The staff was very cooperative. The food was always cooked fresh and was tasty. The only sounds you hear is of the river and the birds.
Only one very minor complaint - the shower took a good 10 minutes or so to heat up properly. But aside from that, everything was perfect. We loved the location, right on the river with the rapids crashing merrily by all the time. The restaurant food was delicious. As the property is not secured with borders, feels little insecure at night. The ambience is next level awesome, loved it. Nothing like that, everything seems to be good. Best option if you would like a stay along the valley of two three hills.
Bargain filters can be thin, affecting the brewing process. It is possible to swim in a pool in the river below the property. Enter your email address and we'll send you our best deals Subscribe. This called for several rounds of testing and resulted in a very hyper work environment. Brew time varied considerably.
This is an excellent choice if you want a simple, quiet and undisturbed stay Rude staff, not friendly, reception is not reachable most of the time, insects in the bathroom, room facilities need to be improved, food spread was very limited,. Location was good, super river view. The price is too much. Yes the location is great, the views are amazing but still the cost you have to pay is a bit high.
The view from my window was just breathtaking. A place like heaven i felt when i been there for couple of days The staff sometimes called a bit too much to the room out of hospitality, which is friendly and nice, but at the same time it's a place of rest and then you don't need to be disturbed perse. This might also be because it was low season and I was the only guest in their new facility. I checked out 2 facilities of theirs, the one next to the river and one inside of the jungle, both surrounded in nature.
The complimentary tracking tour in the tea fields was really nice as well Too bad the weather didn't permit me to do a tracking in the mountains the days after.. If you want a nice private room, with good facilities, a great view and great breakfast, book here.. I did have the feeling it's a bit more for couples though, but would rebook.
The room and bathroom were quite dusty and old compared to the pictures posted online. Staff had left the window open to air the room however this allowed bugs into the room, we had to clean out bugs from our bed. Would have been a higher rating if the room was maintained better! The view was very good and was lovely to wake up to the sounds of the river and nature all around us. The staff were friendly and helpful. Food was quite good as well. The walls, bed, linen, towels and toilet weren't clean.
The food was okay and options limited. Kerala cuisine should be included in the menu. When complained about the cleanliness, they immediately cleaned and painted the walls. Located away from Munnar and risky hair pin roads to reach resort. Monsoon will be difficult due to slippery roads. Still you will enjoy the view from resort and river flowing opposite to your room.
View from cottage was amazing, construction of the resort is unique, Staff were helpful and knowledgeable, Santosh was extremely helpful in assisting us beyond his capacity. Shower curtains, dustbins, and the bathroom walls were dirty. Toiletries can be better. Staffs are very courteous. They do their best.
The location of the resort is great a little far from Munnar town though. The food is also good. Balcony view and cottage position will make us feel like we are in middle of forest. The room floors are damp due to the weather. Bathrooms are slippery due to the fungal layer on them. Also rooms need to be maintained better as I could find insects like cockroaches inside the room. We had rented two cottages. The View from was amazing. It overlooked the river and the deep forest. Whole night we could hear the sound of the river flowing by.
We walked down the rooms to get a closer look at the river and spend some time on the rocks. The Chef Adarsh made amazing customised food for us. His recommendations were incredible. Breakfast is good too. Staff is very courteous. There are cycles for us to explore closeby areas. The hotel tricks customers by putting "Goods and Services Tax" separately even in the final page of the booking where customers might not notice it. Every other place including hotels down the road like "Rivulet" puts the final total price correctly on the last page on the booking with the message "No Surprises!
You can try this yourself on booking. I have stayed a lot on booking. Approaching road is not in good condition, also no sign board on the way to the property. Good climate and a very good ambience, excellent location. Food was very hot n tasty. The room and bathroom feel dirty.
For the price it is not worth it at all. They give you a menu with half of the items unavailable. I highly recommend you stay somewhere else. We booked for 2 nights but wanted to leave within the first hour. Secluded in the middle of nowhere. But its quite far away from Munnar city, you definitivly need a car to get there.
