Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. The decisions in this film, as well, are dreadful! There were so many things these characters could of done to make this film make so much sense! But no, they took the wrong turns, pretty much at all the supposed right times. They make the stupidest decisions, when it's unbelievably obvious at points. Finally for the SyFy vibed' part of the film. There's parts where it looked like unfinished, horribly placed CGI tentacles, as well as gore, and blood.
They were horribly placed at times, other times looked unfinished, and fake, overall, just not a very good attempt at CGI. This film took so many wrong turns, and lacked so much it's just hard to follow. The CGI was literally like recycled SyFy material half the times, the film makes us sit through the characters making some of the stupidest decisions, in some of the most obvious of situations, leading to heavy disappointment, and even anger at some points. I wouldn't recommend this film unless you're into terrible films that, in fact, aren't so bad it's good..

There are a lot of parallels to WOOL. There are five parts, yes.
There is a strong female lead character, yes. Perhaps the most striking for me, however, was the first part. WOOL would not exist as a book without that intriguing first part with the Sheriff wishing to go outside -- and yet, Sheriff Holston is not a major character after that.
There is a similar aspect to SAND, but the story really gets cranked up in parts 2 and 3 before heading for a crescendo in part 4 and an epic conclusion in part 5. Like I said, I've ordered the paperback from Hugh directly and I cannot wait to have it in my hands and rediscover the futuristic world that Howey has created for us this time. If reading Hugh Howey is wrong, I don't want to be right. Tremendous accomplishment, Hugh, and thank you. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase.
The book is exceedingly well written, the world is rich and engaging. Indeed, the idea of the front range where I currently live buried in sand is an interesting concept. The mechanics of how the people survive in this wasteland are just But this book's underlying theme is the real story.
The characters past choices and the choices they make in the book are sometimes extremely difficult to swallow. Howey deliberately plays with the morality of his characters. There are few purely "good" characters major characters anyway , but the bad characters are just that, evil with no redeeming traits.
This led to me to question whether or not the "bad" were really as bad as they were seen by the protagonists. Very little information is given on the antagonist faction. While some of the characters are partially? Even after they begin to redeem themselves as selfless people capable of taking care of others and each other, the conclusion of the story drives home how shortsighted and selfish they all are one in particular. The book definitely sticks with you.
Since finishing it, I've spent a lot of time mulling over what I did and did not like about the book. Ultimately, I think that I loved the world and the concept, but I just can't be happy with a book in which I disagree with so many of the characters choices. So, can I lower the rating of a story because I don't agree with the characters? Or do I acknowledge that this was deliberate by Hugh Howey, and masterfully done?
So I compromised at 4 stars. Howey can be happy with that. One person found this helpful. See all 1, reviews.
