I liked this novella as a whole, but in truth I felt like I landed in the middle of a larger story that I had no idea about. It left me floudering a little. The writing style also included many, many, short and one word sentences.
It gave a breathless, fast feel - which I assume was intended as there was lots of action and knife play. I think, for me, the plot and story moved along way too quickly to absorb everything properly. I know this is a series spin off and the blub did say it could be read as a stand alone, but I felt I was missing - something I do intend to read more from this author.

One person found this helpful. One of my favourite Authors, I felt this story was different to Jackson's normal style. The story was to short, it finished quickly. The characters were easy to love. Also alot of things were left unanswered in the story. There were so many other possibilities the plot could have taken. Altogether it was an ok read. The title could just as rightly be " To Survive A Wife" as I half expected her to give him real injury for deserting her.
What a bundle of fury she turned out to be- and not just to her husband!!
Enjoyed this book and recommend it. See all 3 reviews. Most helpful customer reviews on Amazon. Logan's Legends Book 1 A Novella. Jackson's new series "Logan's Legends" and was my first experience with her writing. It's basically about a woman who is still mourning the death of her husband, only to discover that he's not dead at all I was honestly a little leery of starting this series when I saw it was about guards from the "Revelry's Tempest" which is another of this author's series.
However, I've been wanting to read one of her books for a while now and since I love the name Logan I should, since I named my son that I thought I'd give this novella a try. And though it looks like Logan is a crossover character that has been introduced before, I'm not sure if Nicolina or Gareth have been and didn't feel like I was missing anything where they or their relationship are concerned. I have to admit to being somewhat confused when I read the reviews right now since nearly all of them that mention the hero are calling him Jared, but his name is actually Gareth.
It looks like mine is only the second "Verified" purchase though, so I'm guessing the other reviewers read advanced reader copies ARCs and that the hero's name was changed before publication.
As to the story itself, I thought it was extremely well written and a pure pleasure to read. I loved Nicolina who was so strong, but whose love for her husband makes her vulnerable. Then there was Gareth who's a bit of a tortured soul and a man who admits his mistakes. There was never any doubt however that these two loved and needed each other to heal, and that together they could handle anything life threw their way. On a whole this story had pretty much everything that I look for in a romance including passion, plenty of action, and tons of emotion.
There was a lot of anger on Nicolina's part which I could completely understand, and the guilt Gareth carried was just heartbreaking. And while I loved them both as individuals, I absolutely adored them as a couple. Their love practically jumped off the pages and was truly beautiful to behold. The only thing that kept this from being perfect was the little fact that Nicolina's job as a governess seemed to be forgotten about. One moment she's with her charges, the next she has a day off, and then nothing. That just seemed a little odd, and I would have also liked more resolution regarding her wastrel of a brother.
Overall it was a great read though and one I'd recommend! September , London, England Kindle Locations: Nicolina Callison has grieved for more than a year the loss of her husband in the Napoleonic wars. She was deeply in love with Gareth and wanted to give up. Being a strong-willed woman, though still grieving for her husband, Nicolina survived her loss and made a move with her wastrel brother to London where she eventually found employment as a governess.
It was a great surprise to her one day when she recognized a man entering a gaming establishment. It was her husband Gareth. He was alive, appeared well, and obvious to Nicolina, had deserted her. She was encompassed by total rage. KJ Jackson has managed to once again, create an emotionally gripping tale of two souls, who obviously love one another, but need to put aside the fears each one of them has, and share unanswered questions with one another.