The view from the villa balcony was goergous! Breakfast was great, especially because of the lovely scenery in front of the house when you eat it on the balcony. The rooms are spacious and clean. The staff is really nice and helpful. We also liked the small trekking tour trhough the tea plantations. Since I was looking for relaxation.
Since Munnar is all about tea estates and mountAins, there is no point staying in one. Coz the entire day we will see that only. This was extremely beautiful and a different experience. Comfortable small rooms and the moment you move out there is a free flowing river. Beautiful it is Food was good too. It is very difficult to reach the resort. There are no sign-boards on the way. And very few local people actually have heard of this resort. The best way to reach it is to follow the sigh of rivulet another resort. It is located around meters away from rivulet. The bed sheets were not very clean.
Charging Rs including taxes are a little on the higher side. But what we found is that the charges are a little high in general in Munnar across all resorts. There are no view of tea estates from the resort. The location is good provided one is not besotted with the view of tea-gardens.
It is situated right on the bank of a stream. One could see the stream flowing beneath from the balcony. The resort is surrounded by numerous trees. The staff were very friendly.
They even arrange a complimentary trek that takes one to tea-gardens. There are bikes free available to roam about in the neighborhood. Overall a cozy place to stay.
There is limited choice nearby in terms of restaurants. The location next to the river is really lovely, great for an early morning and late evening stroll. A complementary tour around nearby tea gardens was provided and that was also great! There are 6 cottages altogether. Ours was at the bottom beside the river. We stayed for 5 nights. The area was very beautiful and we had a wonderfully quiet relaxing stay.
Room service appeared to be standard, so although there was a small basic restaurant next to the reception guests tended to take meals in their rooms. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Amazing location along with very clean and neat cottages. The staff was very helpful in terms of room service as well as helping us out with local transportation. Food options are limited but the cooking is very good The trek organised by the hotel is a wonderful experience. The location is fantastic - if you like it peaceful, quiet and slightly remote.
Big room, great bed and lovely balcony. The bathroom had water leaking from 1 pipe and floor was wet, Food diner should improve since after sunset nothing close around. Staff were outgoing Room was very clean, bed very comfortable, view from the balcony amazing, breakfast very good lots of choices, if you have problems to climb stairs ask for an upper floor cottage.
Overall it was nice but I found it bit pricey. The surrounding of the hotel was amazing. We got a cottage with a river facing. It was amazing to sip a cup of coffee with an amazing view. Communication was a bit of an issue particularly regarding the tea plantation walk, however if you are willing to just go with the flow it's not a big problem.
The setting of Moselberg is absolutely beautiful. Laying in bed, surrounded by greenery and listening to the river was one of the most peaceful experiences of our trip. The highlight was the tea plantation walk with an incredibly knowledgeable and friendly guide. Bad service, there was no one to receive us on the reception or to take care of the luggage. No English channels were available. After dinner they ask you to keep the plates outside the door. Food is not great as well. Neither is the tea or juice. Location is super , staff also very friendly. The rooms r designed for 2 adults so any one looking to visit this place with 3 adults will feel room is compact so do not think of taking a extra bed.
The breakfast could be better. The location is far, about 15 km of Munnar center. So you should add taxi charge inr one way in your budget. The staff, the location and hot water the view is beautiful and fascinating. Slightly lower to walk down and the landmarks on main junctions was not there, so could not locate the property while on the drive. The Location the people and the facilities.
Went for a new year party , but got totally spoilt Booked 2 cottages got one on top and one at bottom inspite of requesting several times for two together. Out of full menu card we're handed over a fixed menu , refused to provide evening snacks because busy with dinner Staff was helpful, but they had their limitations. The staff does not really speak English. Service is especially slow even in indian standarts.
Facilities a little run down especially bathroom. Nice view ecology oriented. The room was not like the photos on booking. It was a huge let down, especially bathroom. It was mouldy, smelly, dark and you could see the clear signs of repair work that they have done very badly done. This was sold as luxury cottage but there was nothing luxurious about the place.
