I grew up during the fading years of broadcast radio drama and its transition to television late 40's-early 60's and was able to listen to some of the programs described in the book. It was both enjoyable and informative to read about the background of the western genre on radio, who "the stars" were, how the programs were produced, the sponsors, and the radio networks involved. We often While this is described as a reference book, I still got a great deal of enjoyment from reading through it.

We often think of these programs as being extremely primitive when compared to today's high-tech movies, and I guess they were; however it took well-thought out scripts, characters, and special effects read sounds to keep listeners glued to their vacuum tube powered radio consoles on a daily or weekly basis. There were a few facts that I found particularly interesting.
