They were the cousins of Lorenzo de' Medici "Lorenzo il Magnifico" , who was effectively the ruler of Florence, and after their father's early death had been his wards.
The bottom of the painting was probably at about the viewer's eye-level, so rather higher than it is hung today. In the same room was Botticelli's Pallas and the Centaur , and also a large tondo with the Virgin and Child. The tondo is now unidentified, but is a type of painting especially associated with Botticelli. This was given the highest value of the three paintings, at lire. A further inventory of records that the Primavera had a large white frame. In the first edition of his Life of Botticelli , published in , Giorgio Vasari said that he had seen this painting, and the Birth of Venus , hanging in the Medici country Villa di Castello.
Before the inventory was known it was usually believed that both paintings were made for the villa, probably soon after it was acquired in , either commissioned by Lorenzo di Pierfrancesco or perhaps given to him by his older cousin and guardian Lorenzo de' Medici.

An easy access, friendly staffs but the breakfast is not so good!! It could be that the mattresses on the beds were new, but they felt decidedly hard for my wife and myself, and the pillows were less-than welcoming at the end of a for us busy day of sight-seeing. Also, compared to other Italian hotels, the breakfast selection was minimal, with small squares of omelette as apparently the only hot food, no toaster available, and no automated coffee-making facilities, bringing the choice down to thick-and-strong - or buy your own instant which we did.
In the bedrooms, the walls seemed extremely thin, and conversations next door could be clearly heard, especially at night. The fact that the best restaurant in town was right next door! It's an amusing experience to be wakened at 8am every morning by the bells of the church next door ringing out Ave Maria also the walls are not soundproofed so can hear the person in the next room coughing. Although there is a kettle and cups in the room nothing else is provided so take your own tea-bags etc with you.

We were shown to a room which smelt of stale tobacco and was really tiny and a bit grubby - no balcony either as promised. After a quick discussion and checking our reservation we went back down to reception and politely explained this was not what we had anticipated or paid for.