We had to ask them to change the cover of the duvet as it had seriously large marks on it. Staff worked very hard like in so many other hotels that I stayed in Asia in the last 3 months. In my view most hotels on booking. The nature was amazing but again everything is in the middle of nature. Bathroom could be kept more clean. Also 2 bathroom window panels were transparent.
Nothing of interest to kids, like a small Play area to make them engaged. Room was too cold during the night. Need to have some heating option or seal the glass window perfectly. Not suitable for a family with small kids. The cleanliness of the room and river view from balcony. Almost similar to a tree house.
Hospitality was really good. Food was also good. It is very nice place but far about 15 km from Munnar. Comfort staying and very good breakfast. Plus they offer free of charge walking tour for hours. The location and views are fabulous. Food was also very good, but the range was a bit limited. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The location is beautiful - I would stay again, but be aware that a little distance from Munnar.
I got a message from the property before we checked in to say the price quoted included taxes. But then taxes were added anyway so it was more expensive than I had planned. I asked them to stop but they did not. The rooms are very nice and the decor is good. They are not very dirty, but they need a regular really thorough clean of tables, floors, windows and bathroom fittings. The location was amazing. Beautiful, in a rural valley, and you could wander down to the riverside or on the road to look at views. The individual huts made it feel special and private.
The staff were very friendly and made sure we had the nicest room. They helped out with planning trips and making arrangements. The free guided trek in the morning was also excellent. The guide was really knowledgeable and this was a real bonus to staying here. Breakfast was nice and very generous Toast, cereal, fruit, omelette, appam, pancakes etc, freshly prepared and as much as you wanted.
The menu was a bit limited. Although the food was pretty good, quite a lot of things are permanently not available. Location was excellent, the whole concept with the little houses is a nice idea. Although quite chaotic at times, the staff was trying hard to make us happy, and they did! We also enjoyed the food! Food was fine but can be improved. The room was amazing. The view from the window was heaven. Room were well maintained. Host were very polite. Cottages are just beautiful. Only food needs to be little improved. Too remote for Munnar and transport there expensive.
Needs shuttle to sister property where possible to walk to public transport. Menu could be improved. Picturesque view in valley, obliging staff, good walk through plantations with excellent guide. The property did not maintain the WC floor and the no slippers for the guests. The cottages situated near the Pallivasal mountain stream, and the cottages are build by natural materials. Hello travelers, just open the windows to hear stream sounds along with pleasant mist.
Lastly, an ideal place for yoga. The lighting in the Cottage was harsh - only brightly lit bulbs, no night lamps or smaller source with dim lighting 4. The bathroom mirror ought to have a light. It would be good to provide Cotton slip ons for guest so that both the feet and floor remain happy. The location and the Serenity of the location, and the western cottage style accommodation of the property was the biggest plus. Wish the property had some facility on the stream side like a sit out or something. Food was good ; neither fine dine nor pedestrian.
The preparation of the North Indian food was authentic. Wish they had some more continental options. The Salas in the menu were all fruit based, but you cannot expect a small setup with just units to provide a full Restaurant menu. Public transport was not available here. Although taxi can be arranged by the hotel. The room was clean but cosmetically the hotel should invest in updating bits of the furniture as it looks a bit worn out. However I think this the standard across India. Breakfast View from the room Friendly and helpful staff Room service food The trek Location, it was peaceful Hot water to shower with.
They needed a several signs along the way to the hotels.
We stopped so many times to ask for directions because there was no sign. The hotel is quite a way from town so you need your own transportation. Good hot water and good WiFi. The SCAA has set standards for brew time as well. They require that brew time last more than four minutes but no longer than eight. Brew time varied considerably.
We noted that prime performance occurred between the eight to ten cup capacity. If more water than that had to be shuttled through the machine, the task simply could not be completed in time. We performed this test with two iterations. The first time we used exactly eight cups to match the capacity of our smallest machine , then in the second test we loaded each reservoir with the maximum capacity. In both iterations, only the Bonavita , Moccamaster and the OXO were able to brew a cup in the prime amount of time.
