Happy to put the day's events behind him, Jonas treats Jimmy, the gawky, young town mortician who idolizes him, to a night of debauchery at the local whorehouse Nuthin'. The next evening, to satisfy his curiosity, Jonas visits Gretchen Herzallediebst in her cell. He is smitten by her beauty and wit Who Are You? In return for her "favors", Jonas is persuaded to buy her some more time by hiding his chair and convincing the warden that it was stolen Reasonable Man.

Ambrosial Sadhana

Gretchen's lawyer, not satisfied with that, discovers the hiding place and disables the chair with a fireaxe. Jonas must take the chair to the local fix-it shop for repair, where the sight of it creates quite a stir among the locals Step Right Up. Unable to stay away, he visits Gretchen again and is seduced even further Too Bad. Jonas comes up with a plan to save Gretchen. When the chair is ready, he will proceed with her execution, but give her only enough voltage to knock her out.

Meanwhile, he will have struck a deal with the dissolute prison doctor to pronounce her dead and persuaded Jimmy to carry her out like a cadaver with no one the wiser. Doc is reluctant, saying that it's too risky and won't work. Jonas demonstrates his theory on a prison rat The Rat is Dead. The Doc finally agrees to play his part … for a five hundred dollar bribe! Jonas vows to somehow raise the money and free Gretchen Step Right Up - reprise.

Lewis briefly left the touring group to be replaced by Bruce Hornsby , four years before his own rise to stardom.

The same year, Ambrosia released their fifth and final studio album, Road Island May [8] , their first effort without the assistance of Freddie Piro's production company. Produced by James Guthrie , the album consisted of intense, driving hard rock outside of the soft ballad "Feeling Alive Again" and the progressive rock closer "Endings". The band broke up afterwards, ending their run of chart success.

After Ambrosia, David Pack pursued a solo career and produced or worked with many top artists. Joe Puerta became a founding member of Bruce Hornsby and the Range. In Ambrosia reunited with all four original members and began playing live shows again, mostly on the West Coast. They expanded their touring ranks once again with Tollak Ollestad vocals, keyboards, harmonica and Shem von Schroeck vocals, percussion, bass, guitar. In , the band expanded their annual touring schedule. Pack had a conflict and guitarist John DeFaria filled in for him.

Bernie Chiaravalle likewise stepped in the summer of and Mike Keneally did the honors in and for the concerts Pack was unable to play. Brian Stiemke subbed for an ill Burleigh Drummond for a few shows in In May Warner Bros. In addition to Anthology , the entire Ambrosia catalog was remastered and released on CD.

The band launched a 30th anniversary tour in Early the following year, it was announced that Pack had permanently left the band and he was replaced by Doug Jackson , who had filled in for him for some shows the previous year. Pack's final show with the band was on November 4, in Chandler, Arizona.

Mister subbed for him. Ricky Cosentino filled in for Shem for some concerts in , , and Shem then left in to join Kenny Loggins ' band. Tollak Ollestad left in late to concentrate on a solo career and relocate to the Netherlands where he has had success. Lewis then returned, after having substituted for Tollak on some and gigs.

Later in , Rick Cowling formerly with Kenny Loggins came in on vocals, guitar and keyboards, though Tollak still appeared with the band from time to time, most recently in when Doug Jackson was out playing guitar for Gary Wright and Tollak handled keys once again while Cowling moved over to lead guitar until Jackson's return later in the year. Since , Burleigh Drummond's wife Mary Harris , after filling in on a show or two since , has become a permanent band member on keyboards and vocals.

Harris is also a vocal arranger and songwriter, who has co-written new material for Ambrosia performed onstage. Ken Stacey rejoined in after Rick Cowling departed.

Ambrosia's current six-person lineup has been stable since that time, and the group continues to tour, sometimes combining their talents with other artists including Michael McDonald , Edgar Winter , Dave Mason , Gary Wright , Al Stewart and others. Ambrosia's live performances showcase both their legacy hit material and more recent songs.

Ambrosia continues to feature a majority of the band's founding members, with Puerta, Drummond and North onstage, as they have been for the past twenty five years. This album, Live , was released in May Of or worthy of the gods; divine. Pertaining to or worthy of the gods.
