In Kidnap, she gets quite an exhausting workout, and so does the audience.

The only way Kidnap could possibly work is if the viewer isn't paying attention. Kidnap may strain plausibility, but it's no more absurd than Taken, and it's a kick to watch Karla, a woman with no particular set of skills, become a capable warrior based on pure maternal ferocity. Frankly, it should have stayed missing. For all of Berry's breathless, screechy effort, "Kidnap" doesn't contain any suspense or tension. This movie would have been better suited for Lifetime.
It feels like an honor to have experienced firsthand the worst movie of the year, and perhaps the decade. I'm not exaggerating, either.

It's one of those movies that make me go, "why did I watch this? Unfortunately, the creative team behind Kidnap appear more interested in staging traffic pile-ups than giving their Oscar-winning lead something substantial to chase after. Halle Berry stars in the indie thriller Kidnap. While at a park a single mother's child is abducted out from under her, lead her to get into a high-speed car chase; knowing that if she loses them she'll never see her son again.
Key points:
Berry gives a really strong performance and director Luis Prieto does a good job at keeping the film in the main character's perspective; adding to the tension and suspense. And the stunt work is especially well-done, making for some really incredible car crashes and fight scenes.
Yet the film is kind of limited in where it can go and what it can do.
Still, despite having a few weaknesses, Kidnap is a gritty and exciting chase film that's remarkably intense. Stereotypes everywhere I agree, yes?
Poorly crafted and pretty predictable, I do wonder how Halle Berry got to making movies like Kidnap.