The Bunn was able to brew efficiently as well but it has many shortcomings which is why we took it out of the running for this test. We used the Javelin PRO digital thermometer to measure the water temperature[4] when it began brewing and then measured again five minutes later. To ensure that we were getting the water temperature as it hit the coffee grounds, as the SCAA requires for certification, we inserted the Javelin right above the grounds where the shower head disposes the water.
The SCAA also has relatively strict requirements for temperatures in the carafe after brewing, which we also tested. Not surprisingly, the three priciest models were the only coffee makers to come close to upholding this standard. The Bonavita and the Moccamaster both came close, passing the first test but losing heat in the second. Now we get into the fun stuff. After watching these coffee makers in action for the above testing, we brewed a few pots in each machine for tasting.
We opted to do both a blind and an open trial to get feedback on functionality as well as pure taste. The eight of us involved in the taste testing are coffee addicts who drink multiple cups a day, both home-brewed and from our favorite local coffee shops. Brew Methods — We did several rounds of taste testing over the course of a few days and brewed with two methods:. The first round following SCAA guidelines had far more polarizing results.
The scores ranged much more dramatically than when we followed each individual manual.
The Moccamaster , the OXO and the Bonavita all required the same amount of grounds as the SCAA standard which may be why they are all on their list of certified home brewers. As for the other three machines, the amount of coffee was cut in half. It is interesting to note that while the range of results was much higher in the test that made use of the SCAA scale, the order remained the same.
The OXO came in first and the Bunn took last place. Each maker also came with a recommended serving amount of coffee grinds per cup of water. The OXO and the Moccamaster both came with their own serving scoops which resulted in the highest ranking coffee according to our taste test. Surprisingly, when we followed the instructions in the user manual, the Cuisinart coffee was even stronger.
Again, the results followed in the same order with the OXO taking first and the Bunn coming in last. During both tests, we asked all participants to rank each coffee on a scale from one to ten on smell, taste, strength and bitterness. We gave them a minute to enjoy each sample and offered water and plain biscuits in between cups to help neutralize their palettes. The floor was also open for any additional feedback.
The OXO took first place overall. It scored third in bitterness in both tests, which we considered ideal as we prefer our coffee to be strong but not overly bitter. When the results were averaged, the OXO won in all versions of the test that we performed. It produced coffee with a pleasant aroma and a strength that will wake you up without the biting bitterness.
The Bonavita came in second place. It ranked highly for both taste and bitterness. If you do not like strong bitter coffee, this is not the machine for you. The Moccamaster narrowly scored third place, with similar scores that were just slightly lower than the Bonavita. The Moccamaster was notably less bitter than the Bonavita. It was also mentioned by several participants that coffee this machine produced was not particularly hot. Cuisinart scored well in strength and bitterness, balancing out the lower taste and smell results.
The one positive comment we heard repeatedly was the nice temperature. Our office likes their coffee hot. The OXO won first place in our series of taste tests. It scored the highest marks in taste, strength and smell. Hamilton Beach is a budget buy that produces mediocre coffee that will keep your office going, but may not have them running back for more. The Bunn coffee maker was not made for taste, it was made to be efficient.
It scored poorly across the board. It lost in strength and bitterness and got the second worst results in taste. While each machine brewed a drinkable cup of coffee, the user experience was not created equal. Many of these had slightly aggravating quirks that either resulted in a mess or a less than seamless initial brew. The Bunn was not even part of an initial group test because it took so long to figure out how to get the machine started. All other coffee makers can be operated without really looking at the manual. With The Bunn, you will need the instructions, YouTube tutorial and a time machine so you can just avoid the whole experience.
You have to pour water in the reservoir, allow that to heat up and then brew as normal. This may not sound atrocious, but try emptying and cleaning it and get back to us. Aside from the Bunn, none of the coffee machines we tested had any flaws that would prevent us from buying again.
