught me completely off guard.

I will avoid spoilers and just say you will have to read the story for yourself. And even as the main story wraps up at the end of the book, there are questions to carry over into the next installment in the series. This new Simple Gifts series promises to be another great set of stories. You can definitely enjoy them on their own, but if you're interested in background details, I would highly recommend you check out Charlotte's Seasons of the Heart books.

Fans of great Amish fiction should enjoy The Simple Vow. Thanks to the author for providing a copy in exchange for my honest review. Apr 09, Melissa rated it really liked it. I have not read many of Charlotte Hubbard's books but the ones that I have I have enjoyed immensely. She has a way of writing that makes me relax and enjoy the story.

A Simple Vow really had me turning the page and riveted to what was happening next. I will say the end of the book had such a major twist that I had to read it twice. Edith Riehl and her family recently moved to Willow Ridge. They and their father are starting a new chapter in their lives. When baby twins are suddenly thrust i I have not read many of Charlotte Hubbard's books but the ones that I have I have enjoyed immensely. When baby twins are suddenly thrust into her life, she sees this as a sign from God. But will she be able to fulfill the role as their mother? Will she have to give her dreams?

Asa Detweiler has no idea why someone would accuse him of something so dishonest. Determined to clear his name, Asa is drawn to Edith's kind gentleness. He is determined to gain her trust and possibly her love. My only concern with this book is that I feel one must read her other Willow Ridge Series, Seasons of the Heart, in order to keep all of her characters in this book straight. I plan to begin the series so that I may learn about these fascinating characters in Willow Ridge. I received a copy through Netgalley in exchange for my review.

Charlotte Hubbard has written another wonderful story. Her writing draws you in so you feel like one of the community of Willow Ridge and before you know it you want to break bread with the life like characters. This is the first book in a new series called Simple Gifts.

There are some returning characters from Ms. I have to say this is a totally new story line from the usual Amish books I have read in the past. Over all if you are a lover of Amish stories, Charlotte Hubbard is one of the best authors to read as her stories are so life-like. Apr 18, D. Charlotte Hubbard has a gift for writing amazing Amish stories! But when she is asked to keep them — and care for them, what will her dat think?

Most of our favorite characters from the Amish of Willow Grove are back in this new series, with a few new ones. Well, at least most of them. I can tell this series will be just as exciting — and just as much fun, too. Jun 03, Rosemarie rated it really liked it. Come scrivere un'ottima recensione.
