Not so dramatic that it was completely unrealistic but more dramatic than I thought necessary for the story. I also didn't like that despite the fact that Lindsey's mom died when Lindsey was 12, Lindsey did not have appear to have any effects from her mother dying when she was so young.
I understand that was not where Hannon wan I would give this book 3.
I understand that was not where Hannon wanted the reader to focus but I wish they had had some mention of Lindsey caring about it, it's too big of a thing in a person's life to bring up but then have no mention of it later. Overall, I enjoyed the book and will likely read again.
Jan 26, Donna More Than a Review rated it really liked it. This inspirational novel explores going home and second chances. The author created such a sweet picture of two children bonding and developing a friendship. Twenty five years later those children have lost their innocence and have had their faith tested. Nate is a combat reporter on a much needed leave and goes back to the one place he called home as a child I always enjoy Irene Hannon's books. This one was no exception. I really enjoyed how she wrote the developers attitude.
It was neat to see how the touchstone article touched him. His response was very nice. We need more developers like him in real life! I have the second book in this series and I'm looking forward to visiting Starfish Bay again. Apr 27, Karina rated it really liked it Shelves: This wasn't a typical romance with a typical plot! It was a pleasant surprise.
I liked the fact that basically these protagonists were friends in childhood, and now meeting again as adults it develops into more. They do fight a bit, but the fight isn't about differences in their values and attitudes, it has more to do with their emotional baggage from the past. And upon thinking about the fights, both try to make amends. Mar 06, Jill Twigg rated it it was amazing. Loved the idea of touchstones in the story.
Very enjoyable read of good memories in a small town that brought both Nate and Lindsey back to figure things out, both having their own individual baggage to claim. The story of Jerrod was endearing as well as Nate being able to help the town with his vocation. Easy read and heartwarming. Sep 11, Anna Mcfadden rated it really liked it. After surviving a devastating tragedy combat report Nate Garrison returns to the only place that he knew was peaceful.
After 25 years h E runs into the only best friend he ever had Lindsey Collier, who return to help her father and to recover from her own list. As Nate feeling develope from friendship to love, he m u st find a way to convince Lindsey to trust love and God. Sep 23, H5angela rated it it was amazing. I thought it would be the usual inspirational romance But, I was pleasantly surprised.
Goes to show, don't judge a book by its cover. I really, really liked the book. It was especially brilliant for its genre and one could relate to the characters. Oct 20, Jan Mcleod rated it really liked it. Nate returned to Starfish Bay after 25 years hoping to find the only happiness is his life he had ever had. Starfish Bay is a small town, and he was hoping to find his childhood playmate; however, things have changed, and Lindsey is afraid to take another chance on men or love. It is an interesting story and well-written.
The characters come alive and faith's healing power is very evident. This was one of the best in this "love inspired romance" series I've read. It had a religious element without getting to "preachy," had an interesting story to tell, and was able to "fake me out" - at one point, I was sure the plot would go in one direction, but did not go as expected.
I don't get "fooled" very often, and I appreciated it. Jun 30, Chanover55 rated it liked it. Irene Gannon is a favorite author so I will always read one of her books. Two peoplemy who haven't seen each other in 25 years find themselves in the same town, both in the thrallS of healing from a tragedy.
God does work in both their lives. This book was wonderful! I loved the characters and the storyline! I am so excited to read the rest of this series and then I plan on reading her other books! Jun 06, Andrea rated it liked it Shelves: A bit too sad in parts for my taste. Basically the story of stranger comes to town in this case returns after 25 years , falls for widow with problems, helps town with their problems, overcomes his own problems, happily ever after.
I felt it kind of dragged at the end. May 31, Marianne rated it liked it. Good book with compelling characters and a storyline that made you want everything to turn out well for them! Jan 09, Phyllis Swain rated it really liked it. Nate Garrison returns to Starfish Bay, the only place that ever felt like hime and rekindles a friendship with childhood friend Lindsey Collier.
Jan 30, Rob rated it liked it Shelves: Very enjoyable read, would definitely recommend it.

But at least she'd get a tour tomorrow, when she met with Mark Stephens, the general manager. In the meantime, she might as well check in at the motel. And maybe she could find a slicker at the Mercantile. Given the ominous sky, chilly temperature and puddles of water on the inn's drive, she was going to need one.
She rounded the circle drive and accelerated back toward , groping in her purse for her lipstick. The repairs she'd made in San Francisco between plane changes had probably been washed away long ago. Keeping one hand on the wheel, she set the lipstick in her lap, adjusted the rearview mirror and checked out her appearance. The shadows under her eyes from the long trans-Pacific flight made her look older than her thirty-one years, and her blush and lipstick had faded.
A quick touch-up before Somehow she'd drifted toward the shoulder--and in another two seconds she was going to sideswipe a compact pickup truck that hadn't been there when she'd arrived. Heart hammering, she wrenched the wheel to the left Once clear of the truck, she jammed on the brakes, closed her eyes and took a slow, deep breath. That had been a close. A loud tap sounded on her window, a few inches from her ear, and she jerked again.
Clenching the wheel, she turned her head to find a tall, broad-shouldered man with dark brown hair, piercing blue eyes and an angry glare giving her the evil eye. Fresh mud was splattered across his sweatshirt and jeans. What she noticed most, though, was the ax in his hands. Like the kind in the stories about Paul Bunyan. When she remained frozen, he motioned for her to roll down her window. Double-checking that her car doors were locked, she pried her fingers off the wheel and cracked the window two inches.
His gaze flicked to the lipstick in her lap and he narrowed his eyes. I said I was sorry. Not the appreciative kind she was accustomed to from men, but one fraught with disapproval. Didn't you see the sign at the entrance? Who was this guy to question her? He didn't look as if he belonged here, either. He wasn't even close to the main job site, and his casual, rugged clothing didn't match the white attire of the painters she'd seen coming out the front door.
Maybe he was legit. You look the type. And put the lipstick away before you venture onto