The Bonavita has a reservoir that is slightly difficult to fill, but you will only make this mistake once. It also has a brew basket that only attaches to the carafe which means fewer pieces; however, you have nowhere to place the wet, leaking basket when you go to pour your coffee. The Moccamaster has a durable yet lightweight build, but also has a lot of loose plastic parts that could easily go missing. It has a cool sensor feature that prevents brewing unless the thermal carafe is placed properly, which helps to prevent spills. Cuisinart has a lid design users had trouble with because it had to be removed in order to fill the reservoir.
Said reservoir also had a narrow opening that led to several spills. When it came to price, there was a notable range of several hundred dollars between the most and least expensive models we tested. The Hamilton Beach is a cost-effective model that markets itself as two for the price of one because of the single-serve option. While we had several complaints with the single-serve option, this was a solid option for the price albeit slow to brew. Each step of the brewing process from filling the reservoir to enjoying your cup was a breeze.
In fact, it is so quiet and easy to use that our team asked if they were using it properly. You need only select your cup amount and wait until the reservoir is empty. Testers appreciated that this machine was simple and fine-tuned in every detail. The only complaint heard from any of our participants was that you cannot see through the aluminum pot to know how much is left, which can lead to disappointment when the afternoon fatigue hits and there is no coffee left.
While it did have a brew time of 8: This resulted in a strong, slightly bitter and piping hot cup of coffee. The seasoned coffee drinkers in our office were delighted. In terms of design, the OXO was a crowd favorite. It had the fewest amount of delicate attachments and a sturdy composition that can handle a high volume of use. It also looks incredibly sleek and modern.
This is not an unsightly kitchen necessity; it is a welcome futuristic-looking addition. We have to qualify this by saying that bitterness was ranked as a negative rather than a positive. If you prefer bitter coffee, the Moccamaster might be a better fit for you. Overall, The Bonavita brewed a wonderful, balanced and nutty cup of coffee in just six minutes. It came within three degrees of maintaining the temperature recommended by the SCAA. This was likely due to the fact that it had practically finished brewing by the time five minutes had passed and we measured the temperature again.
Without any bells and whistles, this maker is built with one purpose, delivering a consistent and reliable cup of coffee. While it may be a splurge with some design quirks , it will impress connoisseurs with its brew quality. While the Bonavita did produce the best tasting cup of coffee, there are a few notable concerns that prevented it from being our top pick.
This seems like a simple task, but if you like to fill the reservoir with your coffee pot, you are in for a mess. Without the lid, the coffee pot spills water everywhere and you will quickly find any nearby items covered in water. We opted to use an extra cup rather than the coffee pot itself. Next we have the shower head and basket. The shower head is flimsy and mists over coffee grounds that lay in a filter basket. The basket is not attached to anything and becomes a nuisance after brewing. When you go to pour your first cup, you have to remove the filter basket and replace with the lid.
While we did find this to be annoying, we adapted quickly and found that it pressured us to maintain a cleaner coffee maker since you are forced to empty and clean the filter basket immediately after use. Overall, this is a pricy option but it did brew amazing coffee and was easy to clean and maintain. It also takes up a very small amount of space and has a portable aluminum coffee pot you can bring to your workspace for easy refills.
We recommend this option for large households or an office setting. While brewing a batch of coffee, we really enjoyed the sturdiness of this machine. The handle was the most comfortable to hold and carry. Although this coffee maker might not have the same sleek design as the high end Bonavita or Moccamaster, it still looks relatively streamlines and is quiet and compact, especially considering how much coffee it can produce. In the taste test, several participants noted how great the temperature of this coffee was.
If you prefer a piping hot cup of joe, give the Cuisinart a shot. Surprisingly, this was one of the only machines that actually notified you with a beep when the brew process was complete. We thought this was a nice touch on a well-thought-out product. There was a notable divide in the six coffee machines we tested. Three were built to appease coffee connoisseurs and the other three were built for those who just want a cup of morning joe.
The Technivorm — Moccamaster definitely belongs in the former category. This difference was not only evident in cost, but design and taste.
