As one of your greatest fans I just want to say, "You're simply the best! The War Rooms themselves are a fascinating insight into WW2 and government organization of the day, but the Churchill Museum contained within the war rooms is also a brilliant insight into the man that was Winston Churchill.
Being from the other side of the world an born in , my knowledge of the man himself was very limited. This exhibition was thorough, interesting, impressive and complete.
My kids 9 and 12 at the time, got a great deal out of the war rooms, my wife and I more out of the museum! There literally is something for everyone!
To see the map room and where Churchill and his cabinet lived, dined and planned for Britains military advancement is stunning. If you go on a cold winter day remember that you may be waiting on a long line to get in and when you finally arrive inside the war rooms are not heated, much like it was during the war, cold and damp. This really is a treat not to be missed, right under your feet beneath the hallowed pavements of Whitehall.
I love history and to be in a place where major decisions were made in WWII was fascinating. The interactive presentations in a new area are just fantastic and you could spend a day just in that area trying to read and view all that is on offer. A place for history buffs NOT to miss. Next stop - the summer of The Icons were called forth to do a Green Monkey Records reunion show. The Icons rocked the house. It was just too good. What was left to do? Bake the multi-track tapes from the Masters of Disaster. Make their second record? They got Amy Denio to play squeezebox and saxophone.
They got Jeff Kelly of the PJs to play organ on songs. They got Glen Slater of The Walkabouts to play organ on songs. Destiny is the fruit of their new calling. But that is just the beginning. The Icons will not be denied twice. This time The Icons are bigger and better and prettier than ever.
